Yes, federal groups are supposed to help states, but they CAN'T unless help is formally requested by an official (i.e. governor). FEMA cannot step in until it is asked to do so. As I said before, the governor failed to ask for help soon enough for it to do any good.

No one was waiting for limos. Cops with guns wouldn't let them even walk into the next town. Do you remember the bus filled with tourists that got shot at by the cops for trying to leave? And the black guy who talked the cops into stopping them from shooting.
There was a white guy at that bridge who had a boat but he would only take whites.
I worked with the Red Cross after Katrina. I've never seen the face of racism until I saw and listened to what it was really like.

The government implied it would look after people who went to the place they were told to go. It is not the public's fault that the authorities lied and then treated them worse than animals. 1. The governor didn't put in an official request for aid, therefore it was not constitutional for federal government to step in.
2. So many people bash fox for being part of white house talking points. Explain this.
3. I feel sorry for those babies and children but why the hell did those people stay in New Orleans? they had a 5 day warning. I feel no sympathy for adults who decided to stay. I feel terrible for kids/babies whos stupid parents who wanted to ride out katrina

and it was declared but the governor said send us help, send us evrything u can...the govt took that and instead of doing anything productive, simply sent in supplies without having any sort of plan to distribute it, buses that coulda been used to transport ppl were parked in random places, it was disgusting and this is the first and only time fox news ever said a bad word about the Bush govt

I agree Katrina was a muddled disaster, but you should know...FEMA was unable to step in because it is FEDERAL Emergency Management Agency. Since it's a federal agency and not a state-run group, it can't get involved in state affairs (as mandated by the Constitution), even if it is to help. It was a failure on the Governor's part to not request federal aid/relief sooner.

Yes, federal groups are supposed to help states, but they CAN'T unless help is formally requested by an official (i.e. governor). FEMA cannot step in until it is asked to do so. As I said before, the governor failed to ask for help soon enough for it to do any good.
