I was very lucky to see Pat Metheny in at Manchester Apollo, in about 1991, and after the show he came into the foyer to sign his autograph for a fair old number of us. Very polite gentleman. I got him to sign the concert ticket I had, and its now framed!
@fendweller Pat came outside to greet a small group of fans, shortly after a show a few years back. He seemed sleepy, so he was brief, but he thanked us for showing up. Doing this almost day in and day out has got to take its toll on a person. I don't know how he keeps it up, but I'm sure glad he does!!
@fendweller I'm sure quite a lot has changed for Pat in the 25 years since this interview was conducted. He's that much older, he's recorded a lot more music and is much better known in part thanks to the internet and Youtube and he doesn't need to hob-nob with the crowd as much as he did when he was younger. It happens with every musician once they become a celebrity..

I'm in Los Angeles, and I've never tried to get back stage with the band. It simply never occurred...I always picture security and whatnot.

I've tried talking to the band after the gig and I've mostly been shooed away by the venue staff. Other times, Pat just hasn't come out.
