like hbadra so well said, this docu- mentary set some doubts on the 'morals ' and purity of this fighting art, although the holy Buddha is there involved! Japanese invasion to China during WW II was not that friendly; lot of cruelty was involved, maybe this explains the tone..
also foreigners semm not 2 b 'wellcome', heh. as one of those 'tall foreign gyus' got that impression. vital point techniques are so powerfull that they should NOT be shown publicly -like done in this video!!
@ccthedragon the jap karate masters are a bunch of clowns, worhshipped by zombie like students and useless at fighting.Pressure points dont work in the first place.
I am a big believer in martial arts diversity, and promoting the understanding of different fighting styles. But, there appears to be something that just doesn't sit right with me after watching this documentary. Maybe it's the cult-like worshiping of it's founder, or the right-wing political association, or the way the Manji is worn, or simply the intermixing of religious devotion and martial arts...
I have taken Shorinji Kempo here in the states and as it was explained to me that it was created during the japanese occupation when martial arts training was illegal. so to get around this it was formed as a religion / meditation.
the manji use by kempo is different bay the swastika use by the nazi. the manji by kempo is scroll to the wright, and the swastika use by the nazi scroll to the left. it also had a different meaning. the manji means love and compasion, but the swastika means power or strenght. the swastika symbol use by the nazi are also use by genkhis khan when they go to war.
The swastica was an ancient Indian symbol before it was used by the Nazis. Shorinji Kempo is built on Buddhist ideology, where the symbol is known as a Manji. It represents the ideal harmoney between love and intellect. When facing left, it represents love and mercy, and when facing right, it represents strength and intelligence. The Nazis took the right facing manji and rotated it 45 degrees to create the swastica. It is NOT the same thing as a manji and Shorinji Kempo is NOT a racist society
I'm from Taika Oyata's tradition, and was taught these things many years ago. You do have to be quite skilled to use them in real, but they can and do work. I'm excited to see them taught openly like this in a video from another non-Okinawan tradition.
How much does this thing cost? it seems like a XXL Martial Practise Machine I might buy one for my wing chun home training This is also a new form of martial arts home training. Try to search for martial arm in any engine to find it!
did someone listen carefully to the shiatsu teacher and the way he speaks of foreigners, like as if we are a threat? being a german, with knowing about our history i have to say, that the manji as their symbol fits.
The only reason that he referred to foreigners in his techniques is that in general, westerners are bigger than the Japanese, so are more difficult to do the techniques on. He did not mean 'foreigners' in a disrespectful way, he only said it to show that although westerners can be more difficult to apply the techniques to, it is still possible.
As for the manji, it was a Buddhist (and various other religions') symbol long before your predecessors perverted it. It means peace and compassion.
What I always like about these sorts of martial arts (compared to MMA), is the respect they all have for eachother. I think that should be one of the cornerstones of a good and decent martial arts, something MMA can learn a great deal from I think.
thats a bit messed up...u shouldnt demonstrate techniques like that on your students, especially to the point of knocking them out, with or without injury.
Not really. These are all advanced students learning advanced techniques. Its not much different than police training where you are pepper sprayed on purpose.
I don`t mean any disrespect towards MMA or it`s proponents but I can, from experience, say that, for most, their approach is based more on stamina and aggresion than it is on high level skill. The throws, striking, and jointlocks they use are more of the "quick and strong" than precise and skillfull. Not to say it doesn`t work it just doesn`t train some of the more difficult elements of traditional martial arts.
shorinji kempo is based on buddhism, nidans have to be priests, they have not interest in MMA, they have a vow of compassion, and the art is designed to strengthen that
For this to be a cult it's followers would have to worship their leader, be systematically thought reformed, and they would have to be under heavy exploitation of their leaders.
Also, people more wary of cults are more likely to join one.
The pressure points demonstrated in this video appear to work by attacking the blood system, increasing blood pressure dramatically in one specific area.
As for striking them, yes an mma fighter would not be able to strike that precisely in a real fight.
Yeah right, coz you haven't try it first hand. If you have tried it, you'll know that they know exactly what they are doing. they can make you feel excruciating pain
@ShiftingFeet Blows to the neck, throat and back of the head/neck are illegal in the UFC and most MMA full contact competitions. If a fighter was the pull any of these technqiues off in the ring it would result in immediate disqulification and suspension/expusion from the ring and probably bared from ever returning. People need to wake up and stop worshipping sport fighting so much there far from the battlefield martial arts there derived from them!
@PARR53 neck shots are legal but not back of neck or head in modern mma. They were all allowed in vale tudo but had little effect, used pre-emptively in self defense, any heavy strike works but once the fight is on ,all bets are off.Whats shown in this vid is a bad joke,no pressure point s work in combat conditions, battlefield or anywhere else.Jap karate masters are the least qulified to teach fighting or self defense due to indoctrination and unscientific belief pervading the system.
@billysue2 Keyboard warrior if i ever seen one.... I do Kempo and Jiu Jitsu and found it very effective! Granted you cant always use a pressure point strike when your both about to square off and then sometimes you can. Depends on the situation!! I have been in plenty of street fights to know that Japanese Martial Arts work very well in Self Defense! As a boucner you get approached in the parking lot after hours too. Im sure Mitsuyo Maeda and the Gracies would disagree with you!
@griffitl maeda and the gracies thought jap jitsu and pressure point striking was a joke, maeda never did jujitsu,he did kodokan judo from the time he was a teenager and taught that to the gracies.
@scarred10 kodokan Judo is also referred to Kano Jiu Jitsu b/c Judo was created by Jigoro Kano. Maeda was a student of Kano. Pressure point striking is not a joke dude. There are certain areas that are for example under the arm pit that you can strike and it makes your arm almost go to sleep. For you to say the Japanese are the last ones to be teaching fighting arts or self defense is crazy. Maeda taught the Gracies! There ideas on BJJ would have never came to be if NOT for Kano and Maeda.
@griffitl it a joke becaue you cant hit a precise spot on a violently moving target while under severe stress yourself and under clothing.Japs are too full of suspicious shit to be logical, judo was created by an academic who understood rationality, thats why its very different to classical jujitsu
@ShiftingFeet I don't think it works on attacking the blood system? I think its more to do with striking clumps of nerve endings/joining to cause an over load of signals (pain).
Part 4 was more interesting especially the shiatsu and the pressure points. I'm not sure that you can actually pull those pressure point attacks in fighting otherwise we would have seen it in MMA type competitions. E person moves way too fast during a fight for you to be able to hit such accurately.
Another thing that sucks about this system is that it's basically a cult, people should be wary.
People have a misunderstanding sometimes. Many of the vital points are not meant to be used full speed in a fight, but are used when the time is appropriate. Once hands go up, guards are up, and the fight is on, it is not the time to use grabbing points, but the fight then moves to other ranges and other techniques, like the rear naked choke for example. However, the vital point can be used very effectively if the situation is correct for them to be applied or struck.
this is one crazy ass class!!!! i wouldn't want to be here!
