The most obvious cause is using the same needle without sterilization. A feature common in cost-cutting hospitals. It's easy to blame outsiders but very hard to take responsibility for children suffering.

Why would some doctor secretly experiment in a hospital? He could never publish his findings? As much as I would understand someone wanting to believe this story: I find it too far fetched to give it any credence. There is no sense in injecting children w/ AIDs, they are the improper subject!

Great reporting, as usual, Al Jazeera. There needs to be further investigations as to who else is responsible, because I'm sure it's not just this doctor and these nurses who took it upon themselves to do it. Some one or some entity led them to do so. It's outrageous how third parties (the Europeans and the Americans) outside of Libya can pass judgment on this issue. It's up to the Libyan courts to decide based on the evidence.
