  • Some of them did actually seem to enjoy it

  • "SENATOR" Nancy Pelosi???

  • Seems like most of the people in the room aren't even alive.

  • Barack was the only one watching!

  • i don't think anyone in that room besides liz and john know what reels are.

  • totally agree with you guys.that audience tanks.that was an amazing performance,if people cant party on that i dont know what will get them to have a good time

  • A supreme performance in front of a pack of shit stuffed zombies.

  • @bloodchilde My thought exactly. They radiate so much energy regardless of the snobbish glares. What if the senate had more musicians

  • im sure liz carroll will never play there again lmao

  • Never seen so much talent wasted on a bunch of stiffs in the room.

  • THEY'RE AWESOME with their musical instruments, congratulations, but many people on the room don't idea with that beautiful kind of music

  • I did like it better towards the end but I remain underwhelmed. And I agree with Sladgeh, totally!!

  • Anyone know the name of the one starting at 2.45, it's a quare tune! It's such a shame that this performance is so obviously wasted on the audience.

  • Zagastaroth I wouldn't say that, not if we're talking about the same president. Is this not the B.O. who threatened to invade Iran and who continues to fund Israels genocide on the Palestinian people Weather Zionists in power are pulling strings in the background or not dosen't matter because he is still willing to carry out their dirty work . It's so clear now what's happening and there's no excuse anymore, People need to take a stand and stop pretending they know nothing about whats happening

  • Disappointed that they even played for the snobs of the whitehouse!. While they wine and dine in the whitehouse, ordinary people are tortured and murdered in Iraq and Afghanistan under the orders of fat pigs like these sitting comfortably in their suits. Providing entertainment for the very people who supply israel with bombs to murder innocent children in Gaza and indeed the rest of Palestine. I must say I lost a lot of respect for JD and Liz Carroll!

  • @sladgeh That sounds a bit one-sided. One could just as validly say they’re playing for B.O., who is much more temperate than his predecessor on the social kind of topics you’re mentioning. Or that they feel like they’re playing for the freshly inaugurated, first black president, thus expressing their support of a victory against racism. Also, given this was on St. Patricks day 2009, the moment could have been one of expectations for change for the better now the more bellicose Bush had gone.

  • @sladgeh -- Good for you. I agree with you.

  • I suspect the crowd enjoyed the performance. They're probably just used to performances staying in the background -- keyboard jazz -- at those dinners.

  • they are a lot better than that scratchy sound every other time ive heard them. whats going on?

  • does she sound a little out of tune? I still like it though

  • wow...tough crowd

  • how hungry are people in America these days?

  • Jeez the only one that is paying attention is B.O. himself!! Respect John and Liz!!

    Ignore the rest of them!!

  • How can anybody sit still, be indifferent or have a conversation when this is happening? Man they rock!!!!

  • i am proud to call Liz Carroll and John Doyle my good friends...

  • Most of those snobs aren't even giving these awesome musicians their attention. You are supposed to cheer when they switch into that awesome minor tune. They didn't even notice. I am not a fan of Obama, but at least he gave his full attention to them and acted as though he enjoyed this.

  • John Doyle! One of the musical Geniuses of this century!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • She was my judge one year at the Fleadh Cheoil in St. Louis

  • pearls indeed ... swine also ... what a bunch of wankers... couldn't like them if they shit fivers...

way da go John, as someone once said..."one a these days you'll git caught up in them wires, son" ;) best regards

    j fitz

  • At least Obama seems to be watching the musicians all the time. Great music at that.

  • What a wasted, soulless useless collection of human detritus they're forced to play in front of. I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a relative who's a politician. Come to think of it... Anyhow, whoever called this "pearls before swine" is absolutely correct.

  • classic example of 'pearls before swine' !

  • With Liz's Finesse and John's fire these two make the best duet ever! :D x

  • Best duet ever! They are amazing! :D I know the reels. Paddy Glakin's trip to Dingle/On the Lam/The Waves at Dingle/The Top of the Stairs. x

  • Thanks!

  • Great performance. A shame about the crowd. Some people don't know how lucky they are. Even if they don't like that type of music, how could you not notice that level of talent.

  • At the intro, it should name "Speaker of the House" Pelosi, NOT "Senator".

Checking to see if we're awake?

  • I agree with those mentioning it is a pity to see the soulless reaction of these people to such great music. How can you not move your head or smile? I'd love to see politicians who get moved by music, they would get my vote...

at any rate, great to see Liz and John playing there.

  • What do Italian Americans know about Irish Traditional Music. (Oops, I hope Tony Demarco does`nt read this.)

  • OK OK Nan... Just let them get on with it!!

  • Just goes to show the puppets of the world cant even have an opinion on the music themselves because they wherent told what to think yet. And the fat one just keeps eating. The have no idea how lucky they are to be in a room with individuals such as liz and john.

amazing piece its so full as if there was 10 people up there. 5 stars

  • Great playing but this video is hard to watch cause of all the bald heads reflecting the light and the people walking in front of the camera...yikes you'd think the President could ensure the video person could get a decent view. Better to just listen and shut your eyes on this one.

  • Awesome as usual for Liz & John! Too bad we had to mainly watch two people stuffing their faces and having big Washington noggins, wait staff and photographers getting in front of the camera! Seriously, could they not have gotten a better camera position for the poor videographer??

  • Great music! Not a very lively audience, though. haha.

  • Wow, amazing playing. John's changes are so new, and yet so sublime.

Pity that it totally went over the heads and hearts of the people there. Didn't see anyone grooving to it. Maybe it's not cool to react. Their loss.

  • John Doyle is freakin ballin'! I saw him at an Irish festival in Savannah, along with Mick Maloney. Too cool and too hot...

  • A lot ot the people in the room clearly have no idea how lucky they are to hear them live.

  • you are so right....I played at a festival in Ms with her this weekend...She and Daithi Sproule were there as Trian....phenomenal...just bloody brilliant!

  • If I was there I would leaping up and down and singing my heart out lol. They are amazing. I am like their biggest fan. People need to get into this music more lol x

  • I got to meet Liz Carroll in Madison, WI at a party after she played there as part of Trian. What a classy lady. BTW if you haven't heard her with String Sisters, check them out - she plays with Mairéad NÍ Mhaonaigh, Emma Härdelin, Liz Knowles, Catriona Macdonald, and Annbjørg Lien.

  • @okelydokely2 too right mate, they seem so stiff compared to the music

  • @okelydokely2 going to see her live tonight woop!

  • Stunning.....simply amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • wat tuning does john play in?

  • Drop d

    DADGBE

  • dadgad, drop d and standard depending on the tune....

  • I love Liz and John, could've done without Obama and Pelosi on the video. Take the good with the bad I guess.

  • I really enjoyed the playing of these great artists. So nice to see Irish fiddle in the White House too! It was sad to see that many of the politicians seemed more interested in the food, it was as if the artistry was beyond them. I think even if it's not your style of music, take a moment to listen! Obama was gracious and seemed to appreciate the music.

  • That is so cool!!

  • Waow, a bomb in the White House ! Where are the G-men ?

    Up Liz and John !

  • Sweet - thanks for sharing that!

  • Hey, this means I'm just two degrees of separation from Barack Obama!

Great playing, wish the sound quality of the video was a little better - though it improves somewhat after they've been playing for a minute.

  • gR8 video says all from adare

    well done ,

  • Realy great music. Respect to Obama. Other looking like its very boring for them. IMHO They came only to eat )))

  • When Liz told me that she and John were going to be playing this gig, I was so proud, I cried!

  • Incredible sound coming from just two instruments. President Obama respected the players by paying attention to them and not the stuffed shirts in the room. Well done!

  • to adundasclan

Obama is still fresh from the streets of America, most likely not so for the others in the room

  • it is a shame those old white farts are looking away and stuffing their faces instead of watching this.

  • O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'Hare and O'Hara,

There's no one as Irish as Barack Obama!

  • You mean Barack O'Bama.
