Absolutely masterful interpretation of the piece. For me, three conductors are best for Mahler, Bruno Walter, Otto Klemperer, or Sir John Barberolli. Thanks for posting.

Never was so much beauty to be found in a human voice than from that of Kathleen Ferrier. We are so fortunate that we can still hear these wonderfull Mahler recordings with Bruno Walter - jus as if she is singing them for us today

Many singers have attempted this song of farewell, but it has taken an English contralto, Kathleen Ferrier, to project the true spirit of this tragic and moving work. How she has achieved this is a miracle, since this has only occurred after her meeting with the conductor, Bruno Walter. When one considers her career was very short, approximately 10 years, her masterful interpretation and unique musicality fills the listener with awe. The beautiful timbre of her voice is like no other.
