I think it's absolutely gorgeous the way Chris seems to have a pleading desperation kind of sound in his voice here. It makes the song sound so much more sad, but it's still so beautiful.
Chris looks/sounds so nervous in this performance. His voice is a little shaky, whereas in other videos where he is loose and talking with the crowd his voice is very projective and full. There's just the slightest hesitance in his voice here, but this is still the best live version on youtube by far.
Im reading 'Roadie, my life on te road with coldplay' - and the author talks about this gig as a defining moment in coldplays history. It awesome to read about this moment then to see it and totally agree with what he says. Even though Ive sen this clip a million times before
Ok..? Its quite weird how some people here are going on saying, oh I'm a huge coldplay fan and i've liked them from the beginning. And then say how shit viva is, Which it obviously isn't. If you're a huge fan then you like them. Viva along with all their other albums are amazing in their own right. Everyone has their favourites, yes. But that does not mean that the other records are shit. .... I should stop rambling D: Btw, truly amazing performance!
i agree with you xoOMFGox..i like every single one of coldplays songs and albums..and i love to sing along with every song they have, like (your love means everything) (easy to please) and(where is my boy) with faultline...=]
funny enough none of the songs uv listed r in viva la vida. Its not a bad album, just different. Befor there songs seemed to be sad but yet hopeful. I find viva la vida really dark, scary even, without much hope. I think the fact he sings on a lower register most of the time contributes to it. All in all if Viva la vida was the only codplay album, id rather listen to that than any other music
funny you should say that, because I consider Viva La Vida a return to the parachues/arobtth era after the departure that was X & Y. A great album, but some somgs on it really watered it down. Chris even said he wishes he could go back and take 3 songs of. he said an album should be no longer than 42 minutes lol
Jesus lookin' at this makes me depressed. What ever happened to tat once great band since rush of blood. Nowadays they're too busy trying to be different and not naturally gifted songwriters!!... what a shame
I KNOW. This is MY Coldplay. Coldplay true true fans since the beginning (like me since Safety EP) knows that Coldplay are too mainstream and fabricated now, we love them but we wish it was like this.
I couldn't of said it better myself. A Rush of Blood I think was def. their peak; I'd wish they'd return to that. Viva shows glimpses of it with Violett Hill (great) and Cemetries of London. X&Y was just a big joke.
"Viva La Vida" is probably the least commercial mega-record in the last decade that wasn't made by U2 or Radiohead. How the heck do you call these songs "commercial":
Cemeteries of London
Lost!
42
Violet Hill
Death And All His Friends
Those are some of the least commercial songs any mega band has put out in ages. The exact opposite is actually true - they've pushed the envelope further and further away from "commercial" with each album...
i got to agree with you man, rush of blood was amazing, x and y great, people just look past it because.....idk..too many anthems...if thats even possible..haha. and viva la vida the single prolly the most unique sounded rock song of the decade, and the whole album sold well, but really didnt get that much commercial coverage, and i really think they havent gotten enough credit. with viva la vida, they made so many new sounds and (which most bands cant do) and still managed to go 7x platinum
@rogerramjett I cant believe he called them commercial
There nothing out there that sounds like Viva La Vida or the rest of the album. what i think hes trying to say is they're going in a different musical direction so he thinks that means they're songs sound more commercial which is ridiculous.
If anything their early songs sounded more commercial since they sounded like a lot of other bands to
personaly i think you're perfectly right viva la vida is too commercial and popular, listen to the pure sound you can find on parachutes and appreciate it! it's an album close to the paradise and to the perfection
god freaking damnnnnnnit they used to be incredible. whoever mixed this audio made this performance sound better than it has ever sounded anywhere else. so much energy
i wish i would have seen them in the early 2000's because i miss their old sound but i probably wouldn't have really remembered it. i was 9 this year

@rogerramjett Please dont compare Coldplay to Radiohead. Two great bands but they are miles apart musically. Lets just not go there...
