Don't know if anyone has confirmed it for you or not...but I have the HD american version (if that's the one you are talking about) and we have the snapped off metal pipe too and have to use the lever for the pillar.
I to have the HD Collection, got it for $25 new. I love a good puzzle adventure, but ICO is the worst game I have played in a very long time. I'm thinking the price tag was set for Shadows and ICO was a free bonus they threw in so someone would play it. I will finish this game and never touch it again. Shadows had better be damn near perfection. Otherwise I wasted $25, but I can still trade it in. =) Horray for GameStop!

im loving this game but there are niggles where im getting stuck and if i slp and die im sent back too far so im thinking just play along with these videos for a while and just enjoy it rather than get annoyed and give up
There is no block in the American version to give ico a "super jump". Instead ico climbs the ladder and uses the railing around the perimeter of the room to shimmy over to the window with the ladder that leads outside. Also in the American version, there is no spinning water turbine outside. I don't know how to beat this part yet though because I'm playing the game as I write :3
Its the watermill/lake bit that's different in the american version, I know cos I got stuck at it, and was reading walkthroughs and it was completely different and I couldnt work out why I couldnt do it XD Till i read the american version was different on wikipedia or some site like that.
@shadowsa2b The American version was released hastily due to deadlines imposed by that market, ones that were more liberal in EU/Japan. Something like that, anyway.
Yeah, you were right about the differences. The North American version doesn't have that super-jump part, nor does it have that tricky waterwheel. I think the box you push in the water is in a different place, as well. It's very interesting finding out all these differences ^.^

the one thing I noticed about ico is they put the answers right in front of you but self doubt was what made the puzzles difficult.

Yorda is a bit pathetic. Who climbs ladders like that? She kinda seems crippled the way she climbs.
Also, didn't anyone ever teach you not to make promises you couldn't keep? Either way, your voice is hilarious when you get angry.

Holy crap! I'm shocked at how different the versions are! I'm mean having just replayed this part...let me count 'em:
1) no break in the first pipe
2) no switch on the second platform
3) no super jump machine/the ledges that you climb up subsequent to using it (a regular platform instead)
4) no spiky waterwheel/
5) different turning thing
5) i think the block's in a different place?
also i don't remember there being a suspicious wall but that may've just been an oversight on my part idk.

Here's hoping if a Team ICO collection is ever released for the PS3, NA gamers will finally be able to play the "complete" version of Ico.
Although that waterwheel part does look quite difficult.

Another alteration in the American version is that at around 1:04, there's no block to drag. You have to climb up a slightly different area.
