and the blu ray laser is not blu but more violet.

we see it blu bacause our eyes don't have light cones for shorter wavelengts.

@gangstar1771 nm stands for 'nanometer' which refers to the wavelength of the laser. Different wavelengths correspond to different colors (650nm is red, 473nm is blue...etc). mW stands for milliWatts, and refers to the power output of the laser. What a laser can burn depends on this, and may be different for each wavelength. Visibility on the other hand, depends again on how powerful the laser is and the focal point. (a laser focused to infinity will have much farther range than one that isnt)

I think your getting a little confused there, a blue laser will always be extremely expensive as it is orginally a high power IR diode which then is carefully passed through various crystals to give out a 473nm blue wavelength. A blu-ray laser is a 405nm laser and is actually closer to violet than blue, and will not be so expensive as the diode it's self emits the colour. As for a red laser they are the most cheapest as you can get a 200mw red diode from a dvd drive in your computer.
