Sorry, but I occasionally skip this part when I watch the movie... too much Phillipe. However I DO like watching it because ya get the thrill when the presence of Erik comes back in the movie! :)
poor Erik! christine goes off questioning her sexuality with some lesbian-looking douchebag she used to be a slave for and leaves Erik all alone XD damn life sucks!
Still gets to me every time when she leaves him, he is human. Granted he may not look it but he is and there is no reason not to treat him like a human being with feelings
phillipe is an f-tard, a fop and all together just a douche. This Erik is the most canon I've ever saw, he has a heart, he talks, he's nice, he's reasonable and he has a sense of humor.
....If you've missed her....shouldn't you at least remember her? Phillipe is such a douche-bag... and Christine is such an idiot for choosing him when her true soulmate is right in front of her....
Ok, so I have been searching for this song for a long time now. Thanks for the name of the song! However, I would like to buy it somewhere! Who is the composer? I have looked everywhere! This is such a beautiful song!!!!!
I know! I was totally into the fact that the movie was almost the same, but then this chase scene happens. Literally I was like WTF this makes no sense! Because people think the bad person must die a violent death, can't they just leave Erik alone! I would absolutely die of happiness if they did a movie that stayed true to the book. Our crazy Erik and a blonde Christine! You just don't see her now a days because of the musical. Tish a shame
Same here, I thought the exact same thing as you and I was disappointed. But supposedly they had the original ending in the movie (Christine leaving and Erik dying of a broken heart) But audiences didn't like it for some reason. They thought Erik dying of a broken heart wasn't interesting enough so they had him chased by a mob. . . well . . . ya. But there are pictures on google of Lon Chaney lying over his piano, dying, from the original cut and I personally love it! Just a fact for ya :)
@Deadlysoprano16 Re: Phantom of the Opera. Did the Phantom in the book actually kill anyone? The movie endings may have had to do with the moral codes of the times, i.e. a murderer could not go unpunished.
@TheShirEl Yes he killed joseph bouquet at the beginning. It is also clear that he killed several people during the "rosy hours at masenderan". In persia he was a sort of freak show for the princess who enjoyed watching him kill people.
When the chandelier falls it kills one person who was taking Madame Giry's place after the managers fire her.
It is also possible he killed Count Phillipe but this is not verified. (and personally I dont think he did
@Deadlysoprano16 Thank you; it more or less substantiates my guess.
If you are interested in things "Phantom" an interesting adaptation is the 1974 "Phantom of Lot 2" aka "The Phantom of Hollywood". There's only "Phaonto of Hollywood Review Part 1" and 2 here. The reviewer saw fit to pan it, but I enjoyed the original very much at the time. Also: Wikipedia: Phantom of Hollywood.
I like this version but I hate that no one can seem to just make a movie that corresponds with the book and doesn't make any changes to the storyline itself.
Will someone please tell me why they changed Raoul's name to that of his older brother? In the book, Phillipe seems to represent wisdom and experience as a Raoul's childishness and naïveté, so why change the name?
What sweet a melody this song has!It is a pitty it does not exist in record or a CD...I love this scene of memories with the kids. The girl looks alike older Cristine!...And this walk trough the wood in the little lake.Like a romantic drawing!
In this version, I may have chosen Erik, I guess, because he's one of the least insane and murderous of all of them. But in the novel, Raoul is sweet and genuinely afraid for Christine, who is genuinely afraid of Erik. In the book she's not really in love with him, but is fond of him and pities him.
I think it's the actress that made Christine look sorta like a bimbo in this version...
The song in the video is Laissez-moi Planter le Mai. Unfortunately, there's no record of who wrote it.
It's too bad that the girl singing doesn't enunciate. It would have made it easier for me to recognize the French, which I used to find the name of the song. XD
wenever I hear the can can song they play I always think of Moulin Rouge lol "So exciting! the audience will stomp and cheer, So delighting! It will run for 50 yrs!"

Oh I know. when i saw the 1925 version i was so excited and then kaputt the end happens and it was like "did you have to do that"
Honestly as far as keeping true to the end of the story (in my mind the most important part) lloyd webbers version wins
