It kills me that so many Christians are knocking this book... its a book... it doesn't claim to be the GOSPEL but rather has done a very good job of helping non christians understand GOD, the TRINITY which is hard even for a christian to understand... and you know what... Who knows if GOD isn't a Black Woman.. or the holy spirit and Asian... or Jesus even GAY...get a grip you people... the Shack and the BIBLE are all about forgiveness and unconditional LOVE which the cHURCH is not doing !
The Shack does not say God is an African American woman (SPOILER ALERT) God revealed himself to Mack as this woman due to his spoiled relationship to his dad earlier in his life. Later on He presents himself as a father after he reconciles himself to his father. God chooses to manifest himself in many different ways. He choose to present himself to Mack as an African American woman because that is what would help in his healing.
People get so confused saying "This book is so terrible. It portrayed God as a african-american women." No, in the book God was only portrayed as that so that Mackenzie was stepped out of what society had portrayed God to be. This book is actually a great explanation of God and Jesus, in my opinion. I love this book. And as for cussing, God loves you unconditionally. God can hear your thoughts, he knows them. So why not just say it? Hewas angry. He was being honest with God.
I find "The Shack" a new version of "Good Morning, Holy Spirit". The only difference between them is: "The Shack" is unreal and the Benny Hinn's one is totally real. However, I can't understand why some people wanna search for distorts in "The Shack", principally with prejudices. Look! Why can my God not be black? My papa can transfigurate himself whatever he wants. No one can say how must to be God, because who is his friend feel that deeply in heart.
Why some people feel better than another ones. I can't understand why we can't forgive like Jesus and act like brothers and sisters. I totally disagree with this video and I advise Pastor Bob to search for help to be a God's friend and not his enemy.
Haha I go to catholic school and we read this for Summer reading for our religion class. My first day is tomorrow and I have a whole notebook of chapter summaries and an overall review to turn in. I found it alright. I don't feel like it's religiously bad. My Comments on the video: Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit SHOULD be like your friends BTW. And the only reason God was a black lady was to get rid of religious stereotypes. Have you read the book? I feel closer to God after reading this.
Why do some Christians have to disect every single piece of literature/musical piece and compare it to the Bible-the word of God. The Shack is an Amazing book that teaches love and forgiveness in a clever way with relatable characters. Relax and appreciate what a great message that this book is delivering and how dare he try and judge this author for his talents-I give Kudos to Will-I will continue to reccomend this book to others in hopes it will uplift others as it did to me
The Shack was phenomenal!!! its an uplifting book and this man is just upset with himself that he has devoted a lifetime of rules and responsibilities in a cult that he thought was his so called religion or devotion to God!!

I also believe that God does speak to us outside of the bible, I believe he speaks to us in our everyday lives. I just know that if it contradicts with the bible than one has been mislead. I also dont think we fully understand God. We know of his glory but have not been face to face with it. On the day we see him, we will still be amazed, suprised, and taken back at the sight of the mighty lord, to say in the least.

Yes I am my fathers equal! my father was given the authority to guide, lead, protect, and discipline me but in God's eyes we are equall. And my job is to submit and obey my father knowing that his will is for my own good. But my father even submits to me! He asks what i want to eat, in that moment he is submitting to me asking what I want. We would say thats "power", but its love. Love is kind, love never thinks about hierarchy and never struggles for power. love isnt selfish.
Yes, the bible is true and is Gods word but just because something isnt in the bible it doesnt mean that it is not true. Example: smoking weed and getting high is a sin. as a previous smoker I know it is. that high feeling is not from God so I know it must not be of God and therefore is agaisnt God. the bible doesnt cover specifically weed but through God's word we gain knowledge to see things for what they are.

The truth is that we just need to chase after god and allow himself to reveal the truth to us. If we are seperated from God by sin than we are seperated from jesus by sin. It makes it quite clear in the bible that the Father loves Jesus, and that Jesus loves the Father. It also makes it clear that God is the Father, Jesus, and the Holy spirit in one. So if Jesus can love God and God love Jesus wouldnt you say that they have a relationship? And since they have a relationship and we believe that Jesus is God wouldnt you say that God is capable with a relationship within "him" self?
As you can see the bible is clear that Jesus loves the Father and that the Father loves jesus. It even says that God so loved the world that he gave up his only son. If Jesus is God but can still pray and talk to God, wouldnt you say that is a relationship within himself? Therefore when I interpret the bible I see a God of love and relationship. and because we are made from his perfect image I believe that God knew of relationship before he even made us.
It says in the bible that we are made out of Gods image. Why are we in such need of relationship? This is because our God is a God of relationship. When Jesus was on earth, in scripture it says that God said Behold my son whom I love. Jesus was on the cross and said father forgive them they know not what they do. Yes Jesus did say that. Jesus does what the father tells him to do, but the relationship between the three is hard for us to understand. God, Jesus and the holy spirit love each other and they submit to each other equally. They put each other above themselves, even though they together are one. The spirit does answer to God the father and Jesus to the spirit, The holy spirit is from God himself. There is no hierarchy between them, they are one. The holy spirit is Gods spirit.

This book is so badly written. The grammar is all over the place and the whole story is so, so trite. If you want to read a book which is almost impossible to put down, read 'the hard road out of hell' by Marylin Manson. The Shack is boring and nonsensical. My four year old invents more realistic stories.

The religious said the same thing about Jesus..... He also told them that they neglect the thing of God due to their traditions. Perhaps your traditions get in the way of a true relationship with Him and you have a need to take it out on others who can actually see the truth. That is why I think you are confused. Early believers did not believe in anything but the saving power of Christ.

"The Shack" is an awsome book, highly reccomend it ! It will be especially good for those people who always think of God as the big mean guy up stairs thats ready to pounce on somebody who happens to offend him.

Preachers who speak out against this book have no argument at all. Listen to what Paul young says in his interviews. He has asked many of these preachers to have debate with him, and they refuse. Why? My Jewish friend read the book and loved it. She knows truth when she hears it. We cannot hear the truth these preachers speak from behind their expensive suits and Marbel podiums. It makes me sick how they still charge people money to tell them that they are gong to hell.

The author tries to mold God into the type of god he wants, & this is what is presented in the book! I guess I would only comment that we could substitute The Shack and insert ANY fictional work (The Great Divorce. for example) into your criticism. All it really says in the end is that "I don't believe the author's opinion's are scriptural". To defend your case you would be better off showing specific things where the author has clearly erred in the light of the Bible.
@timandmon Honestly I have not read the book, but from what I know about it, I can tell it is BLASPHEMY! Portraying God as a black woman is in itself blasphemous! The author is obliviously trying to mold God into something he & others can relate to & understand. The problem is though, that God is HOLY & man in his natural state is WICKED, & God & natural man have NOTHING IN COMMON!

I have read the book so I will counter what you say: "I have heard enough to know God IS in his book." Now that doesn't make sense w/o clarifying, and that is what you are doing. David says God has 'wings', Paul says we are 1 'bread', believers are called the 'body' of Christ, on and on. @macolyis: A symbol and an allegory accomplish the exact same thing, they use something that we know well and show the ways it is similar with something else harder to innately understand. Bread is a symbol AND allegory both. The body does not literally describe who we are - think about it - that doesn't make sense. It is figurative - a symbol and allegory. Any fictional book speaking like the Shack does is using words in a non-literal way to help us understand aspects of God more clearly.

@macolyis: The book CLEARY does not want evil men to be the way they are - that was the whole point of the weekend in the story. It was showing the character where he didn't understand the reality of his own shortcomings and how he desperately NEEDED a Savior to dig him out of the pit of doubt, blame, and disobedience that was ruining his life. If you can't see that you either haven't read the book or you accidentally read the wrong one.

@tim, What books like the Narnia books do, is take an OBVIOUSLY evil person like Edmond who is evil by even the worlds standard, & reform him to be a "good"person by the worlds standard, & call that "repentance"!
According to the Narnia books only Edmond needed to repent because Lucy Peter & Susan were already righteous by their own works, so all Edmond need to do was become as "righteous" as them & stop betraying them to be murdered!
By God's standard they were ALL vile & ALL worldly IDOLATERS!

i think he's warning people about the book because there are so many people taking it as better the the bible. the shack is fiction & i heard someone say that churches buy this book by the cases & do bible studies from them. that's why this needs to addressed, he's not the one misguiding and missing the point, it's the rest of the "called by Jesus, but few are chosen" & he's trying to stop them from going into error
God is All Mighty, the Creator, etc. & the bible says you will die if you saw his face. His love, please, mercy, kindness, Holiness, greatness, etc will make the strongest man melt to the ground.
I am not endorsing The Shack. I have not read it, but have heard too much controversy about it to want to. However, I will say this (and I don't endorse cussing at God either) I did cuss at God the day I got saved. I am still amazed at His mercy and that he did not BLOW me away. I shook my finger in His face and said, "If you're real and you give a damn about me I want you to show me right now!!!" And He did. He revealed Jesus on the cross to me. I have never been the same since.
That is an awesome testimony and shows the true heart of God. The shack isnt about a mans perspective of God but it is of the personality of him. In the bible it mentions, multiple times, the love God has for us and how no mans love could ever compare. The shack is just a fictional book that displays the unconditional love Jesus has for all his children. It reveals some of gods mercy and love for us and it also shows how God wants us to be dependant on him and trust in his ways.

Our concepts of God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit cannot be limited to Scriptural interpretations of long ago. Why should we accept Scripture as the only revelation of the nature of God? The Living God continues to reveal to all of us in ways and means we can hear today from many sources and experiences.

And the reason the author made God appear as a black woman was so that you could not slump back into a comfortable zone. it was to bring you to a more companionable relationship with God

Allegory is a powerful device used to point at truth, it is not the truth itself. The Pilgrims Progress taught us much about God, but it was not replacing the Bible. In the same way, the Shack teaches Scriptural concepts in an interesting and unusual way. I agree with some of the comments, the real problem here is that there is an economic threat to these kinds of teachers from books like the Shack that teach people to think for themselves.
This is the type of "religion" i hate..There is nothing wrong with this book and in fact shows a fictional story of love, mercy and forgiveness. If this book goes against scripture than tell me Mr. Know-it-all Pastor, how does God look? This is a beautiful story in which God takes a form in which suprises Mack's old religious beliefs of how God should be..God is not an old man with a white beard. God is real and wants a real relationship not a phony, ritualistic one.

Wonderful book, even though fiction This book shows the author is drawing from his intimate relationship he has with his heavenly Father, he reveals parts of Gods nature that doesn't come from spending hours in front of a commentary or sitting in the front row of the church for years or even fasting and praying but from excepting and believing in the finished work of Jesus on our behalf and resting in Him not in our abilities.

This book is very "Godless" and misleading. The book states over and over again that mack needs to rethink his "religious conditioning". It's ridiculous that these are the kinds of things people focus on as christians. The controversy doesn't surprise me, however. People never like it when God is made out to be so personal. We feel more secure viewing God as the great majestic King of all creation. The insecurities come when God gets personalized and suddenly becomes so small that He creeps right into the nooks and crannies of our lives and suddenly we can't hide ourselves anymore. That's the God we see in The Shack.
So, it very clear this pastor either did not read the book, or cared not to take the book into full context(Much Like his buddy Mark Driscoll did). Had he done so, he might not of so blindly endorsed his friends review. It cracked me up when he was about to describe how The Shack describes Jesus, because had he read it, he would of said, a Jewish carpenter. How is that crazy that? Not? As we know(through scripture) God can speak to in man forms, i.e: a donkey and a burning bush.
If the Shack is anti-biblical than what about pilgrim's progress? That must be so anti-biblical. I have read the book and there is nothing anti-biblical about the Shack. You need to look at the true messages of the book. Im sure you havent even read it

It an allegory people! Do you feel the same way about Pilgrim's Progress or any of CS Lewis' works? Jesus spoke in parables that related to the culture He was speaking to as well. BTW when Jesus came to earth the first time, it was the "learned religious leaders" that had him killed because He did fit their pre conceived expectations. Be careful what you condemn, it could be God Himself.

The Shack does not say God is an African American woman (SPOILER ALERT) God revealed himself to Mack as this woman due to his spoiled relationship to his dad earlier in his life. Later on He presents himself as a father after he reconciles himself to his father. God chooses to manifest himself in many different ways. He choose to present himself to Mack as an African American woman because that is what would help in his healing.

People get so confused saying "This book is so terrible. It portrayed God as a african-american women." No, in the book God was only portrayed as that so that Mackenzie was stepped out of what society had portrayed God to be. This book is actually a great explanation of God and Jesus, in my opinion. I love this book. And as for cussing, God loves you unconditionally. God can hear your thoughts, he knows them. So why not just say it? Hewas angry. He was being honest with God.

I find "The Shack" a new version of "Good Morning, Holy Spirit". The only difference between them is: "The Shack" is unreal and the Benny Hinn's one is totally real. However, I can't understand why some people wanna search for distorts in "The Shack", principally with prejudices. Look! Why can my God not be black? Haha I go to catholic school and we read this for Summer reading for our religion class. My first day is tomorrow and I have a whole notebook of chapter summaries and an overall review to turn in. I found it alright. I don't feel like it's religiously bad. My Comments on the video: Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit SHOULD be like your friends BTW. And the only reason God was a black lady was to get rid of religious stereotypes. Have you read the book? I feel closer to God after reading this.

Why do some Christians have to disect every single piece of literature/musical piece and compare it to the Bible-the word of God. The Shack is an Amazing book that teaches love and forgiveness in a clever way with relatable characters. Relax and appreciate what a great message that this book is delivering and how dare he try and judge this author for his talents-I give Kudos to Will-I will continue to reccomend this book to others in hopes it will uplift others as it did to me

I've had times when I am hurt and angry, I scream at God with my frustration, God wants me to be real with him. I also believe that God does speak to us outside of the bible, I believe he speaks to us in our everyday lives. I just know that if it contradicts with the bible than one has been mislead. I also dont think we fully understand God. We know of his glory but have not been face to face with it. On the day we see him, we will still be amazed, suprised, and taken back at the sight of the mighty lord, to say in the least.

I see love in that. and I know the father and son and holy spirit are distinct yet all in one and I know they love each other, im not missing anything. its what ive been saying from the get go lol.
To serve with a good heart you must submit, so yes they are not the same thing but serving requires submission. A pridefull heart cannot serve.

Its the time spent with God. a 40 year old could have spent 39 of his years without God and therefore a 20 year old who has spent his whole life with God would be more mature, spiritually speaking. I never said we were perfect that is clearly known. The truth is we dont know God for all he is, All I know is that he loves, hes three in one, his mercys are more than I can imagine.

Yes I am my fathers equal! my father was given the authority to guide, lead, protect, and discipline me but in God's eyes we are equall. And my job is to submit and obey my father knowing that his will is for my own good. But my father even submits to me! He asks what i want to eat, in that moment he is submitting to me asking what I want. We would say thats "power", but its love. Love is kind, love never thinks about hierarchy and never struggles for power. love isnt selfish.

Yes, the bible is true and is Gods word but just because something isnt in the bible it doesnt mean that it is not true. Example: smoking weed and getting high is a sin. as a previous smoker I know it is. that high feeling is not from God so I know it must not be of God and therefore is agaisnt God. the bible doesnt cover specifically weed but through God's word we gain knowledge to see things for what they are.

Where is scripture for that? there isnt really, but we know this because of the actions of God. there are things the bible will reveal and there are other things God will reveal to one himslef. The truth is that we just need to chase after god and allow himself to reveal the truth to us. If we are seperated from God by sin than we are seperated from jesus by sin. I dont know why you think we are seperated from God but not from Jesus. . Where is the scripture to back that up? what about king David? did he know Jesus? not the name but he knew God and had a great relationship with him. and yes sin seperates us from God but jesus died for all of our sin, no more seperation

It makes it quite clear in the bible that the Father loves Jesus, and that Jesus loves the Father. It also makes it clear that God is the Father, Jesus, and the Holy spirit in one. So if Jesus can love God and God love Jesus wouldnt you say that they have a relationship? And since they have a relationship and we believe that Jesus is God wouldnt you say that God is capable with a relationship within "him" self?

As you can see the bible is clear that Jesus loves the Father and that the Father loves jesus. It even says that God so loved the world that he gave up his only son. If Jesus is God but can still pray and talk to God, wouldnt you say that is a relationship within himself? Therefore when I interpret the bible I see a God of love and relationship. and because we are made from his perfect image I believe that God knew of relationship before he even made us.

It says in the bible that we are made out of Gods image. Why are we in such need of relationship? This is because our God is a God of relationship. When Jesus was on earth, in scripture it says that God said Behold my son whom I love. Jesus was on the cross and said father forgive them they know not what they do. It also says that the Father, Jesus, and the holy spirit are all in one(trinity).

Yes Jesus did say that. Jesus does what the father tells him to do, but the relationship between the three is hard for us to understand. God, Jesus and the holy spirit love each other and they submit to each other equally. They put each other above themselves, even though they together are one. The spirit does answer to God the father and Jesus to the spirit, The holy spirit is from God himself. There is no hierarchy between them, they are one. The holy spirit is Gods spirit.

For ex.,you said "there are hundreds of people who've read this book and now say they understand the Holy Trinity." I said readers MAY say they now understand the Trinity clearer, yet they could say that about ANY work discussing the Trinity. Let's judge it by if it's teachings clearly contradict the Bible, not by if people say it helped them understand or not.

we really should pity these people, they have no capacity to think for themselves, if it's not contained in the 'word of God' written 2000 years ago by Constantine's commitee meeting then it can't be true or even relavent. These people say they are protecting the word of God but what they are really doing is protecting their own self interest and reducing God to a figure that they can put in a box, a box that only they have the key for. Read 'the Shack' and make up your own mind.

This book is so badly written. The grammar is all over the place and the whole story is so, so trite. If you want to read a book which is almost impossible to put down, read 'the hard road out of hell' by Marylin Manson. The Shack is boring and nonsensical. My four year old invents more realistic stories.

The religious said the same thing about Jesus..... He also told them that they neglect the thing of God due to their traditions. Perhaps your traditions get in the way of a true relationship with Him and you have a need to take it out on others who can actually see the truth. That is why I think you are confused. Early believers did not believe in anything but the saving power of Christ.

Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. Read The Shack for yourself. You don't need anyone other than the Spirit of God as your teacher and your guide, not this guy, Colson, or McArthur. These doctrinal police who have little kingdoms to protect can't even recognize an allegory. Jesus had the most scathing words of rebuke to the religious leaders who thought they knew God but missed him altogether. Yet the current day Pharisees don't seem to make the connection. I feel sorry for them.

So glad that everyone is allowed their own opinions. I respect people who share Christ's love without trying to judge or "play" God themselves. The Shack is a NOVEL. It is not a theology book. The author did not say that God is a black woman. He wrote a piece of fiction in hopes that someone would be moved to learn more about God/Jesus/The Holy Spirit. I am frightened of some "Christians" Pastor Bob is one of them.

Preachers who speak out against this book have no argument at all. Listen to what Paul young says in his interviews. He has asked many of these preachers to have debate with him, and they refuse. Why? My Jewish friend read the book and loved it. She knows truth when she hears it. We cannot hear the truth these preachers speak from behind their expensive suits and Marbel podiums. It makes me sick how they still charge people money to tell them that they are gong to hell.

Jesus sure loved using fictional constructs to reveal deeper things that are difficult to FULLY describe in one way. I guess I would only comment that we could substitute The Shack and insert ANY fictional work (The Great Divorce. for example) into your criticism. All it really says in the end is that "I don't believe the author's opinion's are scriptural". To defend your case you would be better off showing specific things where the author has clearly erred in the light of the Bible.

David says God has 'wings', Paul says we are 1 'bread', believers are called the 'body' of Christ, on and on. @macolyis: A symbol and an allegory accomplish the exact same thing, they use something that we know well and show the ways it is similar with something else harder to innately understand. Bread is a symbol AND allegory both. The body does not literally describe who we are - think about it - that doesn't make sense. It is figurative - a symbol and allegory. Any fictional book speaking like the Shack does is using words in a non-literal way to help us understand aspects of God more clearly.

It was showing the character where he didn't understand the reality of his own shortcomings and how he desperately NEEDED a Savior to dig him out of the pit of doubt, blame, and disobedience that was ruining his life. If you can't see that you either haven't read the book or you accidentally read the wrong one.

I am not endorsing The Shack. I have not read it, but have heard too much controversy about it to want to. However, I will say this (and I don't endorse cussing at God either) I did cuss at God the day I got saved. I am still amazed at His mercy and that he did not BLOW me away. I shook my finger in His face and said, "If you're real and you give a damn about me I want you to show me right now!!!" And He did. He revealed Jesus on the cross to me. I have never been the same since.

That is an awesome testimony and shows the true heart of God. The shack isnt about a mans perspective of God but it is of the personality of him. In the bible it mentions, multiple times, the love God has for us and how no mans love could ever compare. The shack is just a fictional book that displays the unconditional love Jesus has for all his children. It reveals some of gods mercy and love for us and it also shows how God wants us to be dependant on him and trust in his ways.

Our concepts of God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit cannot be limited to Scriptural interpretations of long ago. Why should we accept Scripture as the only revelation of the nature of God? The Living God continues to reveal to all of us in ways and means we can hear today from many sources and experiences.

there is so much about everything that people don't know about. and this little prick thinks he knows God better than someone else when how can he? people need to soften their hearts and see what other people think. scripture can be very varied and metaphorical, and he has no place to say that God couldnt be our 'friend' or 'pal'

Allegory is a powerful device used to point at truth, it is not the truth itself. The Pilgrims Progress taught us much about God, but it was not replacing the Bible. In the same way, the Shack teaches Scriptural concepts in an interesting and unusual way. I agree with some of the comments, the real problem here is that there is an economic threat to these kinds of teachers from books like the Shack that teach people to think for themselves.

This is the type of "religion" i hate..There is nothing wrong with this book and in fact shows a fictional story of love, mercy and forgiveness. If this book goes against scripture than tell me Mr. Know-it-all Pastor, how does God look? This is a beautiful story in which God takes a form in which suprises Mack's old religious beliefs of how God should be..God is not an old man with a white beard. God is real and wants a real relationship not a phony, ritualistic one.

I feel truly sad for this guy. He is angry at a fictional book that has YHWH show up as a black-american woman. How shocking !
The book is fiction. It's about healing & overcoming our shame & all the false sense of godliness people get from pretending they can half-way do Old Covenant. Christ said it's all about Faith mercy & grace. Focus on this and do not leave my commandments undone.
Calvary Church is all about feel good-isms and poor biblical exegesis, funny that they hate The Shack

Come on guys, just a cursory reading of Scripture will tell you what is said in the Shack is garbage. Open your eyes! The Bible is our highest authority, not our feelings. It doesn't matter how the book makes you feel, if it doesn't line up with Scripture, then it is a deception. I say this with all sincerity. I'm not trying to be a "Pharisee" or anything like that. I'm saying this because I want the Truth!

What the hell is wrong with you people... i am a normal everyday Christian, and i see nothing wrong with the book it has helped me much...if anything it helps people understnad the bible... why cant God be seen as a large balck women ... there is nothing wrong with it... the only reason why Mack was causing ay God is because he was angery and going through something so he could see that God wa there to help him.. If you dont like the book then dont fucking read it...

@djkissbird While this preacher is a being a sad tool of bondage, .. the Holy Bible does tell us that we are to judge among each other on matters of rigteousness. You mistake the current American PC-trend of crying "dont judge me" and those who misquote the bible "lest ye be judge." We are not to judge the unbeliever. Most Christians are ignorant of the actual bible, let alone fictional books. I'd bet most in this guys congregation are radically ignorant - but fear-mongering prevails

to be the BIBLE or a substitute. GOD can use what ever means HE wants to, inorder to help people of every sort of life and/or background an does not need "your help?" YOU are wrong Bob, Pray about it, then read "The Shack".
You might just see it as it really is meant to be. A work to help people have a little different perspective of GOD. HE is really quite capable of taking care of HIMSELF!

Wonderful book, even though fiction This book shows the author is drawing from his intimate relationship he has with his heavenly Father, he reveals parts of Gods nature that doesn't come from spending hours in front of a commentary or sitting in the front row of the church for years or even fasting and praying but from excepting and believing in the finished work of Jesus on our behalf and resting in Him not in our abilities.

Hey, I've got an idea... wouldn't it be nearly faster just to read to book and discern for one's self rather than download a FIFTEEN PAGE REVIEW on the book?
If pastor bob can tell me that Jesus doesn't meet people where they are at in life, rather than waiting for them to "get it all together", then maybe he has missed a few pages when he was reading his scriptures in bible college.

the BIBLE is the way to God..to know the WORD is to know JESUS.. why did it take a fictional book to bring christians to a better understanding of GOD? because they wanted HIM to be what they want Him to be..but they don't want to be what HE wants them to be..

In rejecting the Shack people show how religion has a grip on there mindset, the Jews at the time of Jesus were waiting for a Messiah that had the stature of a king, who was born in royalty and came with power to destroy the Roman empire, instead they got a carpenter born in a manger with no striking features and no army and looked and behaved more human than God and then allowed Himself to be captured tried and killed, God can show Himself as a burning bush, pillar of smoke even a black woman

This book is very "Godless" and misleading. The book states over and over again that mack needs to rethink his "religious conditioning". Huh?!? by saying our religious conditioning they mean rethink how the bible portrays God, rethink what the bible says about sin, disregard everything that the bible tells you and adapt a version of God that best suites you...

It's ridiculous that these are the kinds of things people focus on as christians. The controversy doesn't surprise me, however. People never like it when God is made out to be so personal. We feel more secure viewing God as the great majestic King of all creation. The insecurities come when God gets personalized and suddenly becomes so small that He creeps right into the nooks and crannies of our lives and suddenly we can't hide ourselves anymore. That's the God we see in The Shack.

So, it very clear this pastor either did not read the book, or cared not to take the book into full context(Much Like his buddy Mark Driscoll did). Had he done so, he might not of so blindly endorsed his friends review. It cracked me up when he was about to describe how The Shack describes Jesus, because had he read it, he would of said, a Jewish carpenter. How is that crazy that? Not? As we know(through scripture) God can speak to in man forms, i.e: a donkey and a burning bush.

It an allegory people! Do you feel the same way about Pilgrim's Progress or any of CS Lewis' works? Jesus spoke in parables that related to the culture He was speaking to as well. BTW when Jesus came to earth the first time, it was the "learned religious leaders" that had him killed because He did fit their pre conceived expectations. Be careful what you condemn, it could be God Himself.

oh my wow peeps. we need to have a clear understanding of scripture and when something doesnt line up it needs to be called out. we should not make any graven images of God. God in his image is described as being invisible. these come from the word of God. wanna get to know God read the bible not some book about the bible that in this day and culture is most likely to be false teaching anyways
