Denny and his wife Rosa have a website called "Denny's Journey", detailing his treatment for the brain cancer, etc... He has "Grade Four Glioblastoma", which is always fatal, but some live for a few years after diagnosis. He's already two years in, a testament to his determination and will.
I have read on an airline pilot thread that Denny has brain cancer.
My thoughts and prayers (and some healing energy) go out to him.
A great man, reminding us all of the great potential that is within us...even more than we ever thought possible or could ever imagine (and I say this as a person who has three severly painful degenerative spinal diseases and is now pretty much bedridden--in process of getting a wheelchair). The power within is IMMENSE!
@drumbrains If this was my Uncle and I saw people were saying these things I think I would let every member of the family know and to take down the stupid twats typing away.... don't you? Or have you disrespected him by what you said - either fight it, prove it or apologise to those you need to.
@begoi It was a show called 'First Person' - a TV series of interview-based short documentaries made by Errol Morris.
Interesting, but his feature documentaries are far superior: The Thin Blue Line, Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr, Fog of War, Standard Operating Procedure and many more - the guy is a genius.
@n310ea Well almost every seat on airlines usually have those crappy magazines in the seat-backs as well as newspapers and magazines people bring on board, briefcases with paper, manuals for aircraft operations.
Capt. Denny Fitch - you are the mac daddy. This was very moving and very sad but very inspirational. The same goes to the plane's captain and the pilots and crew.
For this kind of video they could have picked an interviewer that sounded like less of a douche. It's an odd contrast to the polite, intelligent, well spoken pilot.
I had the pleasure of working at United Airlines when Denny was still flying (he retired in 2003) and he is just as he appears in this video... a gentleman.

Hang on to your seat -- This heroic tale of miraculous airmanship is the most astounding I have ever seen. It is worth watching multiple times.

I hate when in documentarys they put scary music, for real in any documentary like this they put scary music, The thing is to create morbidity.

Everytime there's an airplane crash there's always papers blowing in the wind, what part of the aircraft did those papers came from?

This guy seems like one hell of a person... In part 5, his willingness to save the other people on the plane in exchange for his own life is amazing.
Glad he made it out OK.

Denny is as he seems in this video... a gentle man. I have no doubts that he lives to this day wondering what else he could have done.

I think I remember hearing about this plane crash. It had to crash land and it was caught on video. Something went wrong in the tail engine I think.

Errol Morris' films are amazing. This story is mind-blowing. What about the woman who falls for serial killers? Post her interview!
