Grant was in command of the Union Army that invaded the western half of the Confederacy. The Confederate Generals in the were mediocre at best, so Grant whose tactics were a little better than mediocre won. Lee was destroying the Union in battle throughout the eastern half of the CSA. Lincoln thought he would have to surrender. A bad move on one of Lee's commanders lost Gettysburg. Before you make false statements on youtube, you should learn your history. ;)

But there was mediocre CSA commanders in the West where commanders such as Grant, Sherman, and Thomas, unlike McClellan and Hooker (etc.) were willing to take risks and apply Union advantages to CSA weaknesses. The CSA, whether we like to think so or not, lost the war because they lost the fight, not because they were inherently doomed. They lost the fight because of mistakes in leadership.

@c44miles Grant's tactics were a heck of a lot better than a little better than mediocre. And, Lee was the one who lost Gettysburg. He ordered Pickett's charge, He ordered Longstreet to attack Federal troops at the round tops (Longstreet wanted to move around to flank). Lee, while normally brillant, without question made the decisions that lost the battle. No Subordinate (except maybe Ewell and Stuart) can be blamed for the loss of the battle.

When you would like to play an ACW campaign, choose the ETW one.

When you play multiplayer battles, choose this one here for NTW.

@Musikkingofthecookie The Yellow Rose of Texas is the songs title it was orignally written in honor of a formor slave who aided the Texans in there revolution be distracting the General of the Mexican army while the Texans mobilized there militias.

Just under 1000 Texans attacked the Mexican army while it rested catching the Mexicans off guard.

The battle lasted 18 minuits and hundreds of Mexicans were killed the rest were captured. Texans suffered less then ten fatalities.

THIS would be an interesting game. They can't really capture all the nuance that each side had going for them (that's impossible for any of the games) but it would still be pretty sweet to see the battles of Bull Run or Gettysburg from the perspective.

@SKFD68 Fought harder? In case you did not know, all the industrial facilities were up North, the south had little more than agriculture to support the war effort. The North won because of their superior technology and numbers. As for leaders the South had far better Generals, look at the Union army, they had about half a dozen different commanders that were removed before Grant finally took command. No sir I don't want to hear a word about fighting harder.

Lee freed his slaves after inheriting them from his father but US Grant's wife Julia Dent Grant owned slaves and they kept their slaves till the end of the war and some Northern generals kept and owned slaves till 1868 after the Civil War.

@MrARKWILD Oh, sure. One game, Rome Total War, had it's own show on the History Channel called "Ancient Battles" during the late 90's. My dad, who is in his late forties, plays my Rome Total War game, but he prefers the U-Boat simulation series Silent Hunter. @MrARKWILD This game is Napoleon Total War, this video is of a War of Northern Aggression mod that will be released later this year, which you can download off of the internet. You'll at least need a Windows 7 and probably a good graphicscard. But, you can always settle for less and get Rome Total War, which is probably the best.

@RebelSoldat1 You can hardly call the Total war games, complicated, in ANY way shape or form, they are very simplified for the common folk. Though mods do tend to be able to be very technical, i dont find any possible way to consider any total war game too hard to play. They have a big crowd to consider, and usualy expect modders to make the complicated shit (apart from etw, ntw, stw, as they are perdy much unmoddable for the most part)

I walked that battlefield two months ago and saw the blind spot from the Confederate positions at the sunken road,it will be great seeing it in CG.
