You're crazy. The kids are smoking for the image and not for the high is my guess, and for some reason they think turning their heads away from their friends when smoking and not inhaling makes them cooler or better or something than other smokers. Great observation though I never thought about this. You sound a little mocking though with your analysis.
i completely agree. If you're gonna 'give yourself cancer', at least inhale it and get that headspin that nicotine gives you, instead of wasting good, expensive cigarettes...
BTW I don't know what it is about it, but i love your voice, Juliana!
How can you tell all that from an aerial view? And also, movie-smoking in those noir films of the 1940's was done in a cinematographic way. This is just a trio of pals hanging out, not realizing they were filmed. Perhaps if they did, they'd do you a favor by doing that dramatic smoking you like.
That girl with the yellow jersey smokes exactly the same as this girl I have a crush on. Maybe they know eachother.
Yeah, like, or the olden-day cowboys with the rolled-up-in-newspaper cigarette hanging out there... With that 'what can you tell me, son' look on their face.
Interesting. I think you will see people smoking faster, when there's a lot of social interaction - here 3 people talking. People smoking alone, or having a conversation with one person (see f.e. A bout the souffle with Belmondo, speaking of old movies) tend to smoke slower. I think this has always been the case.
well i guess it could be fake i guess,if they do it for social purposes, kinda dumb if thats the case.tbhi guess that would just be habitual behavior not really NEEDING it but doing it out of social obligation or some shit...do you smoke QJ?i liked that guys shoes, and i love dectective movies..thats the end of my randomness
Dig your randomness cuz it matches my tendency toward abstract thinking. I smoked in secret for a short time in college, and I think it was because my roommate smoked in the room and I started getting cravings from breathing that air. Dammit, the stuff is addicting.
On another note, if I don't have a drink in my hand like everyone else at parties, that seems to freak people out. Holla! xo J
that "deep drag" would actually be called a hit.... like smoking weed you take a hit and hold it for 15 it to take full effect..... if you dont hold it you're a pussy
what a fantastic observation LOL as a smoker i very much agree with the comments below...I am certainly ashamed of smoking and have terrible fears, embarrassment and guilt around it and the body language displayed in your video shows I am not the only one. I kind of half inhale, often expelling half the smoke from my mouth before i inhale the rest (almost as stupid as the smoking itself) the funny thing is that I 'Polite smoke' even when I'm completely alone! hmmm
Very revealing ... do you realize, too, when you're in public, that you are being observed by all of we non-smokers who have never been able to figure out what it is about smoking that smokers like? LOL!
as a former smoker, it seems to me that what these particular smokers are in fact doing is what I like to call "polite smoking". They may not be aware of it consciously, or maybe they are - but on some level, they are actually either a) slightly guilty of their habit and are therefore attempting to be as discreet as possible with the act - by holding their cigarettes so low and away from their bodies or b) not 'guilty' per se but conscientious of possible non smokers around them ?
Oh, I get it. But, um, when all three in the group are smoking, can't they just enjoy the indulgence and inhale deep and long and exhale with grandeur? xo QJ
I can only speak for myself though - when I used to smoke, I used to go through these phases of enjoying the habit so much ('coffee and cigarettes' anyone?) to being a prisoner of it -- with my smoker friends, inbetween conversations I'd be thinking to myself "yuck.. just look at us.. out of breath, stinky, scrounging money for our next pack - what are we doing?!"

Yeah! I don't drink alcohol. I hate the shit. So I know exactly what you mean.
Or like you order an apple/orange/cranberry juice and people give you the funniest looks!
"YEAH. IT'S APPLE JUICE. WATCHA GONNA DO BOUT IT?!"
Cause it's SO NOT COOL to drink something other than alcohol, right?
