No, some religious folks were trying to convince people (themselves included) that Jesus was comin back in 2000. There was also the Y2K threat but once that was acknowledged it was easily dealt with. It was not like it is with this, with multiple civilizations talking about the date and there also being some cosmological occurrences.

I mean, who knows, maybe nothing will happen but this is not like with 2000. That was just westerners getting all excited about even numbers.
