  • terrible narrator

  • If you believe in a better world, one that encourages respect and equality. A world of freedom rather the repression. One where politicians and beurocrats fight for their people, not agaisnt them. You're preachin' the same ideals the hippies believed. Our current state of affairs needs more people voicing their concerns, look though out history, only if you demand these things & expand on these ideas will we ever have a worthy world. Don't allow politicians to take advantage of you anymore.

  • I saw the Haight st riots. Summer of 1969. Or was it 1968. But it was over. 1968 Sadie Hawkins Day in the park. Smoked hash with Alan Ginsburg! We did light shows. 1967 was the ideal year. It changed rapidly. This little documentary is good. Another big change happened in 1974. People stopped getting psych, philosophy, anthropology, etc degrees and began getting business degrees. The change was abrupt.

  • "Hippy is an establishment label for a profound, invisible, underground, evolutionary process. For every visible hippy, barefoot, beflowered, beaded, there are a thousand invisible members of the turned-on underground." .... I sense two things

    Another hippy movement

    Another revolution

Call me crazy but I think they are related.

  • te hippie generation did not prevail in the end...

but it made an impact that many generations will continue to read in history books and imitate... even if you think its wrong or stupid, you gotta respect the energy this culture had... simply beautiful.

  • @52298Morecraft

We do something by not going to war. If you and people like you joined in too, there wouldn't be any war.

I can't play guitar, by the way. I can however, build a house, cook, run a business, organize events, farm, massage, have fun, make friends, cure sick animals, debate, operate heavy machinery, shoot, drive, manage my finances, engage myself in the political and legal systems, act , read, and much more. I can also spell correctly the word NUKE.why are you an angry person?

  • It didn't work then because it was a bunch of people on drugs, high, not looking out for each other, too focused or unfocused on what mattered to survive. Don't tell me that we need to do all that again! We're still messed up from that, with kids still doing drugs like wannabes, but it is nothing but evil masquerading as cool. It's not good to do again. Even Ken Kesey said that it's time to move on. No going back.

  • do a doc on hippies and don t mention grateful dead shame on you

  • If the hippies aren't gone they need to bring it back into the public spotlight. Establish communes in suburban neighbourhoods, bring peace and love to a financially bankrupt America! Obviously their government has failed them so could a new hippie lifestyle be any worse?

  • what monsters have we become :'( let there be peace, starting with ourselfs and everything arround us! we know the solution!

  • Lets all be hippies! I am a new hippie! It's sad at my school, they think im soo wrong. :(

  • @AmandiMasen believe in yourself!

  • @angelinodecaesteker wow! I was starting to slip, but as you say this...Yes! I WILL! Thank u!

  • yeah i wish i was born back then too so i can bomb everyone of them for trashing our troops

  • @oregonwhitechick

for trashing the troops that killed and maimed young children and women, destroyed them with a painful horrible Napalm death? for trashing the troops that went with the purpose of killing innocent humans? and even after that they fucking LOST.

anybody that willingly kills innocent deserves all the trashing they get.

  • @ilovecristianzuniga So you could kill them all, yeah, me too.

  • @TheDiscerningGent Why would you kill them all? Do you feel threatened by them?

  • Anyone who thinks that hippies don't exist anymore has clearly never been to a rave.

  • Great Documentary.

  • Actually it never quite died out - not on this side of the pond anyhow I'm pleased to say. Yeah, we still got hippy kids.

  • 'all the dayglo freaks that used to paint their face, joined the human race'

  • @aaronamccoy Somethings will never change.

  • Freedom isn't free but the Marine Corps will pay most of your share

  • @ilovecristianzuniga Nae, you don't! The hippies where just some oddities in the fringe of society, and the average mindset where so rigid and victorian so it's hard to understand why not everyone where engaged in making a revolution!? But it was beacause the average dude where to rigid and narrow minded ofcause! (acording to todays standards...)

  • @ilovecristianzuniga Nae, you don't! The hippies where just some oddities in the fringe of society, and the average mindset where so rigid and victorian so it's hard to understand why not everyone where engaged in making a revolution!?

  • The hippie era was from 1965-72.

  • @morleygrey

It may have showed signs of rearing it's head in 1965. But i don't think it really started until 1967. A lot of the bands went through a transitional period and by 66 could see the hippie movement growing and jumped on it. Establised bands like The Byrds who started as folk rock and The Beatles who were pop rock soon evolved. But it was 67 when most hippie bands kicked off their careers! I think it died in 69 with the Manson murders, harder drugs and The Stones Altamont concert.

  • Errr ... how old were these interviewees at the time? Do you not know any old folks?

  • Errr ... how old was that woman during the 60s at 00:02 ?

  • What is the final song ?

  • jeeez. jenis is so emotional and cool!

  • Well done...The movement, the social influence effected..... The spotlight of historical reflection will shine increasingly with a positive glow over the influence of the era of the hippie. And musically speaking - oh yah! The soundtrack of those years of my youth is forever the best!!!

  • This was great to watch I gotta say. Good job!

  • insightful, but poor sound quality and short on the post hippie era effects.

  • Great documentary man, really enjoyed it!

  • Good job with this little doc.

  • I totally agree, I feel i should have been born back then. What I would give for the counterculture to be revamped. I think it is the duty of every pseudo-hippie to set an example for his fellow man. It is our job to get this culture back on track! Who's with me?

  • PLUR

  • You'd reconize a devil when they say fuck hippies lol, how can you hate a group who believe in peace and LOVE. The only cause that can make the world better. You can't make the world better with spreading hate can you? Ok then.. Anyway anyone traveling? Come pick me up I got my guitar ready.

  • who won?

  • wow fuck you

  • Uh how i'd wish to have a time machine and go back to the 60's listen to music and have fun AAAW godddy gawshhhhhhhhhhhh :D :p :p

  • bring back the hippy movement.

  • @ximesobadassx its comin man we just got to spread the knowledge

  • @420andsuch no doubt a similar time is coming along, the planets are aligning the same way they were in those times, but the same exact thing, probably not

  • @ximesobadassx It's happening man; tune in, turn on and drop out.

  • @ximesobadassx you could, just go out and get some people with the same basic views and go out and speak your opinion (and also open your mind to expirmentation haha)

  • @ximesobadassx

we can bring it back. YOU can bring it back. dont just sitting there wishing. DO something about it.

  • such a good song..thank you...THE DOORS ARE AMAZING!!!

  • Hey man,,why are u saying fuck hippies;if your watching this video.??sounds pretty wierd to me man?

  • hey friend someone has hacked my account, but this is from the real user, im not a hippie but hippies are awsome

  • Hippies for life man.!

  • hey man thats not cool, were all people so who says hippies are wrong? were all about the peace and love man, we respect u so plz respect us

    peace

  • hey whats with the bad attitude? hippies never done anybody harm

  • wasn't meant to have a bad attitude, i guess it is the way it wa worded

  • me and my friends have a hippie hunting group looking for hippies .

  • yea the hippies are definately not gone. hippies are just way more low key these days. Tons of them in Santa Cruz and Northern California in general.

  • if everybody was tinking like hippies, tere would not be war in this world.....

  • i was born in the wrong generation lol, just living free, loving music and life this what the 60's were about.

Now the world is more cynical

  • I was too dude! LOL I wish I had been born in the 40's and lived the 60's!

  • I totally agree too! I always say that I was born in the wrong decade. I wish I was part of the counterculture and the hippie movement.

  • oh my god i feel like im born in the wrong decade so much too

  • There is no born in the wrong decade. I have felt that in the past as well but the truth of the matter is that the movement is still moving. We are another generation of the same philosophy. Enjoy and love and embrace what we have. Maybe when the children of the next generation come and we have 3 generations of the same mentality we will be able to accomplish the establishment of a peaceful utopia.... Just a thought:)

  • @esands03 ......venus project anyone?

  • I've felt that too. But the truth is that they were the beginning of the movement - they were the explosion and the birth - but it is still alive. It is changing and evolving, but it is not dead. So do not mourn it as though it is something you've missed, or that is passed. Get out and take part in it now, and you'll find out that the movement is still very much alive.

  • i know that it is, but i would want to have been in that part of the counterculture and the birth of it. i know that it is still evolving, but i'm just a 50-some year old living in a 16 year old body. haha the 60s is just my decade for some reason. it's just calling me.

  • @jordanfan1023 bruh me too shit Hippies are fuckin amazin Im thinkin after Highschool move up to San frisico and try being a real hippie

  • @ackapollo noooooooooooooooo...... move somewhere and try and be a human not another fucking label

  • @DiamondDogsOG Its not a label man its a way of life

  • @ackapollo Haven't you heard? It's not hip to be a hippie anymore! (...the romours says. ;)

  • in your new age include education imagine educated hippies

  • im sick to shit of this world and all its hatred, im gunna try bring back the age of love! the recanation of the hippy,

it wont be the same, and it probably wont work, but i think i should try. i think we should try.

  • its all perception

  • man of course they're apart of American history but they're not gone one bit man...just look around you'll find us hiking somewhere or camping in a state park.

  • O.K., The Monterey Pop Festival did not INTRODUCE rock music to hippies!

  • gone but not forgotten

  • Nice Man This Is The only Documentry i like and MLK Jr.

  • What you see tells us who you are... What I see is who I am ... This is the generation that changed the world Revoloution in the streets of America Fighting to stop The Vietnam War Fighting to preserve the planet , clean the air, clean the water... Human Rights Civil Rights Equal Rights Ammendment So what have you done lately??? Easy to criticize what you perceive BUT... Your perception was wrong The World Is A Better Place thanks to a generation that believed in a dream

  • ya. txs to them we also got animal rights, pro abortion, pro legaliztion of drugs, etc. that was the generation that reduced morality to an object of ridicule. well i hope that my generation can right those wrongs.

  • So sad that you think government should legislate how to live. You need to be accountable to yourself , you don't want an abortion good don't get one, you don't like drugs good don't use them. What is sad is that you and the Religious Right Wing feel that your way of living is the only way, do us all a favor lighten up, enjoy life and stop acting so holier than thou. Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker , Rush (The Ultimate Idiot) Limbaugh all tell us what to do , but what is it that they all did!! Grow Up

  • do not tell me to grow up you simple minded idiot. abortion ends human life. if you knife your neighbor in the back you would be in jail but you can kill a helpless child with no legal repercussions. i never said government should regulate our lives. i meant that i want our generation to re-ignite a culture of intelligence and morals instead of the psuedoscientific bullshit we debunk everyday. hippies tell us we should live like neanderthals, why cant i tell others to live like intellectuals?

  • and last i checked, the people who act holier than thou are animal rights activists and other nut jobs who all resulted from the hippy movement. they keep trying to guilt us into doing ridiculous things that actually cause problems rather then solve them. i am not a holier than thou catholic, but i am a person who uses whats the called a brain. its nice, you should try it some time.

  • Sounds to me like nintendowns should go back to playing nintendo because as far as being intellectual he is clueless. Republican Right Wingers want no government intervention, less government, funny though, they want government to tell us all how to live to their standards. Their way is the only way, any other way has to be completely wrong. Who else thinks like them .... The Taliban , The Islamic Jihad and The Nazis. Guess what your ideas are obsolete and a new era is upon us.

  • look who is clueless, im not republican you dumbass, im an independant. your so called new era will never flourish. as long as humans have reasoning, reasoning will win.

  • the fact that you automatically assume im republican because im conservative just proves that you are the one with a holier than thou attitude.

  • and nice one btw, poking fun at my youtube name. because that one hasn't been pulled before. ignore the fact that i take 4 college courses and im 15 and a JUNIOR. i am an intellectual. im in the national honor society even. lets hear about your great accomplishments since you are obviously so much smarter.

  • No surprise to me, so much for being intellectual, you are a product of your parents , your enviroment and a recording of all those who surround you. You haven't been on the planet long enough to form your own opinions on anything, when you truly become a proggressive thinker an innovator instead of a repeater we can talk. Enjoy your journey through life, try not to judge what you don't understand.

  • i dont think for myself? i supported OBAMA, someone liberal even though im conservative. thats not thinking for myself? stop passing judgement on me, because despite your thinking optherwise, you do not know everything, especially anything about me. i form my own opinions on everything. i tell other people MY opinions, not the other way around. the only thing i shall repeat is this,"i am a person who uses whats the called a brain. its nice, you should try it some time."

  • there is nothing open-minded about voting for obama, his policies are the same as everyone elses. bigger government, increase troops in afghanistan, not challenging the fiat money system. just a clone with a different face

  • actually he want more troops in afghanistan cause we actually need to fight there unlike iraq.

  • first of all you ignored my other criticisms of him and second of all why do you need to fight there? is it osama, do you really think mre troops will find him and plus apparently hes in pakistan anyway.

  • by voting for obama i meant that i went against what most people around me were thinking and therefore i think independently of them.

  • thats hardly thinking independent of them. actually quite the opposite. that is the 'rebel without a cause' way of thinking. going against someone else's opinion is not forming your own it is just contrasting theirs.

  • wow uve missed the point entirely. ok let me explain. my choice for candidate was naither based on others opinions or just a rebel mindset that opposes the common opinion. my opinion is mine, made up by myself, and is independent of other opinions. that clear and unambiguous enough for you to stop twisting?

  • what about you? every thing you spouted from your mouth ive heard a hundred other times from every other hippy. are you not copying the words of the hippy movement?i grew up in a generation of rap, promiscuous sex, and hippies. i surpassed all of that with MY own opinions. i like classical music and jazz. iseverly oppose alternative medicine, and try to convince my mom to do the same. im porbably one of the most independent of my generation. think before you spout your next comment of bullshit.

  • well im probably two yers older than you, and i felt the same way you did once, acually when i was about 15, i grew up conservative and all that stuff, always been an itellectual, and always felt my generation was a bunch of retards. Now i'm a little bit older and i've came to realize that you can put every ounce of your brain into fighting someone about your opposing beleifs, but your not really gonna change anyone till they see a light for themselves. im runnin out of room so i'll continue.

  • anyways after i came to this realization i became a very progressive thinker. i opened up my mind to all sorts of possibilities and ways of living i used to cling to government i used to defend society but i came to realize society was my operating system and I love my country but our government needs to go. we dont have to live like neandrathals all we have to do is love and help one another no matter what they beleive if we all did that all social problems would cease Peace brother

  • you will rarely find someone as skeptical as the government as i. but a govt. is neccesary. if there is no governemnt there is no portection. think about it. who will stop all 0our enemies from coming here and massacring us? its that simple. we need a governemtn to protect us and we need the right to arms to protect our rights .

  • A government is no needed for human beings to live peacefully. People are perfectly able to protect themselves and their investments if one truely wishes to do so. Government is just a useless form of order in a world where nothing need work in a structure. Systems don't have to be in place for live and people to function, they just will. And a government is the only reason we have enemies in the first place. Countries and borders are invisible boundries that generate hate beyond imagining.

  • wake up. america has resources and enemies. what do you think will happen? which army will stop our enemies? which government will establish allies? think. i will say it again. THINK!

  • ahh thats a pig soiund ehahdskgjnf

  • lsd makes u think outside the box

  • Lsd makes you go bonkers. I took it, but luckily I am ok. Mooooooooooooo oiinnkkk weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • lsd makes you see

  • i dont think the hippie movement is dead..many people still are hippies a lot of young people such as myself live in a very hippie way.I agree that it is not as strong as before but many generation x ers who were kids of hippies became hippies too.i dont really live like a hipster I live like a hippie and I share the ideals language and fashion so its not dead for me

  • fuck yes come to rainbow! ahhhh im such a hippie haha

  • i love my rainbow family :)

  • anyone who claims themself as a hippie is not a hippie.

  • anyone who states someone anything has not understood something.

  • it doesn't matter what you claim yourself to be. "i am what i am". - popeye. if you were a yuppie, and you said you were a yuppie, you'd still be a yuppie. if you were a cop, and you said you were a cop, you'd still be a pig.

    i mean , a cop...

  • i wish i was alive in that era

  • yeah man, this is shame we live now than before

  • RIP jimi hendrix =[

    he is my idol!

  • jimmi hendrix hated hippies

  • oh right jimi hendrix was still alive; my years are all screwed up

  • i love the doors...

  • Just putting the Word out to Everybody! There's gonna be a Summer of Love this year around the bay area in California starting this spring! Come to San Francisco! Bring your friends! This generation is finally starting to find itself! Everybody is welcome! There's a movement growing out there... it's time our elders see what this generation can do. I'll see you at the Haight this year! Peace!

  • fuckinf awesome

  • where did all the flowers and happiness go man!

  • man , listen , this is coming back , grow your hair everyone , its fukin coming back , ill see you in san fransisco . in may 2008 . be there and bring your fukin guitars anmd chicks . peace ...............

  • we're all wired into a survival trip now. none of that fuel that fueled the 60's. that was the fatal flaw in tim learys trip, running around selling conciousness expansion unaware of the grim meathook realities that lay ahead. his loss, is ours too.

  • Anyone who want to change the world, lets all converge on california and come out and have a sit down and think together. bring some cash, but be ready to share with everyone. EVERYONE is invited, but we should all agree to promote peace and harmony. (oh and no fighting, cause that's what messed up woodstock 99.) What do you guys think?

  • BIG thumbs up

  • I'm down.

  • Yeah that would be a great thing, something positive. It would also show the entire world that not all of us Americans are for power, death and destruction (war, famine and global warming). I was born during the "hippie era" but if I was older, I would have been one, at least promoting love and peace. Too bad the world and people's attitudes have gone down the infamous pooper.

  • a question: is it possible for punks and hippies to get along ?

  • The two are the same. Punks just tend to be more into the urban scene while hippies are more rural.

  • huhh???? i dont know abotu that.

  • The philosophy is the same: anarchy, free love, no war, etc...unless you're talking about straightedge where the only difference is no drugs, no sex, more conformity.

  • oh ok i gotcha, makes sense. free love is a good idea.

  • oh sure just let it happen it's all about music. yes other things sex, drugs, but it was the music that drove us.

  • I was both hippie and punk. Good music transends all boundries.

  • I was part of this generation/movement where we

changed the world..but now the free thinking has

progressed into mass consumerism and everyone is only thinking of themselves.

  • how do we fix it ? i want to fix it, we need to fix this

  • that we verbalize that it needs to be fixed, as you have, says we can. You lead this time ;) I believe in you. Let's all go green asap how bout it. lets not compete lets progress, let's help each by sharing a ride, let's be like neighborly and exchange real homade recipies. WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD.

  • Great generation were the 60s and early 70s, Now we live in the most conservative me myself generation. Nothings original. Young people are aggressive, negative consumerites. Tragic!
