I just bought a 589 mine looks like that except mine has an aluminum zipper instead of snaps, no attachments though :-C It's built like a nibble tank.
Also i can't quite tell if its the beater bar making the noise or the motor, but when you start it up I hear a distinctive whine and its not supposed to be doing that.

The Model 589 was produced between 1969 and 1971.

@goob67896 : right i did hear a whine when starts up, but when warms up sound goes away.
