the clean install wipes everything, if u have a vista already and ur upgrading, just buy the windows 7 upgrade, it saves all the hastle of having to backup ur entire drive and it is cheaper. Also keep the same bit. If u have a vista 32 bit, upgrade to Windows 7 32 bit. If u really want to change from 32 bit to 64 bit, visa-vera, u need to backup your entire hard drive because it has to wipe your entire computer data, for the clean install. Go to microsofts website for more info if u need it.

@AlexBestGTA Technically that's not the case. You can bypass this by buying the upgrade editon, not entering a product key and installing a clean installation. Then boot and upgrade with the product key via the desktop. Microsoft included this workaround for those who have had a XP or Vista licence previously, but have had to format the drive or get a new one, so as long as you have had XP or Vista in the past, it's fully legal to do this. It still works if you haven't though :)

Windows 7 upgrade is really the full version. You dont need a activated copy of XP, Vista or windows 7 RC like microsoft said you had to do. you can install it on a blank hard drive with a clean install.

all editions come with both, except Home Basic, which only available in Emerging Markets. I have yet to open mine, but I bet they include instruction on how to order 64-bit. Home Basic is definitely capable of 64-bit

Sadly no from what I hear. In your case you can upgrade to 32 only.

No, after attempting to peel it off it was starting to rip ever so slightly, so I decided not to. I just opened it up and it split the sticker in half perfectly, so when you close the case you can read it as if it were never split.

i've been holding back opening the box for weeks because of the COA splitting issue. just wondering, is it difficult to get the COA split into half perfectly without damaging it?

I have Ultimate Full retail edition without activation restriction. I ended up buying cheap Home Basic (Emerging Market from Indonesia with activation restriction) as well, but same case: I am afraid of damaging the COA.

Nevertheless, when the time come after I finished backing up my files, I will open them up.

Dont worry about it, just open it normally and it perfectly tears in half. There is no special skill to it.

thanks for the assurance. What I thought about this is how idiot microsoft is to put the COA in such position. I hope they won't do this thing again for the next Windows. Per your video, I saw a lot of space to put the COA without necessity of being split. (I have yet to open the outer plastic, but I saw the wavy line how the COA will split when I open them). Thanks for giving me insight of the inside of the box.
