Im OK with both. I use DIRECTV while my grandparents use Dish. The only bad thing is that our new HD reciever's menu can be laggy at times. Its hard for me to find any good shows on Dish, It may just be my grandparents plan though

DISH sucks/ You have over 9500 channels for Direc TV while Dish gives you barely under 5000. Also, DTV gives you channels from all over the world, unlike DISH. By sometime in 2010, DISH is going to pay their users extra for HD tv, while it's free for DTV. Also if you move into another house, dtv sets up a new satellite and reciever free, while you have to make a full payment for DISH. Direct gives you more for less.
Directv for one thing charges for local channels where Dish claims to give them to you free. From what I hear Dish adds on many extra charges to your bill which would turn you against it, but Direct does the same.
I love satellite television! I live in sunny California and my television works 365 days a year, every year. I have had both Directv and Dish Network. YES, Dish Network does have more HD programming. Directv has the edge on sports (as long as you are willing to pay for it). Dish Network has the edge on international programming. Otherwise, programming is similar and expansive. I do like Dishnetwork's dish and hardware better. I would easily recommend either provider.

Directv suck, had a dual tuner for only 2 months and the dvr went dead on a tuner, the satellite installer did a half ass job grounding the cable connector which hangs while the comcast internet guy grounded it perfectly. Honestly directv is a complete waste of money.
dish is better*-* direct tv is more expensive and cust service is not that great. the only reason that ur gonna have loose signal if your not on the spot beam area, and besides direct tv is still from satellite.

I might switch to Dish because Directv is almost 70.00 when I'm paying for the 49.99 service. with tax it cost 55.99 Directv about to have another double state tax once again. Cable tv servces forcing Directv to double pay state taxes.
the website was helpful. it seemed a bit more slanted towards directv, which is unusal, most other's ive looked at slant towards dish. i do like the duo receiever idea with dish though, and the sports packages with direct. anyone else for combining the two services and making our own!? haha
I had Dish and was constantly losing signal on HD channels. After three tech visits and the same thing, they let me out of my contract becuz they couldn't fix it. I also noticed each time they sent a tech out, they weren't very professional. I've since switched to Direct and it has been SOOO much better and cheaper. I had a small problem at first but it's since cleared up.
+ I've had two year contracts with both companies and I found Dish to be better. I paid ten dollars less but had more channels with Dish. It has clearer picture and sound and the channels were easier for me to memorize. I did enjoy Directv's ability to bookmark recorded programs, though. - Dish allows me to run two TVs off one DVR. When I record a show however, one of the TVs must be on that channel. I can but another receiver to alleviate this problem, though.
