condoms are a must if you are having sex with a number of partners. my wife and i have been married for 6 years now and have been together 10 years. we do not use condoms at all. she is on the birth control pill.
Anyway, I only use a condom if whoever i'm with isn't on an effective birth control method (the pill, implant, the shot etc).
I wouldn't be too worried personally, chances of catching a serious std are statistically very low, and if you have regular sex with your partner just get tested together, they will get tested with you if they respect you.
@Chris180Z Actually it's something like 1 in 3 women have an active STD at any given time. So the chances are VERY HIGH! Get your facts straight before you go having sex and spreading around diseases!
@kicesie one in three have an active STD? Where do you get these statistics from? It depends on the area/country. It also depends on how regularly you are having sex with an individual for you to judge on the chances of catching whatever venereal disease they may have. I do appreciate the information you do give though, so please don't take this message with negativity or hypocrisy.
@kicesie hi kicesie iv only had sex once in my life and i used a condom but when i hear about this i ask my self should i go get tested just to see i mean i have received alot of oral sex and all so idk how to ask my partner to get tested its not that I'm to mature its that i don't want her to think I'm telling her she is dirty :S
@Chris180Z The estimation for infection by the HPV virus by itself is somewhere above the neighborhood of 90%... most without symptoms and most transmitted through skin to skin contact without the presense of warts. As Kicesie said, condoms are not going to protect you against skin to skin contact. Oh yeah... and testing is out because without symptoms most strains of sexually transmitted HPV can't be tested for, especially low-risk HPV types that cause visible symptoms.
@bulltex95 The only 'std' you could have is herpes, often known as a cold sore. If you have cold sores, they can be transmitted to the genitals during oral sex. sorry if you've answered this question already but- how do you get an STD in the first place? Like if 2 teens have sex, how would one of them get an STD? and can you get an STD from yourself? like from autofellatio or leaving semen on yourself? thanks
@salemhodson Also, most people think that since a woman only ovulates once a month (and some do so more than once a month) then there is only one day that she can get pregnant out of the month. Semen stays alive in the vagina for 3 days and the egg stays alive for up to 48 hours. So you're talking about with one act of cumming inside, she could get pregnant for something like 7-8 days? (someone correct me if my math is off). That's why fertility awareness has a 25% failure rate!
@salemhodson Totally... most people I know who ended up with a kid thought they could go just that 'one time' without.... and pulling out even has a typical use failure rate of 27%!!!!! That's crazy high! And with PERFECT use it's still a 4% failure rate. So condoms every single time people! Or hormonal birth control with perfect use for the ladies. @fhooy0402 Because normally at that point they are in a relationship with one person and faithful and many have been tested. Still, 30 year olds, 60 years olds... STDs don't discriminate against age.
@Dragalien You start by showing that you've been checked yourself and asking him to offer you the same courtesy. There are awesome new ways of doing this like qpid(dot)me and so forth. But just having an honest conversation where you say 'It's not about trusting you it's simply a rule I have because I respect my body.'
@coolcharles87 Then no, you can't. However, you CAN have cold sores (which are actually herpes sores) that could be transfered to the genitals through oral sex). So if you have an outbreak, be sure to use protection!!! (you can transmit herpes {even if it's a cold sore} even when there isn't a breakout, fyi). That's all I can really think of.
And the girl in this couple should get Gardasil because if she ever has sex with someone who isn't a virgin, even if a condom is used could get HPV!

Hickeys causing cancer? Never heard that one, then again, never studied it. They are solely broken blood vessels... so I don't see the logic there. Again, I'm not an authority on something like cancer, so search research articles to find out.
Well some of the illnesses called 'STDs' can be transmitted other ways. As these videos say, through touch... so herpes/cold-sores for instance can be transmitted easily. 80% of the US population has it, including children.
Then other things like HIV and hepatitis can be received through bodily fluids. If someone with it gets their blood into an opening in your skin, mouth, etc, you can get it.
So yes, one can. But if they aren't a drug user or working in a hospital, it's unlikely.
that was the first thing and my number one priority is my health, I have been checked blood test and all.. I am clear, I keep my health checked, to see the doctor once a year.
That's great. Just remember that if you're having sex with random partners (even if you're using protection) you're supposed to have a full STD screening every 3 months. Just FYI for everyone.
I don't believe in condoms, because there are certain chemicals that are that product. I do and make it my number one Priority to get check every 3 months. My health is number one..
You say that herpes can be transmited through skin to skin contact. Well i don't have it (bless the lord for that one), but a huge percentage of the worlds population do, and are these people doomed to never tutch, like never kiss or have intercourse with an other person in their lifetime, in risk of transmiting it to them? I mean who wants to knowingly transmit a std to the love of their life? Is there anything these people can do about it, or do they have to live a life of celibacy?
There are ways to reduce chances of transmission. And without any breakout ever, you can still have the virus in your system. Something like 80% of people have it in their system. But talking to your doctor, you can figure out a way to avoid transmission!
Time for realism/paranoia: just because the other person has medical papers showing no stds, doesn't mean that person did not have sex with some one after the doctor visit. Ex: person goes to doctor to have inspection and blood drawn etc., has sex with the reseptionist and a week later test results come in and everything ok. Well receptionist had std and your partner had additional sex with night club incounter and then shows you papers....
Bravo! I think its fantastic that your taking the time to look up this infomation and then sharing it with teens one of the best ways to, via Youtube. I didn't know they were changing it to STI's from STD's which should be fun to say. lol I don't care what people thing this infomation is important and I'm subscribing and please keep it up.
What if I'm a virgin but my partner has had sex before, but only with another virgin. Should we still get tested, and how can we get tested without our parents knowing?
It could be that the person their partner had sex with was the one lying about being a virgin. It's one thing to trust your partner, it's another thing to trust your life to your partner's ex. Testing is always the best way, especially since most youth can get tested for free and totally confidential!
Could be pregnancy.... could just be that she hasn't had it for long enough that it's become really regular. If pregnancy is possible, test asap and/or see a doctor!
well i know you dont read your inbox but i sent you a message about the whole sexualy active thing and i was molested as a child and that is a reason why i have to get checked for it in about a week and i also wanted to know...um...does it hurt when you get...you know...check out...?
I believe they lube one finger and feel around only 1 to 1 1/2 inches inside. Ask them exactly what's going on before they do it. A good doctor will explain everything before they do it so you're prepared.
like for what ever im buying, being it pencils, or shampoo, or a chocolate bar. if i get stared at, i feel like their in my business and i really dont like it :| thats just me tho iddiots567
iddiots567 "iam kida young but iam no 10-11 iam 15.. I no that iam not ready for sex so i dont relly have to worry about that. Bc i will die of imbrassment if i walk in walmart nd but condoms." i am 16 and i would walk into a walmart and buy the condoms, the only thing im worried about is the looks i would get. i would have no problem pickin them up in a minimart, because thers not many ppl that can stare u down like your crazy or anything.i just personaly dont lik ppl starin at me 4 anyreason
Does STD get tranfered through bodily fluids like saliva? How and when should we ask our "partners" to get tested (including ourselves)? Should we ask right after relationship begins or right before we have the idea of having sex?
P.S. this is just pure questions. I don't have girlfriend before.
iam kida young but iam no 10-11 iam 15.. I no that iam not ready for sex so i dont relly have to worry about that. Bc i will die of imbrassment if i walk in walmart nd but condoms.
The best way to prevent it is to buy your old boy (penis) a bio hazard suit, buy him some gloves as well. If the birds fanny has teeth then seal of the area and contact the government.
Its obviously important to use a condom when we have sex to prevent stds or pregnency, but how safe are we really? .... are we 100% safe everytime we have sex either to prevent stds that are transmited by the sex fluids or pregnency if we use a condom?
Standard use makes condoms effective 60 some percent of the time. But if you use them ideally/perfectly/correctly then it's upwards of 90 some percent. Nothing but abstinence keeps you 100% safe, and by abstinence I mean not even touching someone's genitals or having yours touched.
Stds scare the shit out of me!!! However sex ed was one of my best subjects in high school, AND i'm a biology major. I'm taking advantage of haveing a no STDS as long as I can. Hopefully forever!!!!:D
Cold sores ARE one of the two herpes viruses! So yes.... and over 80% of the population has it.... so it's pretty guaranteed you'll get it at some point in your life.
I really want to help you with getting the word out. It took me a while to watch this video BECAUSE: It says "STDs" in the title. And I think, "Oh, that doesn't sound like fun. I'll just not watch that." Despite my initial reaction to the title, this is one of your most important, infomative, valuable and worthwhile videos, for me personally. Make the title sound more fun and less like a chore, and you will get many many more views.
You can get an STD without having sex. For most sexually transmitted diseases, sex is the Most Common way to get the disease, however it is not the only way. Another common way get an STD is through genital to genital contact, or from oral or anal, and there is a small chance that you can pick one up from something else.
STDs are not created by sex: they have to be caught from somebody who caught it from somebody else. Even if you are virgins, you still both need to get tested, because you might have picked it up from something other than sex. If you are both Tested and neither of you have an STDs, then you will not get an STD on your first time.
These are really basic questions, and so I really suggest that you do a lot more research, and also talk to a health care professional of some kind, because you could miss something essential. So you are actually being really intelligent by watching this. I am learning from this video just like you. I am not an expert, but I am getting a biology degree, and so i know a lot about diseases.
First off, having just discovered your series, you do a fantastic job of making things clear for the unsure. Now, As far as herpes goes. If you have a partner that knows they have it, aside from the "weak tea" protection of a condom, are there any real options? Aside from abstinence, which we've both decided against?
It's what I hope will one day be my job. I'm still in school. So yes on the research.... I kinda have too.... and it helps that it's my passion (understanding human sexuality).
I think people would like to know how easy and confidentially you can order a complete test online and how that works... There are several sites that come up when you search keywords "std testing" .... pick a service and pay the fee (last time for me was $230.00) for the whole round and get an order emailed to you, which you carry into a lab of your choice (Lab Corp ... Quest)... the sample is taken, results are emailed within 3 days and you never have to reveal your name.
hi kicesie just wan to ask something if d doctor give u medicine the "flagyl" it's mean i have a std? i went to the doctor for some check up & d result said they found some bacteriaso i have to take this medicine. just curious....thnx.
Good job Kicesie, great job! People grow up so fast now a days. It is great to see some of the younger generation taking this subject seriously. Bravo and keep up the awesome job!
do you do when you know you had an std, you get it cured, you mention it to your parnter to get checked and she goes to the doctor and it shows that she didn't catch the std. I don't even feel like havin sex with her bcuz im scared that she does have it and i don't wanna take the chance and have sex with her again and then i get the std back. I don't understand how she couldn't of got it.
HeY wanted to first off say that your videos are awesome and we need more people like you to talk about issues like this because they are very important.. But my question is what
hahaha, i like how she wears the glasses for the std episode. it's like when mtv airs their sex health or public service shows...at 3am when nobody's watching.
I think that you are an insperation to all teens and your right..they don't teach any oh this at school... and you sound so comfordent... great job....and i am from Australia...but we got education about sex in grade 5... thanks for telling me about STD's... you are a total inperation...
This is a great series, do you have any information on cold sores and oral sex. Can having oral sex cause genital herpes? I have received conflicting information from various nurses Cheers great work spreading knowledge!
Thanks for getting some important information out there. One correction though--the types of HPV that cause genital warts are not the same types that cause cervical cancer, so your suggestion that one can lead to the other is incorrect.
That's not what many doctors and my research has said.... but I suggest viewers look this up and ask their doctors to be sure, if it's important to them!!!
hi,,what happen to a man that eating the sex organ of a women and he is not pretty sure about the girl,,the girl is a prostitute and possibly she has that std,so what happen to a man doing that?is there any infection will happen to his mouth?
i am so curious about it because my friends are doing that if they get a prostitute,
and i know that prostitutes are the std carrier right?so what will happen to their mouths?is there a infectious reaction will happen to their mouths?
Your mouth will be fine but I can't say for sure. Go get a blood test if you are worried. I'd suggest "your friends" don't visit prostitutes in the first place.
I guess as you said the safest sex is to actually get to know a person first with tests, and even so still use condoms, having one night stands is still to risky even with condoms.
What I have always wondered is, what if only the partner gives you oral sex and ends there, if there is like a std or something that could transmit through saliva to genitals.
MOST STDs can be transmitted via oral sex. It's not AS common, but can most certainly happen. Use flavored condoms or dental dams for oral sex if the other person hasn't been tested in the last 6 months and had no other partners since being tested negative at least 6 months ago.
According to your answer to my 2nd question. I understand that once you catch the virus, you will carry it and transfer to every future sexpartner you have unless protected with a condom. Is this correct?
It's *possible*, yes. In fact it's possible to spread even with a condom because a condom only covers the shaft (and obviously the head) the of the penis and so there is still skin to skin contact and the virus is spread that way. The testicles can carry the virus, etc... and on a woman the virus can spread even onto her thighs (in rare cases).
The key here is to get tested regularly (paps if your a girl, testicle self-exams if you're a guy) for abnormal cells. And catch anything early.
Have you come across any research, or had a chance to read about these tests and such done on herpes 1 and 2. Not really cures but a way of stopping it from spreading or hindering it with medication. just curious what your thoughts are on that. iv read that the research needs more support and because its not one that will kill you, usually, that its not a main subject for research.
Pharamasutical companies do research all the time because there is HUGE money in the treatment of it... in finding something to stop further outbreaks... to reduce the chance of it spreading, etc
Kicesie, okay, I know that you don't feel totally comfortable with viewers that are younger(I'm 16), but I've found that watching your videos and listening to your opinions has helped un-warp my views on sex and healthy relationships. You are wonderful! It's been a real help to find you.
KICESIE you should get paid for this i would much rather listen to you then my teachers their old and creepy. and your young and you understand what its like. request to show this in schools. more people would listen
This is some good education. Children need to learn this stuff these days.

Great vid
88Ypsilon 2 years ago
There are ways to reduce chances of transmission. And without any breakout ever, you can still have the virus in your system. Something like 80% of people have it in their system. But talking to your doctor, you can figure out a way to avoid transmission!

Time for realism/paranoia: just because the other person has medical papers showing no stds, doesn't mean that person did not have sex with some one after the doctor visit. Ex: person goes to doctor to have inspection and blood drawn etc., has sex with the reseptionist and a week later test results come in and everything ok. Well receptionist had std and your partner had additional sex with night club incounter and then shows you papers....
contributor34 2 years ago

If myself and a female have unprotected sex once and do not acquire STD's does that mean we wont get STD's from each other?
QuinnC92 3 years ago
What if I'm a virgin but my partner has had sex before, but only with another virgin. Should we still get tested, and how can we get tested without our parents knowing?
SpiffyMcSnazzy 3 years ago
All testing is private (even from parents). Best bet is to go to a free clinic. (county health dept.... planned parenthood, etc)
kicesie 3 years ago
unless shes lieing she wont have std's, its the same with me
zulu650 3 years ago
It could be that the person their partner had sex with was the one lying about being a virgin. It's one thing to trust your partner, it's another thing to trust your life to your partner's ex. Testing is always the best way, especially since most youth can get tested for free and totally confidential!

tootsiegal620 3 years ago
If you haven't been sexually active at all, I don't think you can get it. Get immunized against HPV. It'll go a long way toward keeping you safe.
(cervical cancer isn't genetic, it comes from certain strains of HPV {genital warts})

well i know you dont read your inbox but i sent you a message about the whole sexualy active thing and i was molested as a child and that is a reason why i have to get checked for it in about a week and i also wanted to know...um...does it hurt when you get...you know...check out...?

Does STD get tranfered through bodily fluids like saliva? How and when should we ask our "partners" to get tested (including ourselves)? Should we ask right after relationship begins or right before we have the idea of having sex?

The best way to prevent it is to buy your old boy (penis) a bio hazard suit, buy him some gloves as well. If the birds fanny has teeth then seal of the area and contact the government.
ajbarnstormer 3 years ago
Its obviously important to use a condom when we have sex to prevent stds or pregnency, but how safe are we really? .... are we 100% safe everytime we have sex either to prevent stds that are transmited by the sex fluids or pregnency if we use a condom?
sexxyybb 3 years ago
GOOD QUESTION
xeniahustla 3 years ago
Standard use makes condoms effective 60 some percent of the time. But if you use them ideally/perfectly/correctly then it's upwards of 90 some percent. Nothing but abstinence keeps you 100% safe, and by abstinence I mean not even touching someone's genitals or having yours touched.

Wait you can get herpes from cold sores? Does that mean when you get a cold sore you have herpes?
Forresthaven 3 years ago
Cold sores ARE one of the two herpes viruses! So yes.... and over 80% of the population has it.... so it's pretty guaranteed you'll get it at some point in your life.

I really want to help you with getting the word out. It took me a while to watch this video BECAUSE: It says "STDs" in the title. And I think, "Oh, that doesn't sound like fun. I'll just not watch that." Despite my initial reaction to the title, this is one of your most important, infomative, valuable and worthwhile videos, for me personally. Make the title sound more fun and less like a chore, and you will get many many more views.

Question, can you have/get a STD with out haveing sex? Also if both partners are virgins and dont have a STD, can you get a STD on your frist time?
soranzo4 3 years ago
You can get an STD without having sex. For most sexually transmitted diseases, sex is the Most Common way to get the disease, however it is not the only way. Another common way get an STD is through genital to genital contact, or from oral or anal, and there is a small chance that you can pick one up from something else.
luckyodeler 3 years ago
STDs are not created by sex: they have to be caught from somebody who caught it from somebody else. Even if you are virgins, you still both need to get tested, because you might have picked it up from something other than sex. If you are both Tested and neither of you have an STDs, then you will not get an STD on your first time.
luckyodeler 3 years ago
These are really basic questions, and so I really suggest that you do a lot more research, and also talk to a health care professional of some kind, because you could miss something essential. So you are actually being really intelligent by watching this. I am learning from this video just like you. I am not an expert, but I am getting a biology degree, and so i know a lot about diseases.
luckyodeler 3 years ago
First off, having just discovered your series, you do a fantastic job of making things clear for the unsure. Now, As far as herpes goes. If you have a partner that knows they have it, aside from the "weak tea" protection of a condom, are there any real options? Aside from abstinence, which we've both decided against?
chibichan1701 3 years ago

kicesie 3 years ago
I think people would like to know how easy and confidentially you can order a complete test online and how that works... There are several sites that come up when you search keywords "std testing" .... pick a service and pay the fee (last time for me was $230.00) for the whole round and get an order emailed to you, which you carry into a lab of your choice (Lab Corp ... Quest)... the sample is taken, results are emailed within 3 days and you never have to reveal your name.
Randolino 3 years ago
would you suggest we also get checked even when a person is a virgin? and if neither partner has any stds, does that mean neither would get stds?
BioPhantasm 3 years ago
Depends on your definition of virginity. If there has been genital contact with any other partner, your best bet is to get checked.
kicesie 3 years ago
I'm so thankful for this video. I'm definately getting tested and making sure my partners are tested.

do you do when you know you had an std, you get it cured, you mention it to your parnter to get checked and she goes to the doctor and it shows that she didn't catch the std. I don't even feel like havin sex with her bcuz im scared that she does have it and i don't wanna take the chance and have sex with her again and then i get the std back. I don't understand how she couldn't of got it.

can you have any stds er anything before you have sex in any form even before kiss lik could be born wit one or could it just happen??
peterg30 3 years ago
Well if the mother has it you can be born with certain ones. But they are pretty much always monitored and treated in the infant.
As for any other way, you must have genital contact to contract an STD (or be stuck with an infected needle {IV drug users}), etc.

Thanks for getting some important information out there. One correction though--the types of HPV that cause genital warts are not the same types that cause cervical cancer, so your suggestion that one can lead to the other is incorrect.

kolaugh is correct. there is NO visible sign of HPV on a guy which is the type that give a woman cancer! HPV also causes mouth cancer!

hi,,what happen to a man that eating the sex organ of a women and he is not pretty sure about the girl,,the girl is a prostitute and possibly she has that std,so what happen to a man doing that?is there any infection will happen to his mouth?
i am so curious about it because my friends are doing that if they get a prostitute,
and i know that prostitutes are the std carrier right?so what will happen to their mouths?is there a infectious reaction will happen to their mouths?
thanks,,
jayddct07 3 years ago
Your mouth will be fine but I can't say for sure. Go get a blood test if you are worried. I'd suggest "your friends" don't visit prostitutes in the first place.
jprithvi 3 years ago
You can most certainly get an STD in the mouth.... and when it gets bad, it's really sick. So use condoms and/or dental dams, even for oral.
kicesie 3 years ago
I guess as you said the safest sex is to actually get to know a person first with tests, and even so still use condoms, having one night stands is still to risky even with condoms.
What I have always wondered is, what if only the partner gives you oral sex and ends there, if there is like a std or something that could transmit through saliva to genitals.
uzimachi1 3 years ago
MOST STDs can be transmitted via oral sex. It's not AS common, but can most certainly happen. Use flavored condoms or dental dams for oral sex if the other person hasn't been tested in the last 6 months and had no other partners since being tested negative at least 6 months ago.
kicesie 3 years ago
Can you get a std from a sex toy? like, if some one had worts, could they pass it on throw the toy? i dont use toys, i was just wondering

yes. Toys should always be cleaned between partners... or some sort of protective barrier used between you and the toy.

jougt20096 3 years ago
According to your answer to my 2nd question. I understand that once you catch the virus, you will carry it and transfer to every future sexpartner you have unless protected with a condom. Is this correct?
agork 3 years ago
It's *possible*, yes. In fact it's possible to spread even with a condom because a condom only covers the shaft (and obviously the head) the of the penis and so there is still skin to skin contact and the virus is spread that way. The testicles can carry the virus, etc... and on a woman the virus can spread even onto her thighs (in rare cases).
The key here is to get tested regularly (paps if your a girl, testicle self-exams if you're a guy) for abnormal cells. And catch anything early.
kicesie 3 years ago
My questions will be about HPV.
#1 Can HPV be transmitted through oral sex alone
#2 Is it possible to kill HPV and not just the Warts
You are good at explaining this - thanks
agork 3 years ago
While I am NOT a medical professional, the research I've seen has revealed that:
1: Absolutely yes you can get it through oral sex
2: No. The virus is around forever, though you may never have another outbreak of warts.
kicesie 3 years ago
Have you come across any research, or had a chance to read about these tests and such done on herpes 1 and 2. Not really cures but a way of stopping it from spreading or hindering it with medication. just curious what your thoughts are on that. iv read that the research needs more support and because its not one that will kill you, usually, that its not a main subject for research.
Pogie12x12 3 years ago
Pharamasutical companies do research all the time because there is HUGE money in the treatment of it... in finding something to stop further outbreaks... to reduce the chance of it spreading, etc
kicesie 3 years ago
some people believe stds are a government conspiracy to get people to buy condoms.
