  • that susan was so dam hot.

  • I used to watch this show when I was a kid of 7-8 and a bunch of us kids would then get together in the neighbor kid's basement, put on the album and mim the songs with real and pretend instruments he had down there...a drumset and toy guitar from Sears and a tabletop for the keyboard. I'm 48 now and haven't heard this song in about 30 years at least but I still remembered the chorus :)

  • the golden oldies are the best

  • Good song. Dig those olive green ovens in the background. All the early 70s rage. :-)

  • the best partridge family song...in 25 words or less...great episode which this song came from...written by rupert holmes...pina colida song guy!!

  • don't like'

  • When I was growing up...My phone number was Cherry Hill 7444 If people missed dialed we often got calls for a local Tavern..

  • The title of this song should read "ECho valley 2-6809." That's old-time phone exchange code or parlance.

  • @Tre404 ...which in today's terms would be 322-6809.

  • whatever happened to long hair? EVERYBODY looks better--hell, Captain Picard--looks better with long hair!!!!

  • so true innocence blessed

  • This song needs to be re-uploaded. The vocals are way in the background. The mix needs to bring them up front.

  • I have said this in many posts I was born in the late 60's and grew up in the 70's and 80's . Innocence wasn't just lost but you figure it was the flower child generation music I prefer the music of 70's and 80's just because it was better then the stuff that today's generation listens too. Give me the Partridges any day over the garbage that is out there today.

  • @ruthietoothie68 I'm with you, Other then today's technology, I hate everything modern.

  • this song is so great all of the songs david sings are really great the best singer and for sure best looking guy then and now

  • This is the "Mr. Telephone Man" of the 70s! :-)

  • these clips are from the episode " Can't Get It For You Retail"

  • AMEN!! Music is lost .... we need a new generation to bring it back!!

Those were innovative times for music as well as many other things. But boy has music died. Just like the song says Bye Bye Miss American Pie, drove my chevy to the levy,...you know the rest!

  • I remember joining there fan club and buying the cd and just playing these songs and wanting to be married to David Cassidy. My first crush

  • "I've never been much for writing, cause what do you say to a dream that's dying?" That's a great line - just the way he says it, too! =)

  • Is it true that David and Shirley...well, you know????!!!!

  • @angusthethird Uh, no. They were step-mom and step-son. Shirley had once been married to David's father, the late actor Jack Cassidy, so they definetly never. . .well, you know!

  • @weightfeather1 I read in Jack Cassidy's bio something about him that David discovered after he died.

  • @angusthethird I hightly doubt it as Shirley Jones is his step mother.

  • @angusthethird NO! You're probably thinking of the rumors about Florence Henderson and Barry Williams on the Brady Bunch. LOL!

  • I still have three of there Lps and an old record player to play them.I loved these songs growing up!

  • I agree Treaty - I had their cassette tape and I used to look forward to cleaning my room so I could listen to them - I remember a couple of songs big time, but would like to refresh my memory on their other good ones

  • OKAY..these songs all pull at my heart strings...JUST great memories...

I STILL remember the phone number of my best friend in JR HIGH...

  • :)_2_Thumbs up from a big fan.

  • my favorite of all the PARTRIDGE FAMILY songs.

  • Gotta love Keith ( David Cassidy!) His hair is so much better than Susan Dey's! I mean, seriously! He was gorgeous in every way!

  • I have their records still. I once wrote a letter to the Partridge Family telling them that I would wait in my yard for them to come and pick me up because I wanted to join then. Unfortunately, they were no longer active at that time and my letter was returned. :( Such memories I have of this show. Thank you for posting!

  • OMG the best part of my week back then was watching the Brady Bunch followed by the Partridge family! I would wait all week for these two shows. Such a great time, and i still enjoy watching them over and over they never seem to get old!!!

  • Hmm i noticed something... Listen to Liz Phair's "Extraordinary"... The part after the chorus ("Average everyday sane psycho") sounds eerily similar to the chorus of this song. Probably just a coincidence. Just thought it was kinda cool.

    This song is great btw.

  • so soothing and beautiful...love ya David

  • Hey - my time machine is leaving for the year 1970.....anyone care to join me?

  • @1groovyguy I sure do! I was 16, wow, how things have changed....

  • I love the innocence and the groovy bubblegum music of the partridge family ! It reminds me of my childhood and its sad the youth of today don't have this type of thing on tv !

  • Well I'm 42 years old and I remember the pf. I wanted to be just like Keith Partridge lol. He was handsom and all the girls liked him. what memories.

  • Mmm...David was so cute back then!

  • One of many great song he did back then.

  • Thanks Shirley for making Shaun such a pretty boy! We're eternally grateful!

  • This song is co-written by Rupert Holmes.

  • I'm 49 and yes there is some innocence lost. I just love that first line.... we grew up together.......I feel sorry for the kids today that didn't experience the 70's and 80's...

  • I am 49 as well...I agree with you about feeling sorry for the kids today who did not get to experience what you and I did...I have 5 kids, they laugh when I show them these videos. My heart still skips a beat when I watch the flashbacks, and listen to the music, and yes, such a more innocent time! :-)Want to go back to it sometimes, know what I mean?

  • @NeverLetGo1970s

The 70s were not only a more innocent time BUT A More Talented TIME!!!

  • @NeverLetGo1970s I'm also 49 and this song brings back so many wonderful memories. My son is 19 and he enjoys listening to my cd of The Partridge Family. He has his favorite songs downloaded onto his Ipod.

  • @Wheat001 I know what u mean Wheat.

  • @Wheat001 Yes I loved this show so much!! I too am 49 and glad I grew up during the 70's. Oh I so loved the 70's and 80's!!!!---I'm right there with ya babe!!

  • @Wheat001 i SO agree with you. i tell my 22 year old son, i wish you could have somehow experienced it first hand, impossible as that would have been. i'm 53 and feel that the 70's and 80's were an exalted time above all others.

  • @Wheat001 I couldn't agree more. Music just hasn't been the same since then.

  • @Wheat001 I agree, I wish that I could have grown up during the 1960s and the 1970s. Times were more simpler, easier, innocent and pop culture was better.

  • Wow...I think bittersweet about sums it up. PF memories and memories of the time frame are pretty sweet. It's the retrospect that's a bit bitter now.

  • I've rediscovered the Partridge Family just recently. Loved the whole concept of the show, and loved the songs, too. Brings back many memories!

  • heard this just today after many years, now at 44 years of age it stopped me in my tracks and memories long forgotten came rushing back as well as old feelings. have we changed that much?? have we lost that much inocence?? If we knew then just how good we had it would we be different today?? a textbook example of bittersweet memories.

  • WINDWALKER: I'm 40, and was just a few years old when this was out; I recall thinking in my little kid mind that this song was sad -- I didn't understand the words (even though I sang them all) but I could sense the melancholy, and I always loved this song and kept it in my head. Having not heard it in decades, I was so amazed that I could still sing all the words right along with Dave. I was probably 6 or 7 last time I heard it! Great song... and I still get that sad feeling when I hear it.

  • I just thought this was always a great song. David Cassiidy has a great voice.

  • one of the best songs by them is, WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE,

they do a great job, i was surprised!!

i grew up with a big crush on David! still love the

    music. thanks see ya bye

  • Dont laugh people, but when this song came out I really tried to call this number, to find David Cassidy...Partridge Family I watched every week. To see a new xong.

  • So what happened when you tried calling the number?

  • @blbeachgoer it kept telling me please check the number and area code message #error 675 then i tried to scramble the #s and change areacodes. My mother was furious at the phone bill, lol

  • quite the cotrary sir ...pf had a TON of OUTSTANDING songs written and performed by some of the best songwriters and studio musicians on the planet...I grew up with them and to this day play drums and guitar because of them ..for some reason my hair is still long too ....:)

  • True, true, true.

But, "Echo Valley 2 -6809" was the only Partridge Family song that I liked!

  • really ??? wow ..that is a surprise ...i read your profile and you like just about all the tunes that i do ...what about rainmaker or point me ...albuquerque ? i am now almost 46 and pf was my absolute fav way back when ..then the monkeys ...hermans hermits, and somehow it all evolved into yes , little feat ,the dead ,and way too many more to name ...oh well , to each his own ....regards to ya...

  • you obviously don't know much partridge family.

  • When I found out it wasnt a really number, I grabbed my albums and penned in the teeth on their faces, etc. and added crazy stuff too. I do regret it now..I was 8 or 9 yrs old at the time, but they were phenominal.

  • @thebusybees LOL That's FUNNY!!!!...You really got them! I gotta warn you....I saw David Cassidy several years ago - and he got the black stuff off his teeth. Damn...huh?

  • i was named after daivid c.

i was born in 1971..my sis was nutz over david...i grew up listening to all his music

and these songs are pure & sweet

how sad things are so diff now..

    peace

  • I do think the song is cheesy - I prefer "Together (Having a Ball)" - but when I hear "You have reached a disconnected number," amidst those ooo-ooohs and the rising horns, it gets to me.

  • Danny Bonaduce should have stayed a kid.

  • Sumerkis38, thanks for the tip, I will try Best Buy. There is one close by, I love cd hunting.

  • I would love to find the cd with their biggest hits. I have David Cassidy's cd with some of the hits and new music, but would love to own the Partridge Family's music. Even though this was a made up band for television, their music was really good.

  • Try Amazon or Best Buy

  • @Treaty4 Keeping it alive with my kids. They all play music and LOVE the 70's music!

  • @Treaty4 There IS a CD like this. I used to have it. It has all their hits, as well as some albums favourites...

  • @Treaty4 i got mine from columbia house! i had their second album and wanted it in CD because back then the record was warped but it still played but i needed it in cd because records are out and they make no more needles in case mine broke! i didnt wanna lose partridge family forever so i glad i found it on columbia house

  • @Treaty4 If you are interested, you could try ITunes Store.

  • Such a simpler time

  • "I SHOULD A CALLED THAT NUMBER" !!!

  • in response to ngfxoxo:

i'm not embarrassed for my love of david cassidy's music - i bought his albums at the same time as my led zep albums.

years later i still love a lot of different styles of music - from patsy cline to beach boys, 80s dance and pop and i love metal - AND I STILL LISTEN TO DAVID CASSIDY and i don't hide it! lol

  • The guy can sing, I still think he is very talented. Like you I used to hide my PF albums when ever anyone came over and made sure my Led Zep and CCR albums were seen...Heck when I was 10 I had a huge crush on Susan Dey...and just wanted to sing like DC, and have his hair! (hey in 1970 that hair was COOL)

  • actually, i never hid my albums. the first records i ever bought as a kid were david cassidy and then i bought a led zeppelin and john entwistle's whistle rymes - had quite an array of varied artists that set my musical tastes in motion. love a lot of them!

the funny thing is that even as a kid, i sensed that there was more to that david cassidy portrayed as keith on tv and read any books or articles i could on him. then i find out decades later, my intuition was right all along. :D

  • perfect answer I feel the same way

  • These really are good songs, well perfomed. This is one of the best, of many solid songs. Is this a Don Kirchner production, as well? He really knew how to pick songs, back in the day.

  • Beautiful song - I still love the PF and listen to them, thanks to CDs and youtube. I miss good shows and music from them and groups like the Osmonds, as you can tell, I miss the 70s!

  • Comment removed

  • that voice is recorded natural. There is no effect whatsoever. Theres a little reverb, thats all.

  • Great song. Some of those pictures transported me right back to childhood. I was a huge fan of the PF. Only David and Shirley actually sang on the tracks, as far as I know, with additional backing singers. I also don't think any of the kids played the instruments they appeared to play, though I could be wrong. But who cares. :-) Love the sound. And I so want that bus!

  • David Cassidy was a pretty hot chick back in the day.

  • Used to love PF - my alliance quickly switched to The Osmonds BUT I still bought Davids singles.....

This is one of all time fav songs. Thanks

    xxx

  • I love the song all their songs Parthridge Family...David Cassidy & Sherly Jones I miss you so much ...come back.Love You .I remember by Sisters out there FIDES & GRACE MAGISA HI ILOVE YOU SIS.!....Ate Susan here

  • Shirley Jones!

  • the ultimate MILF. I'm pretty sure I knocked out a couple to her.

  • I have had this song in my head since I was 8 years old and I STILL find myself humming it! Some of their music was really pretty although I find it embarrassing to admit it. I am a closet PF fan for life I am afraid!

  • Come out of closet!! The PF are one of the best pop music bands in pop music history!!!

  • HAHAHAH well actually, alot of their songs are really great! I don't know who wrote them or who, besides David Cassidy, actually played and sang them.

Hey I am a closet Bay City Rollers fan too, should I come out there too or stay put? :)

  • Actually, I liked the Bay City Rollers songs too! Not in the same league as the PF, but nice.

  • Hmm I think there are more of us than we realize. Secret fans of bands we feel embarrassed to like, but I can't really explain why. I think this is where it ends with me though, for some reason it is still cool to like the Jacksons or other retro 70's music. Thanks for the welcome out, woohoo, I can breathe! :)

  • my fav song david was my idol back in the day

  • This was actually a pretty good song...Loved the show...Still waiting for season 3 to come out on dvd...

  • Just wanted to let you know..... I just heard that the third season is now out!

  • Yes thanks...I was waiting and already pre-ordered it...Now hopefully the 4th season comes out quicker.

  • Yeah....I don't know why they waited nearly two years to release season three! Maybe season four will be out by Summer of 09' By the way, I see David Cassidy is singing alot of these songs at his concert.....I guess they grew on him or he finally figured out that his fans loved 'em. Just too bad simple but entertaining shows don't make it on the T.V screen these days. My kids love these 60/70's shows we grew up with.

  • SOZ BOUT MY SPELLING!

  • Wonderful trip down memory lane. David had such a traumatic childhood. Where is he now?

  • really up against it. just come out as an alcholic!!!!!!!! we're all with him tho!

  • Are you sure about that? I know he went through a rough time in the 80's, but he's now happily married to Sue and very happy from what I've heard. Just because he's 'come out' as an alcoholic that doesn't mean he's currently drinking! Maybe you should get your facts right before making such a sweeping statement!

  • oh ye, sent you a private message with the link to DAVID's own statement - no comment!?

  • I've always loved this song, am 38 yrs old and still listen to it to this day...great lyrics, music & singing...can't beat that! An earlier poster asked about this being a phone number. Back in the days before your standard 555-1212 format, the first two numbers were represented by words (for memorization purposes?) and the first letter of each word would correspond to the number on the person's phone...so in this case, E=3 and V=8, giving you 382-6809...at least I think that's how it went.

  • The memories, actually brought a tear to my eye. They can't make TV shows today, crime drama trash and reality TV, real creative? Great song, David Cassidy had a good voice, I think Hal Balne was on drums, good musicians played on those tracks.

  • This takes me back! It was written by Rupert Holmes who also wrote "The Pina Colada Song." I much prefer this one. :)

  • Echo Valley 26809....is a phone number?

  • Why aren't these on TV Land????

And my favorite show from the 60's... Mission Impossible.

  • for teresa

  • I recall this was a real centerpiece of the "Sound Magazine" album; the buzz was all about this song. I remember ABC used it in their commercials to promote the 1971-72 season.

A person will be doing something in his or her day...anything...life progresses...and after 37 years, it will come right back to you, as clear as if it were yesterday afternoon: "But I just got to know, if you're still mine." An old friend. I've missed this tune.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Its funny how our minds work. If we haven't heard a song in many many years, and then you hear it and you haven't forgotten the words =)

    Great memories!

  • @SumerKis38... So very true! You've literally heard it "in your head" for decades, and then when you actually hear it play physically, it's just as you've been hearing it all this time, each lyric, every part of the instrumentation, all of it! It's an incredible thing...

  • @33Mark221 Still have that album.

  • @33Mark221 Still have that album. Wish I still had my lunchbox.

  • What a gorgeous, stunning song.

  • I used to be so in love with David Cassidy. My uncle took my best friend and I to his concert. We wore our best long "granny" dresses. I had a huge poster of him on my bedroom wall. Now I am in love with David Cook and I am 47 yrs old. Man I am weird.

  • ...You have reached a disconnected number...

  • I love David Cassidy forever....I love this song:)

  • great song--Partridge Family of course!!

  • Thanks for letting me share this. :)

  • Awesome vid. I like the song you used. 5 stars all the way.

  • Thanks!

  • Sure thing.

  • one of my fave songs from the b side of the album... love it... thanks...

  • I have this album, I got for Christmas when I was 8!I still listen to it!

  • GREAT SONG!

  • i love the 70's. Best song from David Cassidy.

  • Thank you for another great slideshow. this episode is funny too. I love how makes a big fuss over the pickle and steals it. then he get blamed but responds i don't like pickles. :)
