Start with finding where there are trails close to your house. Then get a used mountain bike. You could start with a Hardtail (no rear suspensions) those are always very cheap. You can find new ones under 400 bucks. If you like it, get some more experience and money and then upgrade. Full Suspensions make a world of difference. But often is a matter of preference. I'm a beginner myself and I've loved every minute of it. Good luck!
