I don't know why we had to play the race card in the presidential election in the first place. Obviously he is the first person of a different color (other than white) to be elected. Here is what I do not quite understand. If a white person ran for president of Kenya and lost (which I am sure he would by a landslide), and the Kenyan people said they did not feel it appropriate for a white person to lead their country, would we say that they are full of "hate" and racist? How come a double standard applies to Americans? That is really a question that needs answering.
I think this doesn't compare to the US for at least two reasons: 1) only about 1% of the population in Kenya is european, so whites are not as large a minority there as blacks are in the US, 2) Kenya was colonized by europeans, so a white president might bring back memories of colonization. Likewise, given the history of the US, claiming that a black person is inappropriate to lead the country might bring back memories of racial segregation and I think that might be what's happening.

I don't know why we had to play the race card in the presidential election in the first place. Obviously he is the first person of a different color (other than white) to be elected. If a white person ran for president of Kenya and lost (which I am sure he would by a landslide), and the Kenyan people said they did not feel it appropriate for a white person to lead their country, would we say that they are full of "hate" and racist? I think this doesn't compare to the US for at least two reasons: 1) only about 1% of the population in Kenya is european, so whites are not as large a minority there as blacks are in the US, 2) Kenya was colonized by europeans, so a white president might bring back memories of colonization. Likewise, given the history of the US, claiming that a black person is inappropriate to lead the country might bring back memories of racial segregation and I think that might be what's happening.
