@I32ICU: Your freedom stops when it infringes on the freedoms of others. Energy costs are a collective good: if you're using 2X, and I'm using 1X of energy, collectively, 3X. If we're both wasting it (4X), another power plant needs to be built because its capacity is only 3X; that raises rates for both of us because power plants aren't cheap. When you waste energy, it infringes on my/our freedom of having inexpensive, affordable power. That's why energy efficiency is being legislated.

I dont get how people say cfls dont last.

People grow plants with CFLs, running them at 18 hours a day, for 1 -2years before they replace bubls.

@StanwoodSpartans its the same thing for the incandescent bulb. i dont get how ppl say they dont last when i have incandescents in my house that hasnt burnt out in 4 years. its a fact that many cfls dont last as long as they cliam they do. And even if they do last for years, they get dimmer with in time. most ppl have other things in their house that contributes to energy use. So the CFL alone aint gona save u much money.

If you like incandescent and halogen because they are dimmable, and that dimming just 10% can double the life of the bulb, you can now get dimmable cfl bulbs. But read the fine print. We are already seeing that cfl's need to warm up before we get full light, they flicker, causing eye strain, and they don't last as long as advertised. They are expensive, and don't produce full light output over the life of the bulb. And dimming cfl's will shorten their life further. Money wasted.

What a bright idea! Legislation forcing everyone to use light bulbs produced in China because US companies can't afford to produce the cfl bulbs and meet all the manufacturing restrictions imposed by the tree huggers. Haven't we lost enough US jobs yet? What happened to freedom? Let people buy what they want and let companies produce what people want to buy. Incandescent bulbs are not destroying the planet.

What is Lowes doing to ensure the proper disposal of burned out CFLs? You help to create laws requiring us to use the alternatives but I don't hear anything about proper disposal.
