@thestig747, the Citabria is a great ab initio trainer. You will learn to use your feet on the rudders; it's light and responsive; you have a good view on both sides and you're not rubbing shoulders with the instructor. And it's great fun to fly.
I did my TW endorsment in RRW last Christmas ,great airport and a really nice AC, , i'm doing some time in an RV6 and will have my own Skyfox in the air soon. I'd have to say the Citabria is a real pussycat compared to the RV's, and I'v been told the fox is a handful on the ground aswell, good video I enjoyed the time down there heaps ! If anyone's interested I have some vids of the Skyfox resto on utube !
I will be starting some flying lessons on a Citabria at Camden. I have some hours already on a cessna 150 but I want some experience flying stick instead of yoke control (I plan on flying for the defence force). Is it really a nice plane to learn on?
Let's put it this way: This is a great tutorial for how to do the "taildragger thing"...excellent approach, excellent round out, excellent flair (notice how he covered the end of the runway with the nose?). Great video...should be marketed as a "how to" on a three point landing.
Thanks for the comments. My instructor will be pleased. She's now flying Dash-8s for Qantas. RRW is repaired and back on line - must go and have another flight for old time's sake.
same as any other tailwheel about 8 to 10 hrs. but I wouldnt recomend getting your endorsement in a Citabria. The citabria can be a tricky plane to land cause of its sprigy LG. If youve never done tailwheel before then you should do it in a J-3 because its LG is very solid. But dont be fooled by the simplicity of the j-3 because Tailwheel is very difficult to master at first. but if you do it your in for a treat bc you become a much better pilot. Cruise for a citabria is about 100mph (7GCBC).
Thanks for the comment. It's precisely because it's tricky to land that the Citabria is good to learn on. I did all my basic training on the Citabria and have no regrets. Mind you, I'd like to try a Cub too.
Great approach, nice landing. I flew VH-MWY yesterday in 10 gusting 25 conditions for my first taildragger experience. Boy that sure kept my feet busy! Good work on this one. Can't wait for those conditions haha!
That's bad news. I did hear about a recent accident at Camden but didn't know it was RRW. It is a great a/c, and I've marked a few milestones in it - TIF, first solo, first passenger. Hope it's back on line soon.
Camden airport is a great airport. By the way if any body is there and you'r aircraft needs a wash or the hanger need's a sweep drop in to Curtis Avaiation for details you will see my ad hung up
Go Curtiss Aviation!!!!!!!

Nice job. Got my tailwheel endorsement, but not ready to go solo quite yet . Hardest thing to fly in my career but lots of fun.

Yes. You will love it. The stick allows really fine control and the Citabria is a pretty light a/c. Good luck with the ADF.

Thanks, flew WKM today, great fun! Loved it, really made me work though, my arm started getting sore lol

I flew RRW when she had less than 100 hours on her - she is an absolute peach.

Can't take the credit for the landing - the instructor flew it from the back seat. It was my third lesson. You did well in those windy conditions!

Beautiful!! Love those Citabria aircrafts. I want to buy my own someday. :)

Great aircraft, RRW. Unfortunately out of the air for a while after being damaged in a recent landing accident.
