We used to pay these brave soldiers as if their country cared for or about them; that we as a nation valued their lives and appreciated their service. That is no more, and long gone by.
Compensation, allowances, incentives & separation bonuses for enlistments are a sick joke; a travesty, and insulting. Officers are little better, and there are ///way/// too many of Brass Hats to begin with.
Interesting, how the first successful big large-scale paratrooper mass-assaults (with the several first mass attacks of reliable gliders) aren´t even mentioned in this "documentary".
Years before the American attacks in this video even happened.
The German attacks in Europe.
Successful and highly professional paratrooper and glider attacks in 1940 and 1941.
Only to mention two names: Crete in Greece and Eben Emael in Belgium.
I hope this "documentary" isn´t shown in American schools.
@adrastea99 Actually the Soviet union had the first paratroopers. Simply because the parachute was meant to save airplane pilots only. They had the idea to put them on a soldier with weapons to deliver it from the sky
@caddyking444 The first serious consideration of using an airborne force dates back to WWI in 1918 by Americans but the war ended before the attack could be executed.
The first to actually drop a paratroop was Italy in the late 1920's.
Soviets formed the largest airborne unit in the late 1930's.
Germany organized an airborne unit in 1936.
Pretty much once the idea was out all the countries were doing it in WW2, Japan Poland France Italy UK US USSR etc.
First the Soldiers of my Country Germany were the first airborne military-missions in france and netherlands 1940 ! ! ! American Airborne just begun operations 4 Years later.
damn this is a high risk mission. And that isnt just the hard landing.Imagine if a anti air machinegun was firin on those paratroopers and their parachutes.A single 2 barreled AA gun could kill or wound them all.iLL go with the helicopters
@chrisjoneschrisjones yes, they are rolled up and placed in an aviator's kit bag, and turned in to a collection area on the DZ. In combat, they may be left in place, or bagged quickly and left in place, as when we jumped on airfields. Loose parachutes could endanger follow-on aircraft trying to land.
@DutchPetriot They are not assigned to combat arms units, but to combat support and combat service support units. But they are ultimately exposed to combat if they are in the theater.

One thing i admire about US armed forces is that they are well balance in everything including the organization itself...
they can operate in any country at a short notice and well equiped!
