  • 8 hours of sunlight will remove 99.9% of viruses, bacteria and I think fungi.

  • @needparalegal I don't have 8hrs fool!

  • @needparalegal True. But wouldn't some of the water be gone?

  • i myself make it a habit to carry a filter that removes cyst as well as bacteria but not 100%, love to see that technology and chlorine dioxide product for the viruses and remaining bugs (tablets or drops).

being in the wilderness with at least diarhea is not a plan i make, it is the opposite, to be fully hydrated the whole time, and sometimes my water gets boiled too, i loved hot tea.

  • It is often best to use multiple methods as just one method, such as tablets, will not purify the water from all contaminants. For more information on different water purification methods go to pacific crest trail association, then go to health and safety, then to water purification.

  • how does it taste?

  • Great videos mate, greetings from an english survival store..

    knifeandbulletproof

  • @LeinadNesterbegne What if you don't have a fire, or you have no time?

  • @ToddIngram1000 Well, if i i had those tablets a would have fire as well. Because u would have those tablets if you where prepared, and if i where prepared i would bring a lighter too. And if i had no time, i wouldn't have time to wait half an hour to use a tablet anyways.

  • @LeinadNesterbegne but some people might not carry fire equipment (ill prepared people) such as hikers. Or if you are hiking and want water, but don't have any and don't want to start as small fire, then you can do this while resting.

  • @LeinadNesterbegne you can't always build a fire even if you have a lighter. For example, in heavy rain when tinder is soaked.

  • or you can boil the water.....

  • Pretty cool. I think you might need a more natural way though. I mean unless youre going to take them with you absolutely everywhere. That's one thing about survival though you really need just to have a knife. otherwise youre screwed.

  • i find boiling the water easyer :P

  • Jeans .. I go with cargopants and a good pair of boots if im out in the woods doing survivalthings.

  • Dude... great information, but your playlist is all out of sequence and missing stuff. Perhaps you can update the playlist for us?

  • boiling it would probably be faster and more effective also cost less money.

  • I used bleach tablets, as iodine can build up in your body and kill important organisms in your gut. Simple household bleach, use 2-3 drops in a cateen can also be used.

  • this dude sounds just like ashton kutcher

  • If I was in a survival situation id just drink it straight outa the flowing water... or if it looked a bit dodgy id boil it first, your more likely to die of dehydration than from the bacteria in the water.... If I got those tablets with me id throw a couple in aswell but if it is a survival situation you probably wont have them on you

  • Folks think you can just boil water and swig away. Not true - Navy taught us to, yes, boil it for a few minutes then let it cool for 20-30 minutes then reboil to kill any bacterial or fungal spores that had hatched or were still remaining in the boiled water.

  • you could also just fill the bottle with water, peel off the label and put the bottle in the sun (or if walking in the sun, strap it to your pack) for six hours. No pills or iodine solution to taste or run out of.

  • @michaelpewtherer then you're drinking warm, gross plastic tasting water.

  • @msa1985 Ever drink iodine water? It's pretty gross and when I've used it in the desert the water is warm anyway. You can get used to the taste of plastic or iodine and in a survival situation either one will do, i just prefer the method requiring the least amount of supplies. If you don't need iodine then you don't have to worry about running out of it or losing it.

  • ok ..only use tablet if you not able to boil the water..

but boiling kills all micro organisms

  • me being me if i was just camping id boil it and ad tablits my river i grose thats just me

  • so it takes half an hour for the tablets to work....and water boils in about 4 mins and would be safer to drink..... I think its more important to know how to make a fire and a make shift container to boil it in for this situation..

  • @flower150 Actually, Yeah, I carry some water tablets in my wallet, just in case.. As well as a camping pack/survival gear in my car.

  • What are the difference between

Potable Aqua Water Treatment Tablets - Potable Aqua

    and

Polar Pure Water Disinfectant - Polar Pure ???

  • @jackoalltheway

    An Interesting FACT:

If you look back into the history of beer you'd find that during the 7th centurary most Germans drank light beer over water because alcahol killed the bacteria the water. Im not saying you always need to sanitise water BUT if its NOT flowing and the bottom of the waterbed ISN"T clear of moss and debris then you should defininatley NOT drink it. Our Ancestors survived by findind out the horrible way what was safe and what wasn't BUT today we know better.

  • Ok.. Heres the thing... yes you can get sick yes you can have problems but let me ask you this If you have no way to purify water.. are very dehydated and sick from it already.. why not just drink the water and take that risk.. Yes you could get sick.. But you have to Look at it this way If you pass up the water what will kill you frist.. Dehyration because you didnt drink it.. Or sickness... Yes you can get sick and die from it.. but you have to look at what will kill me now insteadofwhatmight

  • Sorry but your arguement is flawed...

A prerson in the wilderness can last 3 days. If that was to go without water for that length of time without even considering to try and purify some drinking water then their morons.

I can understand you might not have all of these objects at hand but this is only just one way to purify water.

  • i like the fire way better when you boil the water

  • but fire's not always around.

  • wrong fire is always around if you know how to make it. theres plenty of videos on here that shows you how to make it.

  • It might seem obvious, but always look for the cleanest water. I went out after rain once, and most of the water was vaguely orange(from the local clay.) It took some time, but I did find a small stream that was running clear. Then I used the purification tablets. I also boiled it to make my tea. I would rather spend a few more minutes, than get some nasty bug. we do have a lot of sheep, and they a bug comes out of them. Water may look clear, but could have some very nasty stuff in it.

  • If you boiled your water then you wasted that water puri tab... boiling the water kills the same stuff the tab does the only thing neither kills is chemical dilution

  • if you read the posts, we were discussing what to do if you havent got water tablets at hand.

  • If you need water that badly just drink straight out of the dam stream.. you going to be dead with out water bactieria and stuff like that might kill you later.. but with out water right away you dead so id take the risk and just drink straight out of it if I need water that badly..

  • can i do the home made water purifier and then do this???

  • i hate videos where the expertsclaim to be able to live solely off the land, then when the going gets tough, whap out their sleeping bags pitch an argos tent, and start using fire lighters to cook their wall mart sausages... haha.

the whole idea of survival is that you shouldnt need to purify the water with tablets. Like your going to carrythem everywhere you roam just in case. :-p thats just ludicrous

  • Lulz totally agree. Have you ever just lived off the land and stuff? If so got any tips? And what the hell are you meant to do if you havent got water tablets XD?

  • Thank you for the video. very informative.

  • ive never actually lived off the land, although my Martial arts instructor kepps banging on about teaching us.

Like most people i get tips here and there probably the easiest methods i know are

1: fold leaves into water spouts to catch rain drops that flow into a cup underneath.

2: tie clothes around your legs and take a walk through long grass after rainfall.

the rags soak up the water from the grass, then you should just wring them out.

  • and what would your suggestions be for the same situation?

  • I listed them below if you'd care to read,

there are other methods such as filtering the water, or if it is a desperate struggle for survival anybody knows that the military are told to drink urine as it is sterile when first passed.

    This is survival after all.

come on.... you should know this, it is common knowladge!!

  • Cool

  • thats why you have them before you are marooned, but I would not rely solely on tablets

  • i'd rather use iodine drops and boil it.

  • you can use a couple of drops of bleach per gallon too and its very safe.

  • i always put pine neddles in a cup with holes in the bottom first i put gravel thenpineneddals, charcole and a peace of cloth

try it ull like ur results

  • it takes 30 minutes for the tablets

  • correct me if i am wrong but 1 litre= 1 quart therfore you cant use it for one lt to one quart because its the same mesurment

  • 1 Quart = 32FlOz

    1 Liter = 33.8FlOz

  • ok so whats 1.8 fl ounces gonna do.
