Yeah that was sweet! Reminded me of my Friends '74 Imperial Coupe. Car was original right down to the 8 tracks! Man we had one smooth ride back after a dube, some Elton John, Beatles, and other fitting 70s tunes! Too bad that Chrysler went west.
"You know you want it." Damn right I want it. Oh, I want one!!!!! But, I can't afford it so I have to do the next best thing--watch videos and go for virtual "rides" in other cars. Thanks for the ride. That is one sweet car.
I used to own one. Mechanically, it was not a great car. It had constant electrical problems and the Lean Burn system was a poorly-engineered headache. However, it was a pleasure to drive and was stunningly beautiful. Mine was Golden Fawn.
Agreed, I had nothing but trouble with the lean burn system, engine timing was a disaster. Motor also had nylon timing gears, they would all eventually skip a tooth and have to be replaced with an iron set of gears.
damn i miss that sound of that 440! we had a 1977 Chrysler NewYorker Brougham 2 door. black inside and out! it was owned by the vice president of Chrysler corporation! that thing would run 120 and still picking up speed!!! we used it till it fell apart! and sold it for scrap. i would love to have another one! it road like a dream! cool car!
Haha thats why I stopped driving my grandaddys and retired it to the farm. I use it almost every weekend. Anywho I am such a cheap fucker I replaced it a month later after I got my license and got a hybrid and never bought another full gas vehicle again. LOL
I agree with max. This is one of the most beautiful American cars EVER made.
I sold Chryslers in 1981 when the K Cars (reliant & Aries) first came out, and my demo wasn't ready yet. I was given my choice of ANY used car on the lot. I chose a '78 New Yorker Brougham, maroon, with maroon top & maroon leather interior. There was a button on the floor to change the radio station. 440 4 BBL engine. It sucked gas like it grew on trees. I loved it. Fantastic automobile. Better than some Rolls.
I literally have the same car. Same color same year same interior.. I bought in 2003 for $800. It was my high school car. Alot of good memories... my buddies used to call the seats couches.. haha Thanks for the video.
look at that fine carethean leather* dave said that* ^_^ i want that car hahaahha would make the kids at the high school shit them selfs when if they saw this car wish u=i had my lisecens i have a permiter but its fun to think about it.
For klavers: I don't think you understood me. Chrysler dropped the Imperial name. They then called what was really an Imperial, a New Yorker. What had been the New Yorker, they then called it a Newport. They moved their names around. Look at their '74 and '75 cars.
Actually, the car is an Imperial. In 1976, Chrysler dropped the "Imperial" name from their line, and from then on, called the "Imperial" a New Yorker. From then on, they called what was actually a New Yorker, the "Newport". The car in this video is really an Imperial.
The particular car in this clip isn't a Imperial.....look at the badges it reads newyorker on the front fender ,decklid and brougham on the C-pilar,and the imperial have his specific marker light on the rear fenders and the design of the rear window or backlight is different as New Yorker.
Yes, Vintage, all fullsized chryslers used the 727 trans. I have always been a fan of big chryslers and owned a few. Latest one is a 78 NY brougham 2 door that my son and I are restoring.
All time classic---I tell you what, these cars will become VERY valuable in the future--todays disposal cars suck completely--the old american muscle is something real and this here is very (!) sophisticated, even by european design standards,
