  • Didn't J. Mascis have an affair with Pierre Bouvier from Simple Plan?

  • haha murph kinda looks like napoleon dynamite

  • 1991: The Year Punk Broke

    Go buy it!

  • This clip has always made me suspect that the song was written as a vehicle for the flanger.

  • seeing them this thursday!!!!

  • Dinsaur Jr, Sonic-Youth AND Nirvana!?

    Damn..

  • Joe Rogan

  • 1:19, that kinda looks like Joe Cole, Henry Rollins´ best friend.

  • @GrungeRockabilly

    It's him.

  • Dinosaur Jr... I think I love you...

  • This is from 'The Year That Punk Broke' right? Such a cool vid.

  • Dinosaur is the coolest

  • The DVD is finally coming out on tuesday of this whole movie.

  • looks like lee ranaldo skulking around backstage at the start

  • checking the vid info, dinosaur jr, sonic youth and nirvana! fuck I wish i was there/old enough to know what music was rather than being 6 years old

  • mind sufficiently blown

  • i think this performance is worthy of buying the re-release of ' the year punk broke'

  • Out of tune at the end of his solo. Sure sign of a solo well done!

  • man i wish you could go to a non metal rock show and get this kind of energy

  • damn nirvana, dinosaur jr and sonic youth all on one tour. wish i was born 20 years earlier and in Europe.

  • My friends and I are a rock trio, and we sort of have that same garage/rock sound as Dino Jr! We would really love if you took the time to check us out! Thanks and Long Live Dinosaur Jr!

  • Is this the same concert that the video for "Range Life" by Pavement is filmed at? If so, that concert fucking rocked.

  • @catguyauble NO. Same event, just a different year. Pavement played Reading four years later.

  • @catguyauble Same festival but 3 years later, in '94.

  • Just saw them play Bug live last night....yeah your jealous

  • @sillysp8 i gotta wait 4 more days. did they play anything else other than bug? any encore?

  • @ATMversion7

Yeah dude they played afew more songs after dude the show is awesome youll love it and thurston moore's opening is mellow but really beautiful

  • @sillysp8 dude i was at the thurston show, but thats the only gig he's playing, its normally the band OFF! opening for them which is also a really awesome band if you dont know you should check out, its keith morris's new band

  • @sillysp8 Not really. I saw 'em when they were younger and more relevant. With My Bloody Valentine opening.

  • Reading '91 is definetly one of the festivals I would attend if I could go back in time

Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Babes in Toyland

The music was awesome, the crowd was unbelievable and you can almost feel the atmosphere ..

Goddamit, why do I want to live in the past?

  • @GDhaenens i believe the ramones showed up at one gig also

  • Ha! If this is in Cologne, I was there! Dinosaur and Sonic were pretty mellow, but all hell broke loose when Nirvana came on and I thought i was gonna be crushed.

Great concert :) I think the guy from Husker du was there too

  • I want time machine...Best live performance ever!

  • . . .OKAY . . so instead of sitting on ur asses complaining about how shitty music is now a days why dont you go learn a fucking instrument and do something about it!!! the main reason there havnt been a new nirvana or dino jr or sy or whoever!! IS CAUSE YOURE ALL SITTING HERE COMPLAINING!!!

  • can you imagine seeing sonic youth, nirvana and dinosaur jr in the same place at the same time?

  • @PhilJamesTaylor I just got so giddy even thinking about that...

  • @PhilJamesTaylor Don't need to imagine mate, cos I was at that Reading Festival

  • @PhilJamesTaylor to be honest, no...it's simply beyond imagination...

  • @PhilJamesTaylor Not even! That would be too ridiculously ridiculous. Only in dreams ...

  • @PhilJamesTaylor to all the people that have replied to me: you're all awesome and it'd be cool, since we're dreaming anyway, to party to this set with you all!

  • @PhilJamesTaylor I would probably give both my testicles to see all them at once.

  • d JUNIOR IS THE LAST OF MANY GREATS! ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN!

  • i afucking awesome, in the true and literal sense.

  • Mascis's playing style is so uniquely cool.

  • @iamaladycanyousaveme

    there is always good music.

  • That's a good line up!

  • I was at this concert, 20 years later I am still listening to this tune and it is still as awesome as it was in 1991

  • 1991, reading festival footage...

    i miss my youth.

  • Cool kids used to be so cool. I hate 2011.

  • @JediJoe22 Couldn't help but throw up when I woke up again today in 2011. Music sucks and America is a fascist teabag shithole now. Going to cut my wrists and love it.

    I

  • @JediJoe22 Well, to be fair shit like this wasn't possible in 1991. We actually had to go see shows, meet people, do drugs, and get laid. Now we have the internet to take care of most of these things for us.

  • @JediJoe22 Too true, mate. The ironic thing is that if they knew music like this existed, at least 75% of my school would fall in love.

  • @JediJoe22 I know what you mean but they're still out there. I was at a DOA show a few weeks ago and saw plenty.

  • Mike V - Speed Freaks. Good times.

  • They just don't make vibes like this anymore... Go Mascis!

  • lol never has a song been so relevant in my life:P

  • MAN Murph's drum fill at 1:20 is fucking awesome.

  • Always love DJ!

  • But did you hear about Blue Zoltan getting fired?

  • these guys r so freaking original

  • what happens when u put a hash tag before a word? #awesomeness

  • Excelente!!!

  • You bitchtard

  • @MrShotgunJesus totally forget that comment i just wrote down there sorry man totally get what your saying now and i thank you for telling me its dinosaur jrs song but its kinda confusing when you ask people who song it is and they automatically say its blink 182 because they dont know who the fuck dinosaur jr is and really man now reason for the "retard" becuse im not soo yeah sorry for calling you a bitch and i really hope you just ignore the whole first comment :/

  • @MrShotgunJesus gosh thats rude calling someone a retard! they're retarded kids out there and YOU just made fun of them asshole! and omfj i forgot a fucking simple "s" that totally proves im mentally retarded <- thats sarcasim if your to STUPID to realize

    Bitch

  • is this dinosaur jr.s original song or blink 182's song?

  • @theloveway100 it's a dinosaur jr original! from their album "Bug", which came out in 1988. the first blink 182 album came out in 1992 ;)

  • @theloveway100 Dinosaur jrs you retard

  • @theloveway100 Lol Blink 182 wrote this song :p Jr just slowed it down

  • @TheEnvelopingY

No way, you've got that the wrong way round!

  • @theloveway100 how old are you? probably just too young to know these things...we'll forgive you and hope that you see the error of your ways.... something, something....

  • that guitar blows my brain... thank you J Mascis!!!

  • Suitcase-"pedalboard"!!

  • Power chord at 0.22, heaven...

  • All supporting The Pixies :-)

  • 1991 : The year that punk broke.

What a fantastic documentary that was. Still got it on video. God Bless proper music

  • guy at 1:15 is win

  • @Pickpocket That's Joe Cole. He was shot in the face during a robbery with Henry Rollins. Sucks.

  • Amazing guitar solo

  • Was the first song i met of this genial group

  • excellent post thank you

  • Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh! Saw them last summer in NYC. They're still great. It's great to see Barlow back in the mix.

  • Comment removed

  • how does j. do that guitar noise at :30

  • @whatamess1789 im not a guitar wiz or sumthing

but I guess its a phaser pedal

if you want that sound on your guitar go to your guitar shop and test some

  • @whatamess1789 Sounds more like a flanger to me

  • @tothefinlandstation yes ofc

    sorry ;)

  • @tothefinlandstation It is most likely a vintage Electric Mistress Flanger by Electroharmonix. Can't say for sure, but it's definitely J's taste.

  • Flanger it is. Maybe it's a EHX mistress, who knows...

  • @tothefinlandstation Yeah, it's flanger.

  • What year did Lou get replaced by Mike?

  • this sing featured on rocket poewers

  • Love this song. rocked then with the crazy film clip. Still rocks now. Has that "fresh, hip sound" the young kids of today like so much :P

  • seein the year punk broke when i was in high school in the early 90s....changed everything

  • I dont think this was on THAT tour. It looks very much like a Reading Festival I attended in the early 90s

  • @martinrob66 you're right this looks like the video of Kurt Coain & frances Makaye singign Mollys lips at the 91 festival same lighting

  • Srry I meant him. Using iPod which I'm not good at using the keyboard!

  • How did j make that effect at :30 without even struming his guitar??????? And also what pedal is her using to do it.?????????

  • @89Bleachyourworks

he's using a flanger. J uses an electric mistress flanger, but from what i remember he had an old ibanez flanger on this tour....the yellow pedal.

  • @89Bleachyourworks You can get that jet sound with most flangers. I have an Deluxe Electric Mistress, an Ibanez FL9, and a Boss BF-2. They all do it but IMO the Electric Mistress does it best, unfortunately it's the only one with a slight drop in volume. Having said all that, Mascis seems to have some kind of boost with his, making it more powerful.

  • where are the googlie eyes..inside joke lol

  • How does j make the guitar nosie at :29 ?????

  • @PeripheralSenses It´s cool to know there are people that write comments! I think that Dinosaur Jr. can also be that kind of best friend that always makes a fool of himself, but we always find him cool, no matter what!

  • i couldnt have been born twenty years earlier?!?!?

  • I wish I was old enough back then, to be aware of such a concert. I was only 2 when this film came out. Damn, Most of my generation's biggest alt. artist are underground. But since my generation is currently being inundated with Lady Gaga, I have a feeling that some alt rock band is gonna come up and change the course of music for our generation, somewhat similar to what Nirvana did in the early 90's at a time when Gnex was being inundated with HairMetal. I'm 21 right now, I wish for this NOW!!

  • @MA3POLO be part of it and diy. It will only happen when people like us who are sick of the current music scene change it

  • Camera whore alert at 1:14

  • holy fucking christ...the comment war here just accusing bands of this and that and that reflects on someone's behaviour...go to a fucking place to argue dammit. Dinosaur Jr is good, everyone has a different view on it, but keep it to your fucking self. fucking retards...god...

  • the year punk broke (:

  • This song is awesome! Much better than the crap like Kesha you hear these days!

  • how does j mascis make that nosie with his guitar

  • @89Bleachyourworks - with a phazer and a wha pedal...

  • 1991:the year that punk broke

  • wow. what an amazing concert!!

i would probably give up a limb to have been there!!!!

  • Saw Dinosaur Junior at Sheffield Arena 1994 with Blur, My Bloody Valentine and Jesus and Mary Chain. Loved Dnr Jr. Awesome. Loved MBV. Loved JMC. However must add Blur were really rocking and almost loudest that night as well!!!!

    Dnr Jr mind. :-)

  • saw them at shepherds bush empire, were awesome, my ears fucking killed after though

  • bitchin' line-up for a tour...wish i was alive...

  • goosebumps!!!!!

  • oh man, those solos were great.

  • haha, love it PeripheralSenses, so true.

  • Cracking video called 1991: The year punk broke that this was filmed for, as long as loads of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Ramones, Mudhoney as well as back stage interviews footage. Can't believe that was 19 years ago.

  • I've been enjoying the little comment fight below... Hilarious how that little metalhead thinks his favorite bands are the best things since sliced bread. Reminds me of my younger days, when I only listened to metal. God, how wrong I was. Thank God for bands like the Pixies for showing me the way *cue heavenly music and ray of light*

  • you guys all eat fish sticks.

everyone needs to appreciate everything about this song and J macis. 2:09

  • sonic cock

  • that was funny.

  • remember the movie half baked. the guy on the couch that would resemble dinosaur jr

  • If I had a time machine.....Reading '91 would be my first stop.

  • @samurai5625 yeah me too with nirvana and, sonic yount they rocked I have the nirvana concert DVD xD...

  • I love the sound of the guitar, it sounds so funky smooth....

  • unstoppable headbang!

  • If Sonic Youth is Nirvana's cool, responsible, artsy older brother with a cute asian girlfriend, then Dinosaur Jr would be the best friend you had in high school that was constantly stoned and read weird-ass comic books, but offered useful insights relating to society and politics.

Then, he'd pass out on your couch and piss on it. (Not necessarily in that order.)

  • What an awesome comment, haha.

  • I think this is sort of missing the point, bro.

  • @kanzukun I would assume the asian dude would be cool with it. maybe the gal too if she's a switch hitter

  • However, I get your point, and it is a good one. I would make a couple of modifications to the analogy. Instead of the generic (and somewhat of a stereotype) "cute," I would say "intellectual and sexy."

I like the reading weird comic books bit, but Nirvana were definitely more of the couch-pissers than Dino Jr..

  • your comment on dino-freak scene is so awesome !!haha hilarious..and true.good old alternative rules !!

  • @PeripheralSenses Best comment I've read recently. Great metaphor, man!

  • @PeripheralSenses you are awesome.

  • @PeripheralSenses I love this comment you summed it up beautifully.

  • @PeripheralSenses couldnta said it better myself!

  • Comment removed

  • @evervic Oh no, a troll.

I guess I should post an angry, ranty comment telling how stupid you are.

  • @evervic Fail troll is fail.

  • @evervic lol... you're a fag

  • @PeripheralSenses That is the funniest shit I read in a looonnngggg time...I am STILL laughing...I know that guy!!!!!

  • @PeripheralSenses

    yeah you can say that^^

  • @PeripheralSenses damn i miss that friend

  • @PeripheralSenses I had a friend like that. He's a blood now and won't talk to me.

  • @PeripheralSenses hahahaha perfect

  • @PeripheralSenses This might be the best thing ever posted in a comments section on the internet. Ever.

  • Now THIS is what I'm talking about! Thanks for this great vid!

  • Perhaps I should say "excitement" from 0.22 - 0.49.

  • Awesome vid. Perhaps it's a little corny and stage-showy, but I like J's movement from 0.22 - 0.36. As a whole, the boys had great stage presence that day.

  • 0:22 AHH there we go! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • wow this is great... dino forever

  • Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, and Nirvana? What a show that must have been.

  • and then Pixies, Radiohead, R.E.M. and Smashing Pumpkins

  • @fcuicu89 i think iggy pop was the headliner on saturday also

  • Comment removed

  • @fcuicu89 Its the show where Kurt Cobain dived into grohl's drumset.

  • @fcuicu89 I wish I was there..... even if I was only 1 XD... DAMNIT I CANT WAIT FOR TIME TRAVEL!!

  • @fcuicu89

2 outta of three ain't bad.

  • Scum rock at its finest! Nice.

  • 90's music was so much better because it was raw and unpolished. Todays rock sucks and has no substance. Even when a decent band comes along, they are only good for 1-2 albums before they become a pop band/money cow for their label (see; seether/shinedown etc.) As for Nickelback, they jumped the shark after "Rock Star", and those dance songs they have now make me throw up. Were those produced by timbaland?

  • You're really being too general there. That happens with mainstream acts but there's a brilliant underground scene.

  • @lawnmandbg33

im guessing you are talking about bands who are actually really big(as shown in the reference to Nickelback), but you compare it to the fairly famous dinosaur jr

  • @lawnmandbg33 Ticklesack...er, I mean Nickelback, has always sucked.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green

    Hahaha, "Ticklesack", that's hilarious!

  • why are you commenting about a conversation that occured 2 months ago R-tard.

  • R-tard? DICKSORE JR.!? Why aren't you embarrassed to exist? You should be. You're an incoherent moron. I read you profile and it actually depressed me.

I'd like to hear why you like The Beatles, by the way.

  • Yet you like them enough to include them on your profile. I only ask because you seem to be under the impression that speed and musical ability is more important than creative expression and good songwriting. Dylan obviously sucks because he doesn't play as fast as Motley Crue, man! Jesus, Motley Crue.

Hopefully one day you'll wake up and realise that you've wasted your life listening to Linkin Park.

"oh and a fuck you!" - This is what I mean. Why aren't you embarrassed to be you?

  • haha!!!!! you crack me up. omg haha. thats so funny when people tell me that one day ill grow out of liking the music that i like and will realize how it is crap. and im not under the impression that speed and musical ability is better than good songwriting. i listen to plenty of bands that have slow, easy to play songs that i like. it doesnt have to do with whether the songs are hard to play, it has to do with the song being good. if your gonna base an argument on a selected few of my fav bands

  • ,then your not worth arguing with. FUCK YOU! HAVE A SHITTY ASS LIFE LISTENING TO YOUR SHITTY ASS MUSIC!

  • "if your gonna base an argument on a selected few of my fav bands" - This is what you did to begin with. If you insult a band in such a ridiculously ill informed way, it's only natural for people to do the same to bands you like. You've just made it easier for everyone because you happen to like Motley Crue and Linkin Park.

Sorry about the lack of exclamation marks and caps.
