I just read today that Airbus A340 production has ended and that there will be no more A340's built. What is out there is it. The article was dated on November 11, 2011.
@jainish007 Despite a change in flight control technology, both control inceptors (either yoke or sidestick, hydraulic or FBW) still control aerosurfaces the same way. Maneuvering the craft is the same. You just don't get the "feel" through a sidestick on an A-340 like a yoke in a B-707. That's all. = )
@cjracer, it wasn't actually a 707. it was the prototype for it, the 367-80. but back then, jet engines weren't as powerful as the one's we have these days
@cjracer1000 Yeah but 707 is nowhere near as big and wide as this Airbus! Sure 707 is not an agile jet fighter but I don't a plane this could do a barrel roll but you never know! :)
I love the 340 family of aircraft...but the 346 just doesn't look right to me. Call me out on it if you want, but it just doesn't look...balanced. It looks too long IMO. I'll admit, the 340 is wonderful to fly in, but still...
Yeah Im a Boeing person but I gotta admit that the A340 is pretty sexy, slender like it is. Ive never gotten to fly on one, does it take a long time to load and unload passengers?

Its so great, they will only sell a few hundred all-time and it will be discontinued in 2016. What a waste of money for EADS/Airbus I(actually EU taxpayers). It was supposed to replace the 777 and 747 and A300. What a joke. The A300 was and always will be x10 better than this piece of crap.
Well that's the maximum, that FEP will let the plane do. They can withstand allot and allot more before they'll get damaged. Airbusses had proven to have very solid airframes, for example: Great ditching performances.
Pretty amazing what can happen when you take an aircraft designed with such an amazing MTOW and fly it totally EMPTY at an airshow! Still got all that immense power, with nothing to hold you back.. I wonder what the power to weight ratio of the 600 is when it's empty?
Oh my god, look at this climb!!! And the bank angle! It's perfectly possible do it on FS, but I tought it was possible because FS had a poor flight dinamics simulation... now I see it's a matter of audacy! :D
and why did it do that? erm well no one one the ground was paying attention to it they all had there interests in another aicraft. so the pilot of the 707 decided to do it, and the pilot didnt know if it would crash or not.
Ahh, FYI,...The pilot did know that the 707 could do a barrel roll! He did it to show everyone the capabilities that the Boeing 707 had. Don't get me wrong though! The Airbus is quite a fine aircraft,....I've flown in several of their 320's with "America West"
Testing such large plane in such matter is dangerous at low altitudes. Something similar was done by the A330 Chief Test Pilot a few year back and it ended in a crash and tragedy. Neatvideo...
If you read the notes on the A330 crash you will it was under test. The computers on this aircraft would not let it climb like this if they did not think it was safe.
They werent testing flight computers but tail heavy config with a failed engine.Airbus computers are backed up by alternative computers, ELACS FACS AND SECS

Very neat plane and aerobatics. Great video. Hope to someday see an A346 in person whether at an airshow or at an international airport.

@enbanet I wouldn't say that. Tex Johnston barrel rolled one.

@enbanet I couldn't see the Airbus doing a Barrel Roll, as the 707 did ;-)
zlindriver 8 months ago
@zlindriver
you can't compare these two aircraft. the A340 is superior in almost every way. makes sense, as it's been modernized continuously.
Croopskate 8 months ago
@Croopskate
I think you didn't get the point. It was about doing Aerobatic maneuvers, which the A340 never did, nor in this video neither somewhere else...
It was not about how modern the planes are, as they were built in decades apart. So pls don't start a discussion which is useless...

Nope, infact it's pretty efficient in loading and unloading. Not to mention emergency evacuation, due to it's enormous length.
That's my favorite plane btw. And I'm an aribus fan. I like boeings as well! But yeah seeing this baby aerodinamic performances.

An jet engine of a commercial aircraft would be 8,000 pounds of thrust.
8,000 X 4 = 32,000 LBS of thrust.
