  • Good quality camera considering it's from the 90s! I actually thought this was taken in around 2006 until I searched Kai Tak Airport & found it closed in 1998! lol

  • A little long past "the blocks", but all's well that ends well!

  • ollo

  • I Would of did a GO AROUND! Because it looks like he's gonna stop at the threshold

  • @BoiiMegaFlii

    Would have done.

  • It's a -200

I worked on them till they were parked in the desert-I miss the red tail :(

  • was that a -200 or a -300?

  • @TheJedinite -200

  • @jaredvazquez012 If that's an SP, then NWA was lying to me and I was sitting in the wrong left seat for 20 years.

  • @afarr454 SP is shorter than this

  • @wisnu1231 No u can tell its a 747SP Look at the wings NO WINGLETS see?

  • @ninjadude92584 nice try, it's a 200F. FYI the only 747 that has ever had winglets is the -400. A 747SP is a very short and stubby version of its larger counterparts.

  • @ElAl4ever umm tthe wait what ur making me confused

  • @ninjadude92584 The plane in the video is a 747-200 Freighter. That's all you need to know for now.

  • @ElAl4ever k

  • I miss Kai Tak Airport..... God, that was a great airport to fly into..... I miss it........

  • The new Chep Lak Kok Lantau Airport is better. People say it's the best in the world <3

Woot I live in HK and I LOVE IT!

  • @Arsealan Yes, the new Chep Lak Kok Lantau Airport is a good one. I just hope that the construction managers can always safe the new airport. There has been reports that it is sinking in that sea area by about 1 foot a year. The news here in the US had reported that and I was feeling sorry for the new airport..... Take care and I am glad you live in Hong Kong..... A great city!!! Great city!!!!

  • @MarcusLeepapi me too my friend

  • @thevinceberry thanks so much.....

  • @MarcusLeepapi HK has had a lot of typhoons lately though...I didn't know it was sinking by a foot a year :O

  • @Arsealan Thank yo for telling me about the typhoons. Yes, when I hear news reports about things especially aircraft news I got very concerned. Yeah, the news here had spoken about the reports of what different countries in the airline business are going through. I just hoped that the HK government can handle the news about the new airport. I try very hard to hope for the best in the airline industry. Thanks again.

  • PLAY TENNIS?

  • wow thats some amazing footage...and the view!

  • great landing....

  • wow

  • Yeah, my Mom and me were at PanAm World Airways... Then, I was at United Airlines and landing there before they closed that airport.. God, I miss that airport so much..... One runway, flying over there the ocean bay area.... I miss it. I flew in the cockpit many times. Just for fun. There were a couple of captions who were really fun.

  • I want to spot there :(

  • why does it ALWAYS look so gray, and cloudy all the time in hong kong ???

  • polution, 308

  • that sucks

  • seems like most a/c land way beyond the touchdown zone

  • Yep, and this makes me feel better about my landings on FS. :P

  • well said. :)

  • @Icehexahedron thats more a saftey zone they have to fly high to not hit the buildings!

  • amazing !

  • who is playing tennis? lol

  • Wow, starting to sound like Romper Room in here! You parents must be proud of the way you talk.

  • i would love to live in that position like that near the airport wakeup to the fresh smell of jet fuel and the sound of a Boeing 747 touching down.

  • How did you get up on the hill? Is there a path? The last time I tried in summer 2008, there wasn't a path up.

  • Kai Tak was closed over a decade ago.

  • Shoudn't that path still be there?

  • yea, it probably would. Sorry, i just thought you were just saying you've been there, and not actually have. Whatever, i don't won't to argue.

  • First set to Luh Yian. 1-0...your serve.

  • I think the pilots just flew towards it. On most days when you can see the checkerboard you can also see the runway out the right window. The pilots then probably judge when the turn themselves. This is just speculation on my part however.

  • How exactly does the checkerboard work as a VRP? Is it as soon as it comes into view the pilot makes the turn, or when it is in a certain position in relation to the plane?

  • I think it might be at the middle marker...

  • In the old days when there was no IGS or other sorts of navigation aids, pilots needed to spot at the checkerboard as a reference for their approach path until they actually had runway 13 in sight. Then they just focused on the runway and flew towards it.

In latter days the checkboard actually had little function except be used as on of the visual guildences for the VISUAL STEP DOWN approach for runway 13.
