Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
TRUE:The dog I had when Meddle was released sang the 1st time this song came up;he'd sing it every time. With no urging,he also then sang other Floyd tunes,in a good along-with-the-tune way. When Bowie's Diamond Dogs album hit,he sang to the Diamond Dogs cut immediately&then to other Bowie songs too. It got to the point that, arriving home after a LATE night,I had to put a "champagne music" station on the radio to get decent rest,or the dog's singing would wake me when Floyd or Bowie came on.
This is Pink Floyd's tribute to the blues style of music. Every great artist makes a blues cover to pay tribute to the great genre that inspired today's music, and Pink Floyd is certainly no exception.
the first day i bought meddle i played it loud in my room and by my side there was my dog....his expression were sooo funny lol.....sadly, he died a week later :(
"Wish You Were Here" and "Meddle" are really the only PF albums I listen to with any regularity any more (I've been a fan since the early 80s). "Fearless" is one of my top 5 PF songs.
Gotta disagree with you, it's a great blues tune. The dog enhances the feel of the song. To boot, it was featured in the great movie, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead"
I was surprised when I first heard this song. My dad has this album on vinyl. A great listen, I dont think meddle geats as much recognization as it should either.
I love it more because of the fact it receives little recognition. It seems most folks are hung up on Dark Side and the Wall, but this album and Animals are really incredible in their own right.
@feydakin69 I Know... It was just the fact that is was an animal singing it thats all, and yeah you're right, it wouldnt really fit into it. Its even a different music style to that in Animals, so it wouldnt really sound right. It deserves to be in Meddle, because its more of a blues song, not progressive, but its still a good idea to make a dog sing along.
God knows what they were taking when they recorded this! This is Steve Marriots dog SEAMUS which was trained to howl when a blues note was struck..Amusing throwaway..

they said this was one of their lowest recognized albums. I love this album echoes, a pillow of winds, fearless those are classic pink floyd albums.

i fink dat seamus should of gone on floyds album 'animals' ;-)
PINKFLOYDMAD 3 years ago 4
not really.. because animals is all about society and this is just a tune about a dog. it fits meddle's style.
steeeeeeeeeveee 3 years ago 2
@PINKFLOYDMAD I see the fun in that idea, but in truth, Seamus is waaay to light for Animals. Animals can be quite dark.

The overuse of the dog barking sound effect is the most likely cause.
