  • Sound is so bad, I can barely hear what he's saying :(

    Is there any better version?

  • Aron is a Klingon raised by Vulcans

    ;-)

  • Badass and well thought out definition of "creationism":at 8:40 !!

Thank you AronRa for putting up with all the bullshit and needless arguing that you do!

Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed just remember that you are reaching out to a growing audience and are at least (hopefully) getting "them" to think a little more about "their" position...

  • What was that he said at 3:24? "My primary interest was in ___" ?

  • @absolutebob My primary interest was in phylogenetics, cladistic taxonomy.

  • ANY LIFE ON MARS CAME FROM EARTH! Please read and pass on this Internet article. Just google the title.

  • I got much respect for this guy...He took the time to read both sides....I mean I am A christian myself but am sometimes impatient with creationists who spew empty info in every small debate or skirmish.

Very educated and reasonable man. =)

  • 21 people are creationists who thinks the thumbs down button is up.

  • That eyeball would make a sweet wallpaper. Is there a high res version anywhere?

  • NEVER be embarrassed to tell the truth, AronRa.

  • This is one lf the longer vidoes that AronRa has published, so it took me till now to get around to watching it. IMHO he has raised his own bar higher and made one of the most interesting talks I have seen from him. I'm looking forward to a video that is a hybrid between his normal entertaining approach and this compelling talk.

  • I fancy all the people at ACA and AronRa, but the poor quality is just killing me. Me as an atheist and a sceptic who is interested in truth can still manage to watch this, but many of my not so "thoughtful" friends wouldnt "waste" their time on this. It's a shame since they really are the ones who really need to see this. Get the technic at level with the information please. Greetings from Finland.

  • Kill the audio tech,

Aron is holding a microphone that the tech forgot to hook up and we hear him from the one on the desk that i sfar away.

  • "Morality" is rooted entirely in the presupposition some higher power defines what is correct for human behavior.

Religion and morality belong to the psychology of error. The whole realm of religion and morality is one of false causes...

  • i am glad i found you.

  • AronRa Will you please get on Facebook. We Atheist need you.Matt is on their and Tracie.I'm friends with both of them. You having a profile or page would be great.Plus I can educate some of my Religitard Family and Friends. It is a pain being a Black Atheist. My People have an overabundance of Religitardation.

  • @Afs189 And yet, he wears a ring on his finger. If he's an atheist or infidel (what ever he considers himself), why the ring (a religious tradition)? Just remember one thing, no one knows (ultimately); some are just better at articulating their point well.

  • sorry for posting the first part so many times i though that it was not working

  • @Meleehero Thank you very much for sharing all that. Sincerely.

  • life and thought that i would take the easy way out, skim through life with as little work as possible. I am also not the one to thank someone sincerely on the internet.

After skydiving i was watching TV and a kirk Cameron commercial came on about how to convince an atheist. I have always been, well not always but since i could think for myself, considered myself an atheist and my Japanese buddy was wondering who the actor was since he was spewing a load of BS. So i got on youtube and stumbled..

  • across the Thunderf00t channel, i was hooked. Tf00t said many things that i belived but was unable to articulate. I had always felt alone as an atheist, even tho my best friends are both atheist. From there i went on to a whole plethora of people like Tf00t. Dprjones, cdk007, liberalviewer, Andromedaswake, donexodus, many many more, and one of those was yourself. For the past 2 months i have been mesmerized by all of your works and have been trying to watch and comprehend all of your videos..

  • its been tough but well worth it. You and Tf00t have opened my eyes, even though i was never religious and have always loved science and technology. You guys have allowed me to openly scrutinize religions and as tf00t would put it, things that retard the growth of society. I was, well still am at the moment until i go back to school, one of those that would leach off society. I have not had a job for 4 years but now i have one and am going to go to school for something in the field of Cosmology.

  • i am telling you all of this because it is this very video that made me do all of this. You gave me an epiphany. Its when you started to say "that for a laymen everything i knew about science was useless trivia. So i dropped the idea of getting a MCSD and even tho i was a High school dropout and now middle aged i pursued a Geo Science Degree. Which by the way is a lot harder to do if you have a family, so if you don't yet, don't wait, theres nothing to wait for.

  • "So if you don't yet, don't wait, theres nothing to wait for" That part the last part especially of not waiting has resonated in me. So now i will be pursuing a degree in science. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank You. Sincerely Taylor Whitney, Bay Area CA

  • I am always amazed at creationist stupidity.

They show pictures like this in protest of acceptance of evolution? What does that say about their god?

Because obviously all this existed in spades long before Darwin hit the scene. They've got to believe their god deliberately allows this stuff to happen.

  • just watched all five. excellent talk.

  • you, thunderfoot, and taylorx04 are my favorite youtube atheists! :)

  • So with all this talk of morality, I thought it would interest you to know that it appears E. coli gives the same moral weight to not being a cheater that humans do. "Horizontal Gene Transfer of the Secretome Drives the Evolution of Bacterial Cooperation and Virulence" is a pretty cool study about how bacteria avoid the cost of cooperation from cheaters by forcing all who benefit from the cooperation to join in or die. You don't even need to have a brain to be moral hurray!

  • Aron, you remind me of a clingon.

  • Excellent stuff. Too bad the audio sucks super bad.

  • Wonderful Video ^_^

  • AronRa is living proof that it's never too late to go back to school regardless of background. Kudos!

  • @Direkin, yes, in THIS country (and probably Canada). It's awfully nice to live in a place that not only allows but encourages us to reinvent ourselves at will. It's a rare, rare thing, people, and one of the many reasons to love America (even with all its craziness).

  • @Direkin Which epic hair like that, how can he not be living proof?

  • Thanks for the tip, gormanilius. That did the trick.

  • I see it fine

  • Aron, I get the same error, regardless of browser, and adding &fmt=4 to the URL did not fix it. I actually noticed this a few days ago. Your other videos seem to work fine. Perhaps just take it down and upload it again?

  • Someone else just explained that you have to go to the bottom right and change the setting from 360p to 480p.

  • Loads for me.

  • Can anyone else see this video?

  • yes why? cause of the 1 week comment gap?

  • Every time I click this particular video, I get "an error has occurred". It only seems to happen on this video, but it has happened on every computer or browser I've tried recently.

  • It works for me. Try adding &fmt=4 to the end of the URL. That will give you a slightly lower quality version of the video. Or adjust your playback quality settings in youtube preferences.

  • It's loading for me, too. Never had a problem, though it's been a week or so since I last viewed it.

Sometimes a bad download will force me to empty the cache before I can view a video, but if it's happening everywhere for you, then... well, that's kinda weird, heh.

  • We have to go to the bottom right of the video and change from 360p to 480p

  • @AronRa

It is because a joker walked into the room...

  • @AronRa Yeah but youtube is fucked up these days and most of vids don't load if you don't play with the quality settings.

  • Excellent speech AronRa. With great videos\photos to go along with it. Like the elephant vid. But my favorite was the lions video. It had everything within it to demonstrate what you were saying. Anyone who looks at that will see the roots of morality. I'd love to see you make another video using that clip with but with more of your excellent narration.

  • I am from Orlando. had no idea you were so close by. would have been neat to hear you live.

  • Science is testable PERIOD. I am a person of faith, but science is science.

  • I don't like the term 'Evolutionist' - it sounds like a word made up by Creationists because they don't understand the concept of not having to rely on belief in something to accept its truth, and to me is misused by Creationists to infer all those other things that have nothing to do with evolution. 'Rationalist' probably does the job of summing up that list of things you mentioned around the 8 minute mark that one can accept based on the evidence gathered.

    [apologies for long post!]

  • hi man, thanks for covering this awesome topic, but, i have to tell you, english is not my mother tongue and its difficult to understan everything you say (cause of the ambient recording) as an amateur musician i reccomend you to record your voice directly from your mic with a computer and the video with a standard camera, then all you have to do is synchronize both files. ;)

by the way do you have the script?

    thanks and gbye

  • Great work, AronRa, as usual. Keep on truckin'.

  • You are a terrific speaker Aronra. Not a sign of nervousness, speaking loud and clear. Keep up the great work.

  • Dr. Bakker, to any who might be unfamiliar with this individual, is a pentecostal preacher at Harvard. He also just happens to be the "father" of the evolutionary origins of birds in dinosaurs.

  • Aron- I have to say that your videos are the best videos available related to science.

    -

You have mentioned "other Christians" who are accepting of evolution and you reference Kenneth Miller. For your consideration, two others would be Dr. Francis Collins and my personal favorite, Dr. Robert Bakker.

    -

If you are familiar with them then I simply thank you for your "most excellent" videos.

  • The experience you described in the beginning sounds a lot like mine. I've generally agreed with the theory of evolution for a long time, but I thought there might still be a little bit of truth in the creationist/ID side, too - or at least some serious holes in the TOE. (I'd heard the Darwin eye quote... out of context.) This was about a year ago, and it didn't take me more than a couple weeks to see that creationists have absolutely no valid scientific evidence to support their position.

  • Congrats on your first guest speaker gig!

  • Aron. I love these videos. Please keep posting them. But is there any chance of reposting them with subtitles?

  • @Afs189

A statement of immeasurable veracity XD

  • AronRa why won't you allow my video response to this video if you think evolution is true then my video response won't hurt?

    peace

  • @purpose2life : LOL... He must be AFRAID. Your video could cause all of evolution science to fall apart and he will need to admit that he just hates your god and never believed satan's/Darwin's lies! He's just a coward. Totally. Your video will give him nose bleeds and pull down his pants in front of pretty girls. Go get him! He can run from you forever. You are SCARY.

  • @purpose2life are you really dumbenough to think he wont allow your video because hes afarid of it?

  • I just watched your videos. They are utter rubbish. Its not an exaggeration to say that they are about 40% blatant false hoods and 60% completely not even understanding the most basic principals of evolution.

Why would you even want to push crap like that? Why not objectively go out and find the truth instead of promoting this soul crushing dogmatism you're caught up in?

I'm not trying to be a jerk but you arent even being honest with yourself,

  • purpose2life, I will watch your video. But to save time, I'm going to critique it in stages. Since the first few moments were naught but readily disprovable bald-faced lies, then I'll point them out one-by-one and get you to admit to each successive error in sequence. Would that suit you?

  • @purpose2life if i were as eager to censor as the creatards i'd file a dmca on your videos since you admit you simply took them from elsewhere and clearly dont have the rigths to reproduce them here. but the humor in putting X's over pictures, as if that proves anything at all, is simply too much to deprive others of.

  • I haven't even watched this yet, and I already have to say THANK YOU for putting this up! I have ranted about the evolutionary basis of morality for years, and I had always wondered that specific aspect of religion was never addressed from a biological standpoint (on youtube that is). So I have to say FINALLY! and thank you again!

  • It was great to hear about your background, Aron. I have a graduate degree in the social sciences but have always been fascinated by paleontology the earth sciences. Thanks for the videos.

  • Is that Darwin on your shirt?

  • It was very cool meeting you at Darwin Day. Your presentation made the trip well worth it. Keep making videos about everything you can. Your input is priceless

  • So sad that all these guys know/talk about are Darwinian evolution on one hand and Christianity on the other. I think you need to read the Vedas..they have gone so deep into this subject.

  • @fridaysabtu

Are you saying that you believe that climate change is caused by continental drift?

  • Comment removed

  • This is somewhat painful to listen to. I'm super excited to hear the content, but the quality is atrocious. =\

  • The sound sucks

  • Speech is okay, needs more passion!

  • This would have been so much better if an output was sent from the mixer to the camera.

  • Thank you AronRa for this great speech.

  • this sounds really interesting but the audio kinda sucks! any chance of cleaning it up or getting captions?

  • wonderful lecture

love the definitions at the end

    five stars

  • AronRa... speaking slowly. My world, torn asunder!

  • "...who may object to everything science is or does, both in principle and practice..."

Not if they're putting their schpiel on the internet.

  • Evolution simply does not state that life happened "Randomly."

In fact it says the OPPOSITE of that. That the variety of life seen today is due entirely to predictable, measurable natural forces. There's nothing random about it.

  • @LordOmberus, I'm waiting for the chance of a particular type of creationist that cite the complexity of atoms with the most atomic mass, and say it in no way can "randomely" form from Hydrogen, which was "randomely" formed from quarks...

  • It's a pipedream dude. Creationists don't even know what a "Quark" is. I'm amazed at how many know what "Atoms" are, and seem to accept that they exist, even though Atomic Theory is "Just" a theory.

  • Reuben: You fail at knowing what evolution means =]

    x

  • Not only that, he fails at knowing what logic is.

  • @PachucoDesigns now there's a quality argument for what I had to say.

  • Actually, Serioslump and PachucoDesigns both have valid points. You don't understand evolution, for evolution, to begin with, doesn't say "everything came from nothing." Furthermore, by your definition, you do NOT have the majority religion on the planet, since most christians do NOT believe the entire bible is the literal truth.

  • Yes, it is. Because you don't know what logic is. When you say "logic," what you mean is "common sense." And they're not the same thing. Logic has laws. Common sense is nothing more than a commonly held notion.

    Common sense says,

Everyone knows the world is round.

Now remember, everyone used to "know" the world was flat.

Now, logic is derived from evidence. Logic says,

Humans are apes. Apes are monkeys. Therefor, humans are monkeys.

    A=B, B=C, therefor A=C.

    That is logic.

  • Syllogism,bitches!

  • @reuben303998

Thumbs down all the way! Damn, you have some really shit arguments, actually, they're not even arguments are they?

  • @Serioslump Tell me what evolution means to you, o you who were there and can specifically, and and in fine detail tell me how it all went down.

  • This is patently untrue. What about "Individual Emergence" theory? It says that every lifeform sprang from the sea and developed on it's own, completely unrelated to one another and completely independently of any creator. It's obviously neither evolution nor creation.

Also, I would ask that you not act like it's you who gets to decide what a "Christian" is. There are absolutely no qualifying factors beyond claiming to be one, because it doesn't actually mean anything.

  • @LordOmberus

"...There are absolutely no qualifying factors beyond claiming to be one..."

True, that's why there are around 33,000 denominations of Christianity. If there was one "version" of Christianity, then I doubt that the initial thought behind your comment would have even crossed your mind.

  • It's not even so much the denominations themselves as the presence of people who belong to NO Denomination of Christianity and still say that they're Christians. These people amaze me most of all because they say completely honestly that they believe that EVERYTHING EVERYONE believes about Jesus and Christianity is wrong, but that the idea still has enough merit to pursue themselves. It's... amazing.

  • @LordOmberus I don't get to decide what a Christian is... Christ does. ;-) If you read the bible it'll tell you what it means to be a Christian (to a T). The different denominations of today are simply in existence because people decide they want to only follow certain rules, accept some of the truth that the bible offers and reject the rest. You can't call yourself a christian and disregard what the bible says.

  • @reuben303998

To advocate that which is said in the bible..you would have to be messed up in the head.

  • But there's no way to tell if the Bible is actually what it claims to be or if it's nothing more than a pack of lies put together to confuse and fool people. There are NO corroborating texts to support any of claim the Bible makes.

I say again that anyone can call themselves a Christian because the word "Christian" doesn't mean anything and has no qualifying factors whatsoever.

  • @reuben303998

Of course people decide to only follow some of the rules, and not all of them. Most of the stupid rules simply have no relevance today anymore like laying with another man, trimming your beard, planting wheat and barley in the same furrow, eating pork or shrimp, wearing polyester, masturbation, stoning disobedient children or people that work on Sundays to death. It's all nonsense! Are you suggesting that people "disregarding what the bible says" here, aren't "true Christians"?

  • Reuben, Im sorry but by your logic, there isnt a single christian on earth.

The bible has gone through so many revisions and edits, both minor and major, throughout its history that none of the about 20+ current versions of it in widespread circulation are the same (or even largely similar I imagine) as the "original".

Though I suppose this doesnt matter when many of the stories of jesus were being told before jesus existed, soo...

  • The Bible has gone through so many editions and revision thats why God has sent the final testament (the Quran)

  • And which particular revision of that is the true one then? I know of at least 5, though hell I know islam like I know the back of your hand

  • Not all Christians are creationists. I know of several Christians who accept evolution.

  • A couple of days ago, I found an Orthodox Christian website (in greek) which not only promotes the Theory of Evolution, but thoroughly debunks creationism.

  • The flaw in that reasoning is that it assumes that magic is a real thing, which can be done, and that there are people that can do it, but must be discouraged from doing so.

"Magic" in this sense doesn't mean the specific kind of magic forbidden by a certain religious text, but the literal definition of the word, the idea that something can be spoken or willed into existence. The Magic that creationists believe in is that the universe exists "Because God says so."

  • "The use of magic is strictly discourage in the bible"

Unless god does it, of course, which is exactly what Aron means.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer God doesnt do magic...

  • Correct; Gods does Miracles; or divine magic.

The witches he wants us to burn do regular magic.

As do the egyptian pharaoh's sorcerers.

But since God created all these - God does use magic.

Its a shame witches are real isn't it? If only they wern't then there would be no magic; and God wouldn't have created it thereby endorsing and "using" it in his divine plan.

  • @ackmonra

Well, there's the egyption pharohs' sorcerors, there is the witch that raises the spirit of the prophet Samuel for Saul.

Then there are giants, ghosts of many kinds, unicorns, dragons, magic items...really, the only difference between the bible and Harry Potter is Harry Potter is the better read!

  • this time let him stay dead please

  • @reuben303998

Well, god never existed in the first place...but, since you believe he does and died once, I have to say, ENCORE!

  • He didn't die - he's not dead.

  • Can we have The Lord of the Rings instead?

Gandalf is much better than Jesus.

He died; returned - helped save the day AND was awesome enough to have BOTH a sword and a staff.

  • @ackmonra

LOL...well, indeed...and it, too, is a better read!

  • "Gandalf is much better than Jesus. "

True, could Jesus defeat a balrog? I think jesus would be too busy turning the other cheek and handing the balrog his cloak and walking stick.

  • Jesus is the balrog's human disguise.

  • Also reuben, god does do magic as;

According to the Oxford English Dictionary

Magic • noun 1 the power of (apparently) influencing events by using mysterious or supernatural forces

That is pretty much god to a tee isnt it, as god makes things by wiggling his nose and touching his little red shoes together and then Poof, its there, or making little dolls out of clay and then imagining REALLY hard that they have life and, BANG, they do. or have I mis interpreted the creation story...

  • I'm going to guess that u didnt actually make those videos, u just uploaded some creationist videos with the same titles as some more popular videos recently uploaded even though they are barely relevant. And these videos rip a lot of film from evolution documentaries, and im guessing without permission. keep it classy!

  • PhD creationists only obtain a PhD in order to seem to have credibility.

if Intelligent design isn't religious, then why are 100% of the proponents of ID religious creationists?

  • @WisdomVendor the reason why Creationists get PhDs are because unless they have a little certified piece of paper that declares they are smart, people won't listen to them.

Intelligent design IS "religious", otherwise it's a contradiction.

  • last night when I came across this set of videos, I had to go to sleep because i had class on the morrow. sleep had to wait lol...... I could not sleep till the whole presentation was over. very inspiring and well delivered as always. keep it up.

  • Wish I could have seen this live.

  • thanks aron great work

    and wow the snow!

    who saw that coming!

  • aronrawks

  • aronra don't get down about how much of your life you've spent on this.

you're improving the world in ways that you couldn't have otherwise.

  • Aron,

The intro to your talk, in this segment, was quite inspiring. I to have a family, and a young child, and have since returned to school in order to complete a degree in research science. Though I am going to do Chemistry research, and not biology, I find your story to be quite similar to my own.

So here's to you, Aron! Thank you not just for the great videos, but also for being an inspiration for me to complete not just an AS or BS, but graduate school, all while having my family.

  • Good start in this opening segment, AronRa. I'm hoping to see you warm up to your subject with the verve and fire that permeates your other YouTube offerings. You are a voice for reason to be reckoned with. I laud your persistence, research, and stage presence.

  • I didn't know you dropped out of high school. Going back to school must've been hard, and in a sense, heroic.

  • AronRA,

Really interesting life story... you're now even cooler to me than you were previously

  • The dog's bollocks... - That's a good thing!

  • PLAY LIST!!!!!! :-)

  • I L♥VE this. Thanks Aron.

How was the entire trip? What was your most memorable part?

  • Hm... he puts abiogenesis on the same level as evolution and the big bang. Have I missed something or isn't abiogenesis still a hypothesis which might be good but couldn't yet create life in the lab? We shouldn't confuse a hypothesis with theories.

  • @PokeRapper5000

I thought the big bang was a hypothesis too?

  • Yes, you have missed something for about 8 months. Google for the article "Lifes First Spark Re-Created in the Laboratory".

  • @PokeRapper5000 What are you getting at? A proposed theory is a hypothesis.

  • Abiogenesis isn't as extensive or well tested a Theory as evolution, but it IS a theory, and it DID happen at least once. The current argument in scientific circles is not whether or not it occurred, but how, where, under what circumstances, and how many times.

  • That sure is an impressive penis you got there Aron. :-P

  • @SmoothInstigator

    How do you know?

  • While English is not my native language I understand every word being said. Just concentrate a bit...

  • can anyone understand a word that is being said? :(

I can't make his words out from the noise

  • @TheGodlessGuitarist Try headphones!

  • Pure awesome!

  • agreed

  • Yeah! The Texas Tank for science!

  • Another theistic myth buried.

  • You were in Ft. Lauderdale? Cool! Did you get to meet Randi?

  • Randi was out of town the day of the event.

  • Excellent lecture. Are you still doing the Atheist experience with Matt?

  • damn, damn. really lookin forward to this but the audio is awful. shame proper arrangements for capturing the signal from the sound board weren't made. but whatever, i guess.

  • Cool.

  • Your intro is pretty inspiring.

  • YouTube doesn't update views instantly, but it does update vote counts.

  • Ratings statistic update automatically, not views.

  • FUCK! JUST FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @joshcena33 , what's the problem? Are you mad at something or playing around?

  • Can't I enjoy ONE video without looking at the comment only to find "500 ratings 301 views, lol votebot hax!"
