when did you record this video?.One of the best on the net.i do not read music, but play by ear, and this vid helps a lot.how about " wouldnt it be nice"next.Another great track, Thanks again my friend.
@treelobber -- I made this about 3 years ago. Thanks for the comment. And, yeah, I'd like to do "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (my other favorite Beach Boy song). You've probably heard the a capella clips here on YouTube. Great harmonies on "Wouldn't It..." /watch?v=uGmwksFJpiY
@MrKram12161 -- I'll adjust the Equalization settings, then do the other things I show in the video... like copy the track and offset it slightly with the original, put on some reverb, phaser.
@Blademail626 -- All I know to do is what I mention in the reply at the top. I bring up the "highs" with the Equalizaation effect, copy and paste the vocal track so I have two of them. Put reverb on one, phaser on the other, and experiment. Sorry I don't have more ideas to improve vocals with Audacity... but that's all I got!
See the comment and answer above... about monitoring tracks while recording. Under the "edit" menu, then "preferences", there's a box to check for "play other tracks..." That's the only answer I can think of right now.
well actually that's not multitrack system you are just recording everything separately but still being in R/L interface, a multitrack system is that you record everything at the same time like piano and voice and each one has a different stereo channel.
There's an option in the preferences for "play other tracks while recording...", and that box is usually checked. You'll need to turn off your speaiers and wear headphones if you're recording with a mic. If you're recording an instrument with a "line in", you can leave the speakers on, but the new track might be slightly out of sync with the others. However, you can easily slide it back into sync.
@dvmovie You could ASIO4ALL audio driver in order to correct the latency of the audio. Though the moment i got to use ASIO4ALL i just stopped using audacity...i was using a program named Krystal that allows the use of VST.
you mean that with your guitar sound, on the same track there's a duplicate of your drums... Use headphones so that the mic won't pick up any previous recordings, just the guitar...
sounds odd... You must check your audio settings to see what you are recording... if you are recording something like your internal soundcard stereo it will record everything that plays and makes a sound at the moment of recording... make sure that your recording source is just the input where your guitar is...
Haven't had that problem. Don't know the answer. Lots of variables: cables, mic or line-in inputs?... settings in preferences, recording levels? Keep experimenting, I guess.
@akidbudak123 firstly what mic are you using, if its a cheap 30$ mic then you will get a less exact sound than a studio mic... but it could also be that you are hearing your amp from a different angle that what the mic is picking up, try tilting your amp back and leveling your head with the speaker, youll hear that its alot different from what you hear normally when you play.
@akidbudak123 This may not be the case with your recorder, but often voice recorders sound OK for voice - or good enough for their purpose - but really terrible for music. The difference really can be surprising. I'd check that before anything else.
you answer question the best so far.....but when i try to record lyrics over a recorded track....the recorded track pauses then plays on and off...can u help with that problem
@beyonce50 make sure you havent selected just a portion of the track... click the back button next to the play and record buttons to make sure of this
I just plug my mic into the computer, and that works nicely. I'm not sure about the hearing issue. Try the setting in Edit, Preferences for "play new track while recording".
If you click on "Edit", then "Preferences", then "Audio I/O", you should see the option (checkbox at the bottom). I don't know why it wouldn't be there??
would you happen to remember what type of mic you used to record the vocals or could you suggest a decently priced beginners mic for recording vocals on a pc (with audacity)?
I have a shotgun mic ($300 range) that gets good quality. But a vocal mic for around $100 will work for you. Maybe a Shure? I'm not an expert on that. But the mic cords and adapters is a big factor. Mine sounds best going in as mono. You can record in stereo or mono (settings in Edit /Preferences) but recording in stereo (on just the left or right channel), then copying and pasting to the other one -- as I do in these tutorials -- sounds better than recording the mono. Do lots of tests.
I wanna hear what the whole thing sounds like xD. . . That was a good tutorial and your singing is good. . . It goes well with what you are singing :) . . . Great Tutorial 5 stars^^. . . Helped me alot. . .
whenever I try to record a few different guitar lines on audacity the audio gets really loud and distorted and static-y and I can't figure out why, I'm running my guitar through a digitech rp150 straight to computer.
I don't think the signal is balanced correctly when you plug a guitar straight into the computer. I put a microphone in front of my amp, then plug the microphone into the computer. Seems to work best.
ive been using audacity for about...A month or two...and now all of a sudden when i record something. and the record like... a backing track, or record another riff or fill, my recordins never line up.
Happens to me, too. When you're recording a new track, do you listen to the others over speakers or headphones? This might have something to do with it. Not sure, it's been awhile since I've opened Audacity. They talk about this issue on the Audacity site, I believe. And check any Audacity forums you can find. But you can quickly zoom way in and line up the tracks with the slide tool (as I do in these tutorials).
Hey, how did you get the annoying "pops" off? Anytime I hit "Play" I get a *pop* when it starts playing, and again when it reaches the end of a recording. This is annoying if I start a new track in the middle of the song...everything goes fine until it get to that section and then *pop* as the new track kicks in. I vocal barbershop multitracks...and plan to make a cd for my grandparents...but I NEED those annoying popping sounds gone. Thanks!
Not using any midi. Just coming out of the keyboard with a 1/4" phone jack (like a guitar cord) to a 1/8" mini-plug which goes into the computer's mic input.
Great video, i've been trying to record a song using audacity and your video has opened up a lot of new possibilities to make it sound much better. Thanks!!
how do you record two tracks?
wntersun666 7 months ago
@wntersun666 -- I think you can only record on one at a time. But you can copy and paste... and have two tracks that way.
dvmovie 7 months ago
@dristi2009 - You'll want to get the audio clip into the .wav or .mp3 format, then "Import - Audio" to bring it in to your project.

@dristi2009 Just export your audio as a wav or mp3, then import it into your video-editing software and sync it to anything in there.

Does audacity have a programmed metronome. I have magix music maker 12 but can't seem to locate a damn metronome.

Yes. In the top menus, under "Generate", you can generate a "click track".

I tried recording guitars over a drum track.
The problem was, although I heard the drums only on my headphones, and miced up my amp, the giuitar track included another drum line.
I don't know how to fix that.
Someone know what I mean?

About Audacity, I want to record guitars onto it, but I would like to pan the guitars to make one in each ear. Can Audicity do this?
Also, is it able to convert what you recorded into an mp3 file?
DontRunBand 2 years ago
There's a "Pan" slider at the head of each track.
If you click on File, you'll see "export wav" and "export mp3". You need a (free) plugin to export mp3. They explain this in the Help Menus.

The way i usally do it, is i put my mic in front of my amp, then the mic is leading into a sound mixer, then that into my computer.
Do you need to do that?
Also when i am recording with my keyboard plugged into my computer I cant hear what i am actually playing. How do I solve this problem??
