as with so many other singers (Layne Staley for example) - intravenous drug use has made Ogre's voice dry and scratchy in this period. His singing on the Last Rights tour vids on Youtube are really hard to listen to.
I think this song makes an important statement about how the counter-cultural ideals of the 60's have been twisted and perverted into a self-destructive lifestyle.
@katrastrophy This was an incredible album to trip to. Particularly the second half and "Download". An amazing visceral and visual journey triggered by the audio mayhem.
i'm a firm believer in experiencing a trip at least once in your life. those days are past me but i'm thankful for the experience. i chose to be around a great energy, my girlfriend (love). we alternated between skinny puppy for darker visuals, and frank zappa, shut up and play your guitar for brighter happier waves of the trip. we could control the trip through music. an experience i thought i would share. and yes this track was on there. now it's stomped on with god knows what, so i stay away
Thanks for posting. This is a fun song...by itself. Now that it's easier to get on file, has anyone else made a mix to hear how Last Rights was supposed to sound start to finish?
i've personally found the one where they talk about "murder samurai hit numbers calling in" very creepy, also the single line "murder now invigorates the unwashed bloody hands" VERY creepy. especially since ive heard it phonetically emulated even in current music. on an ironic note, skinny puppys hexxonexxon mixes very well with de-la souls "say no go" , just saying, and only beatwise.
Love Bless Leary...his equation (SMI2LE) has revolutionized free-thinking culture. And Skinny Puppy have been TUNED IN to the real world since the beginning! SPRULZ! They always speak the truth, so long as you care to decipher Ogre's brooding rants.
Choralone and Amputate are pretty fucked up too, The Mourn is also kind of creepy. Also listen to the end music of early Extreme Busters episodes. In The Dying Moments by SPK is also a pretty creepy song.
Indeed! I haven't heard this song since I lost the MP3, about 10 years ago. It fits SO well between Circustance and Download. Last Rights just isn't complete without it!
wow, i think i know the soundtrack to hell, or at least one of the songs on it, Last Rights Skinny Puppy is creepy as hell

drido 6 months ago
@drido I agree...it bleeds nicely into the cacophony of the last song...almost like something is missing when listening to LR without it in there.

you could just remix skinny puppy and "the guyver" anime voices of the zoanoids, and maybe add some vo- coders.
maybe sample some images of insect hive battles magnified ten times.
and of course, bleed crazy lava lamp colours all across the images at the same time.
just my two cents.

This is the version featured on the European edition of Brap: Back and Forth, Vol. 3 & 4. This isn't the Track 10 version.

So why was track 10 missing then? I feel like I should know this..
iwantanothername 3 years ago
It was a problem of not getting permission from whomever owned the copyright to the Timothy Leary sample used in the song.

This is the creepiest song by skinny puppy I have heard and I have heard just about every album of theirs.
