both are remarkable games but i <3 RE 4evea but SH has tht terror/horror thing tht makes you have hellish nightmares so thts a plus! RE is vary good wit the blood & gore too, but wow if u see SH it tops! & think wat would happen if they combine?? now hell will come 4 sure! i have 2 say SH tops RE in most stuff except hot dudes & girls lolz & different locations. ~~~~PEACE~~~~

Silent hill 1 through 4 are true survival horror, so is resident evil 1, 2, 3, code VERONICA. Resident evil 4 and 5, silent hill homecoming, doom 3, and L4D are NOT (I Repeat, NOT) survival horror. The point of survival horror is de-emphasized combat, horror based enemies, and limited supplies. The only thing thoughs games have is horror enemies.

@metaljar02 Survival horror is a much deeper genre than people try to make it, so its kind of hard to explain. simply having to survive in a horror setting doesn't make it survival horror (by that logic, L4D would be called survival horror)

I know what u mean, its just that people don't like guns when it comes to surviving horror funny cuz your trying to survive lol.. its just what people are used to.. we usually get a weak girl that doesn't know how to fight or handle a gun, but when we a man as main character that knows how to defend him self n knows how to use a gun we hate it..why??

@metaljar02 L4D is as far from survival horror as you can get. It has no puzzles, a HUGE emphasis on combat and you are NEVER alone (though being alone isn't mandatory for survival horror, it just adds to it :)) Guns have nothing to do with not being survival horror, the problem is these new "survival horror" games don't follow what makes a survival horror game survival horror.

@metaljar02 this is gonna go on forever...lol but thats not the problem.The characters in REsident evil are trained with guns, yet they have terrible shots. Its like that on purpose. You can like RE4 all you want, its not a bad game, just don't call it survival horror

also, Capcom was obviously just trying to get into the action-oriented, horror themed shooter craze brought on by Dead Space and Left 4 Dead and not have it focus on survival horror

finally, I just want to mention that I was actually not impressed by RE4

I mean, as far as amazing lenth and great third-person shooting go, i'd stick by GTASA anyday (PC version only)

Silent hill scared the shit out of me(but also confused the shit out of me), but I enjoyed the game play from the Resident evil series way more. Haven't Played 5 or Home Coming though.

yes the SH story is huge, Im a huge fan and i only know half of it lol but resi 5 is a terrible Resident evil game, not scary but its fun, homecoming quite a weak SH game too but its scary and fun

SH1 is decent, but the graphics have aged and the story makes you go "What the Hell." Otherwise SH is a good series all around... well except 4, 4 wasn't even in Silent Hill.

Hey, really nice review! I have to say that I pretty much agree with everything you said. I'm a die-hard fan of both series', and have been following them since the very beginning. The RE movies, although fun to watch, were ultimately just crap. The SH movie was better, and stuck more with SH1, but it ultimately screwed up the plot. RE 1,2, and 3 were great horror games. 4 & 5 were action games. SH 1 and 2 are the best, most intelligent psychological horror games ever made imo. Followed by SH3.

Yeah again even though RE5 was a good game it just wasn't Resident Evil, dont get me wrong even though i slate RE in the episode i still love it, just no where near as SH, and i only played about 25% of RECV, then i got bored! Just didn't get drawn in at all, i guess you liked it though? phew long comment

RE and SH are both great games in their own respect. Resident Evil has the better storyline, more in depth characters and more action. Silent Hill has memorable scary moments and is a frightening games at time. The RE movies suck besides Degeneration which was actually bout the game. Silent Hill movie sticks with the silent Hill universe more than the Re movie does. Basically Paul Anderson stole capcoms idead and crapped on them. Overall I like Resi Evil better

The intro dream sequence from the original Silent Hill is, for me at least, one of the most memorable intros in all of gaming. If you haven't played the game, at least play the first 10 minutes to see what I mean! :]

my personal fav was Re Nemisis way scary. they should remake that one as they did Re for the gamecube.
