@Killandro Well if you got all the settings turned up, and they still didnt show up, then it didn't install correctly. This can happen if the disk is scratched, or if you downloaded from a bad torrent. It doesn't sound like a graphic card or driver problem. I'm not 100% sure though, like i said, i have never played this game before.
the game is alright, but i would much prefer it were like sim city 4 where you just plop "suggested" zones rather then a block. You have to pretty much completely destroy your city when you get the medium size lots because you cant zone over the small ones, then when you get the large lots you have to make a new city, or put all the large buildings on one side.
Another negative is the traffic is always horrible unless you run like one way 8 lane roads around the place
i like how my income was like 180k/month and then when i did the trade with that other stupid city, my income's gone down from 180k to 4k/month. then i just quit the game lol
@Thornstalker No, it isn't. The music is not very good. All the music in the game is pretty much the same song with different styles and mood. Nothing like SC4 music.
SimCity 4 was an economic simulator. SimCity Societies is a social simulator. Cities XL is dictator simulator which gives you WAY to much control (as a gov official) over what buildings are built in a particular area. This takes away from the organic look and feel you have in SimCity 4. I don't have a unhealthy obsession to control peoples' style or lives so this does not appeal to me.
SimCity (the proper series, not the spin-offs) is concerned with planning a city the right way.
Cities XL is concerned with building a city your own way.
SimCity is a more challenging game, whereas Cities XL works better as a creative tool or toy.
I wouldn't equate wanting to control people (or, more accurately, the city) in a game to an unhealthy obsession - after all, it's acceptable to be all sorts of horrible things in games because there's no real impact on other people.

If you want a building simulator get sim towers. If you want to simulate being a mayor then deal with it. (the private sector) It is all just a matter of what game you want to play. But I would appreciate it if the designer would not try to manipulate the gamer by cramming their political ideologies down our throats.
By "less regulated" I mean a free-market economy, which would not be conducive to the mayor having any significant control over building projects beyond signing some forms saying "Yes, you can build that there" or "No, you can't build that there".
Since the only thing I can see as being remotely political is the restriction of free-enterprise and replacement of it with government projects, I'd suggest that you simply do the sensible thing and not buy the game - supply and demand.

The part I think Cities XL "sucks" at, and it's a really important thing in a city building game, is the way the buildings are being constructed. If you have the game, then you'll know what I mean. I also prefer Simcity 4 because the construction in that game is much better. Though, Cities XL beats Simcity4 in Graphics.

The thing I don't like about any of the city simulators thus far (except Sim City 1) is that they put skyscrapers in towns that have a quarter mile radius and are only four blocks across.
But, experience shown here in Cities XL makes the game very tempting to buy. I was devastated in the late 90s when Maxis announced the cancellation of the version of Sim City that would let you zoom down to street level and watch each car drive by while you looked up at the buildings.

@advtactics01 I got bored of Cities XL 2011 after the first day I played it, with its to many annoying objectives and you can't choose what buildings/houses you want because the game randomly chooses the bulidings and houses for you.
@eujeeves This game looks nice but Sim City 4 is so amazing, I just don't like how normal roads and freeways can't be as curvy as real live. So in the end you're city will look a bit boxy.
If they combined the graphics of this game to the gameplay of Sim City, it would be the greatest game ever.

@Hattakiri yes, and this was only their pilot game. Wait until you see City XL 2011. Now that's a true SimCity 5. I would say this was SimCity 4.5
