  • Everyone who keeps ripping on PJ, shut up.

  • this version sucks so much.. fuck you pearl jam stick to you slow grunge shit and leave punk to the real rebels!

  • @Nick992 You tell them! This will make them fell ashamed they made that cover 20 years ago..

  • @Nick992 You have no taste, no heart, no brain, no life. Go and listen to bullet for my valntine or whatever so called "music" it is you listen to. Oh, and this song ain't punk... too bad...

  • I went from Primus to this. Kind of hard.

  • You are listening to this and you are hating the bitch!

  • OVERKILL

  • @GuileTrolling DEAD BOYS

  • THUG 2 had the Dead Boys version,

THAW had the Saves The Day version,

The next Tony Hawk game needs the Pearl Jam version.

  • -doesn't comment, just headbangs-

  • @Tigerpuffer doesn't comment just air drums wildly..!

  • Why can't Pearl jam release all their early tracks like this in a box set or something?. Lost dogs only had a handful of vintage PJ songs. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who loves classic Pearl Jam (90-95) but does not care much for the majority of their output since. I guess they will continue to drip feed the rare or unreleased early stuff to string us all along. This is a good cover though, and is a live staple for PJ to this day.

  • @SirLokiChuffingtom

The holiday singles have only ever been sent to Ten Club members, and are one of the incentives to join. PJ are therefore unlikely to release them all in a box set anytime soon as it seems like a betrayal to all those fans who paid their membership fees all those years. Needless to say of course that I wasn't a member in 1992! I got the singles from an older fan who was kind enough to burn them off for me :)

  • @TheGargantuanSock What you say is true, but if Pearl Jam released Sonic Reducer, Angel, and other rare tracks on cd, the vinyl singles would still be rare and therefore highly collectable to fans. I guess what I am trying to say is I want all the early Pearl Jam songs in high quality audio in the one conveniant package! Instead it seems we get more live slabs and Ukelele albums. To each their own but Ukelele music is just not Rock'n'Roll to me.

  • @SirLokiChuffingtom

In fairness the Ukelele album was a solo record, though definitely not rock 'n' roll! Perhaps these songs will come out on remastered albums as bonus tracks? There were some great rarities on the Ten reissue for example.

  • @TheGargantuanSock I have the Ten reissue and I think it's great (especially Brother and the unplugged dvd). I've not yet accquired the Vs and Vitalogy reissues but I will soon. I doubt there will be any more reissues forthcoming from PJ, as I doubt many people are waiting for a No Code or Yield remaster, but you never know. I'm guessing you like Ukelele songs, I find it a bit flat but Into the Wild was not bad. I mainly enjoy the 90's PJ. Yellow Ledbetter, State of Love and Trust, Crazy Mary etc

  • @SirLokiChuffingtom

Ukelele Songs was a real suprise for me - didn't expect to like it at all... I guess I should've known we wouldn't get anything too gimmicky or Formbyish from the likes of Ed Ved. Of the earlier albums Vs has always been the one that stands out to me as their masterpiece, not Ten, and I'd rank No Code and Binaural up there with it at least. That said I wouldn't get any reissues - these days I mostly look for interesting live material in their extensive bootleg collection.

  • @TheGargantuanSock I would have to agree with you that Vs is the defining PJ album, as it so diverse, well put together and still had that anthemic quality that Ten had. I've already said I prefer the first 3 Lps but must admit I have a soft spot for No Code, I listened to it a lot when it first came out, Off He Goes is definitely one of PJ's best ballads. Do you have the live Cardiff(6.6.00) official bootleg? It must be one of the few shows where they played Leatherman.

  • @SirLokiChuffingtom

No, but I do have the bootleg from Seattle 2000 and they played Leatherman then.

  • @TheGargantuanSock Hate the reissues that they rerecord both Dave's drums out for Cameron.. Nothing wrong with Matt just my favorite (as a drummer myself) was Dave Abbruzzese.. Loved his version of Sonic Reducer

  • @SirLokiChuffingtom Yeah u just cant recreate that magic and the aura of PJ on the 1st 3 albums.. Nothing against any other cd they have done since..

  • @skoi87 I know, but sadly that hasnt been realized by the punks... Just as real punk means not caring about how you look, most punks dress in leather, peircings and colored spike hair.

And your right its not about violence, but it is a little bit about stupidity, or atleast naiveness. read the lyrics to Dead Boys Aint nothing to do...

  • This is an awful album cover!

  • Don't like this one very much... Overkill's version is the best, in my opinion.

  • Don't like this one very much... Overkill's version is the best, in my opinion.

  • Eddie Vedder's vocal is usually pretty cool - but it fucks up this song!

  • Pearl Jam is amazing, but Overkill rulz \m/

  • i love this cover :)

great song (i like both the original and the covers)

  • does it say sonic reducer at the bottom of the picture? I can't even read it

  • i love pearl jams live version of it. actually wasnt aware it was released on holiday single. damn, i joined 10c one year later - the postcard took so long back in the days :)

  • 60 seconds on the clock. youre goin down and im gonna ROCK

  • Great song ,,lame version Pearl Jam are just no where near pist off enough for real punk.

  • @ohio1968javelin Thats because they "are the machine"

  • @ohio1968javelin Pearl Jams opinions and feelings are deeper and more intelligent than "Hey, im pissed at the world, lets burn someones car and destroy a phone booth!!!"

  • @Ekyvvsaq ,,Yea good point,,But when you play punk either you feel pist off and angry or you end up sounding like this?Watered down version of a very powerful song.Punk rock is not intelligence, its expression and angst.Discover and research the roots of punk, its a good lesson.Pearl Jam are just not angry enough to play punk, and especially this tune.

  • @ohio1968javelin The roots of punk was good. Back then "punk" meant simple. Do you not think The Clash and Ramones are punkrock. and its a pretty aggressive version, although its not "heavy" but I dont think punk should be heavy. If you have heard Spin the black circle, Blood or Life Wasted you might get me...?

  • @Ekyvvsaq Cool ill check it out

  • i thought this had only been performed live and never recorded in the studio.

  • The instrumental is not bad but it kinda bugs me that eddie vedder trys to sing in this song!

  • almost as good as the deAD BOYS..iS THAT A COMPLIMENT OR NOT!!!

  • The Dead Boys actually took Sonic Reducer from their previous band Rocket from the tombs. David Thomas from 'Pere Ubu' co-wrote it with Gene O'Connor.

  • LOL

  • Overkill was the only band that this make song a proud the other cover sux !

  • NICE COVER!

  • Your have your opinions and I have mine. I just think theres some music that should not be done by othere, take Pink Floyd for example, Korn should of never touched that one...theres just some things out there that should be left untouched!

  • better than original.

  • Pearl Jam just doesn't have the punk spirit for this song. They do for some songs, but not this.

  • @emberjed YOu, my friend, are a retard.

  • @emberjed I agree, they dont have the punk spirit, they are not a punkrock band.

  • These drums are pretty kickass, who was the drummer for this release? I'm thinking Abbruzze but its been awhile...

  • 1:50 what the fuck?

  • @skatemental521 wtf LOL that was bad

  • @tarabridegroom

The Dead Boys were very influential but dismally talented in comparison... can't hold a candle to either band.

  • @TheGargantuanSock how are you defining "talent"? the ability to play a guitar solo. thats not what matters here. (not that Cheetah is a bad guitarist) As far as im concerned Any Dead Boys song is better than Any pearl jam song. i even bet pearl jam would tell you the same. there's no talent in that?? do you actively listen to the dead boys? i bet not.

  • @chaos97

I don't 'actively' listen to them no, but I've been exposed to punk music pretty much all my life and do very much like some of the more 'arty' punk acts, like Television and The Only Ones. How would one describe musical talent? Well of fundamental importance are musicianship and songwriting. For both attributes the Dead Boys (and most other punk bands) are leagues behind the likes of Pearl Jam. What defined them and their scene was sheer impact and shock factor, not musical talent.

  • @TheGargantuanSock yea you have no idea what you're talking about brah.

  • @zosothedestroyer

'brah'? Oh dear, there goes any chance of an intelligent debate.

Isn't it hilarious that the majority of people on here will merely dismiss or hurl abuse at anyone who says something they disagree with? No, no it's just mildly irritating... nevermind.

  • @TheGargantuanSock "but dismally talented in comparison... can't hold a candle to either band." Keep hating brah

  • @zosothedestroyer

What a rediculous comment, I suppose you didn't read the comment I replied to.

If I was hating on the Dead Boys I wouldnt have even acknowledged their influence. Obviously you're too narrow minded to discuss this properly, otherwise you would've come up with something cohesive by now. What are you? Some sort of fan boy who can't accept criticism of his favourite bands? Pathetic.

  • @TheGargantuanSock WRONG ASSHOLE

  • @wi11ydapimp

Sorry, I'll try to get the right asshole next time.

  • Leave us (35 deep people) alone, how about that?

  • @tarabridegroom hear hear!

  • @tarabridegroom why man? can it ever just be about respect for the art form that is rock and roll?

  • @tarabridegroom I agree that this cover is weak. I'm not saying that pearl jam sucks, but they really should have left this song alone.

  • @tarabridegroom Pearl Jam don't need to cover anybody to become a great band. They cover so many different artists as a mark of respect. Punk had a massive influence on pearl jam's music and they cover the music they love, respect and that has influenced them, it isn't competitional, it isn't like they're releasing it to make money or gain sales they just love the song, like you do!

  • the singer sounds like he's taking a shit. lame.

  • @zontarianbadtruth this is so much better than the dead boyz original, you must be fucking stupid.

  • @cecsix go paint stars on your doc martins you pseudo intellectual grungewad. stiv would turn in his grave.

  • Just listened to GNR's cover of this (SHUDDERS) This is the best cover i have heard so far. DEAD BOYS!!!

  • Overkill Rules

  • well when i first got into pearl jam in 91, i became a member of their fan club...well needless to say, they sent me a 78' of alive and on the back was sonic reducer...goodness i wish i still had it...it was super cool that they sent that out...so as my kid calls it old music then i guess im old and will hold on to that music alwasy

  • -.-

  • this is the best cover of the song but its just not hardcore enough for the dead boys. no ones got stiv bators voice and no one ever will

  • @MeanGreenMovies eddie vedder has a better voice jajaja :D

  • pear jam's versoin of this song is not bad i like Overkill's verson better but this is good though

  • I'm not crazy about the Overkill version and Saves The Day isn't even worth mentioning... but I think this is a damn good cover.

  • DEAD BOYS!!!

  • the saves the day version sounds better than both to me

  • @jittsaijazz you're a tool! dead boys got 7000 times more balls than faggy ass saves the day

  • @aaronwanker1 OK WHY DOES EVERY BODY KEEP GETTING ON MY NERVES ABOUT WHOS BETTER ITS MY OPPENION I HEARD IT FROM SAVES THE DAY FIRST SO I THINK ITS BETTER ITS MY CHOICE MIND UR BIZ GOOOSH THE WORLDS NOT GONNA END CAUSE I LIKED SAVES THE DAY BETTER

  • @jittsaijazz SAVES THE DAY HAHA YOU FAGGOT

  • @NastyNate099 go fuck yourself asshole i dont care about this song im a black kid and ur lucky i give a shit bout your stupid ass culture of music spam me i dont give a fuck saves the day forever if the war between punk and metal still lives than fuck it im not in it saves the day version rule and theres nothen you can do biiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaatch

  • @jittsaijazz

Let's get something straight here. Everyone's got the right to have their own opinion but no one is 'lucky' because of your music tastes. At the end of the day, no one (on this page at least) really gives a shit what you think.

Also the Dead Boys were a punk band, a real punk band as opposed to Saves The Day who are a pop punk band i.e. a joke.

  • @TheGargantuanSock see though you insulted me alittle but thats wat im sayen y do they reasponed to my opinion leave me alone and let me think wat i think and i wasnt talken bout pearl jam i was talken bout the other band that sings sonic reducer

  • @jittsaijazz

I didn't even mention Pearl Jam! Do you read English as badly as you write it?

  • @TheGargantuanSock ok thats it im done dont say anything else about this just know trash talk online is nothing compaired to the asss kicking id give you if i ever met u hmhm bitch

  • @jittsaijazz

If that's so true then why do you go trolling around YT? Seriously man, grow up... you're making a rather pathetic spectacle of yourself right now.

  • @jittsaijazz

If that's so true then why do you go trolling around YouTube? Seriously man... grow up. You're making a rather pathetic spectacle of yourself right now.

  • @TheGargantuanSock i dont go around youtube to look for stupid things actually like today and yesterday i leave my oppinionated comment and people gotta put there two cents in it i got shit to do i dont have the childishness in me to argue with people over vids id much rather fight about it but watevs im out take the vid and shove it take the comments and shove it leave me alone and go upload some more vids

  • @jittsaijazz People who talk tough online = people who are total bunnies IRL

  • @wormer104 mmhhmm think watever u want but i know im not a game so.........later

  • @jittsaijazz war between punk and metal? lol

  • @jittsaijazz

Your allowed to have your own opinion, I'll concede that. But your opinion is wrong.

  • @theycallmefingers2 oh well its still not gonna change my thought i like punk more than wack ass metal hard rock is better than screaming at the top of your lungs about bullshit like "ill kill everyone on earth" yeah right id chomp their sorry ass in half

  • @jittsaijazz

are you stupid? dead boys IS punk you fool. whered you get this scream metal notion? dead boys was part of the original punk movement, if you dont know that, then you dont like punk you punk.

  • this version sucks!! its so fuckin slow and boring!

    OVERKILL VERSION RULES!!

  • @Crazosk8 Fuck yes. Overkill fucking nailed this.

  • haha Nice I still have the first two holiday single 10 inch records from Debbie at the Ten Club...never thought I'd hear this again! Thanks for the upload!

  • Wait??? I thought OverKill wrote the original version on Feel the Fire?

  • I have four versions of this song in my rec collection: two from the Dead Boys (one studio, one live from 'Night of the Living Dead Boys'), one from the Creemers, and this one, although the original sleeve for it got lost years ago. I must say I have always liked the PJ version (not over the original, of course!). And no scratches either!

  • #OMG A cover you wouldnt expect by an artist like Pearl Jam! XD, I prefer The version from OVERKILL Though

  • wow......words fail me. Music is good, but....yeah.

  • Was good until about 0:29.

  • Cool cover. I really like the way the song works with Pearl Jams thicker sound, compared to the Dead Boys' sound.

  • @mgmads

no, totally different. Look up "The Day the Earth Met" by Rocket From the Tombs

  • @punkrockxzz Huh? What's your point?

  • This was not done by the the Dead Boys first they did a cover of rocket from the tombs

  • @ares122222 dont u mean rocket from the crypt

  • @ares122222

dead boys was made up of rocket from the tomb members, they just changed the lineup a little and their name. so really, it's not a cover.

  • wow this cover sucks compared to the original

  • DUDES! It's Dead boys please.

  • Buzzcocks?!?

  • PJ is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not a Buzzcocks song... a Dead Boys song.

  • Young, Loud and Snotty! Saw 'em live in 78. The assholes in my neighborhood dragged them off the stage and beat them up. Cheetah Chrome put up a valiant fight. So bad The Ramones punked out and woudn't play.

  • At least I am fairly certain it is? I am now second guessing myself. regardless, PJ are the worlds best band..

  • What do the Buzzcocks have to do with anything?
