We were watching this in my Health Science Tech 2 class, I don't see how she let us watch it with all the cussing it had in it! I'm glad she did though!
I met a missionary once, who was very proud that his church had convinced a tribal group on some island, that God would protect them from some scary demons that lived in the local forest.
Apparently it never occured to these idiots that deadly viruses might be considered demons to the uneducated locals.
Would serve them right if they succumbed to a demon/virus for being so stupid.
Dustin Hoffman is great as usual! love the scene with him washing the dogs, the same happened when my aunt tried to give bath to her dog... for the rest of the movie of course, its heavy but there is some connection to reality just with other names. If u see the documentary, In LIes we trust, u will know what i am talking about.
To the reston ebola virus or REBOV outbreak reference as to this movie's inspiration...it can't be. That is the only one out of a total of four "filoviruses" characterized thus far that is nonpathogenic to humans, therefore cannot make humans sick at all, but can cause lethal disease in nonhumans (primates) FYI...I would say the inspiration was captain trip's disease as written about and made into a movie ('94) called "The Stand" by Stephen King. Only difference is the gestation/death period.
Also, the 1995 Kikwit epidemic might have partially inspired this, but the Reston incident was definitely the inspiration for the virus going airborne (sorry for spoilers, everyone.)
i dont understand what you a saying mate. hehe but it could happen, (hantaVirus, Lassa Fever) are just some of thoes who could fuck it up for us in the world xD
@sybaris720 Yeah that was an omssion by the makes of this film, seeing that there is no cure or will ever be a vaccine for HIV given its rapid mutational ability that has amazed scentists over the years.
in britain over 100,000 ppl are infected yet only 20 have died most of the others have made a full recovery and those who died were kids and people with other medical conditions it would be really hard for the swine flu virus to get past a adult immune system swine flu is just a bad cold sooner people shut up an forget bout it the better
i realy hate how everyone is worried about the swine flu epidemic its not as deadly as they make out its just another strain of flu an yeah swine flu has killed couple hundred worldwide but ordinary flu kills thousands dont worry about it your not worried about ordinary flu and that is actually worse then swine flu
wrong, h1n1 has killed 5,000 worldwide and sickened millions. its kiled 2,000 in the sates alone. its killed 12 in my county. And swine flu is much more intense than the seasonal flu, yes, all cses in the states have been minor, but i had it, i know what it feels like. The minor swine flu feels 5 times worse than the seasonal. and the swine flu has a much higher mortality rate than seasonal.
a year has gone an swine flu has been forgotten just like bird flu al these flus there all the same unless your old or really young or health problem you should be fine nothing to worry about
well all i know about the swine flu is that there is a vaccination because rupert grint had it and he recoverd and it is also a mixture of human bird and pig dieses combined and i try not to think about it because u dont know if u have it and u dont know if someone u know has it so i stay inside all day and play video games passes the time
I believe there is hope against swine flu, I bet just like the 1918 flu epidemic it will be weakend by the coldness of winter causing less cases and deaths, and isn't there a vaccine? just take the measurements told to avoid and you will be safe
Swine flu is so overblown i would know i had it, basically the "flu" only you cough alot more and only a very small percent of people end up in a hospital because of it and even less die of it, the common flu is much more deadly and wide spread
Just because a virus reaches pandemic level 6 does not mean that the entire human race will be wiped out. Look at Swine Flu for example. Ebola is spread less readily than influenza and if anything health experts have said that it will be a new strain of Influenza rather than a disease such as Ebola that will do the most damage on a pandemic scale, the Spanish flu of 1911 is proof enough of that.
There is no such thing as "pandemic level 6". The World Health Organization rates the spread of an outbreak from phase one (the virus first appears) to phase six (pandemic).
the virus are the one that attaches to the host then it goes to pandemic and worse like this disease if not treated when it goes to pandemic lvl 6 = human race wiped out experts says that ebola virus probably wipe out the human race in the near end of ice age....

the ebola virus is actually not as bad as it sounds. it attacks the lining of the blood vessels and causes bleeding from the eyes, nose, and mouth. it also causes people to easily bruise and early symptoms resemble the common cold or influenza
Hemorrhage is not necessarily present in all hemorhagic fever patients, or at least not profound bleeding. Ebola also causes things such as kidney failure and liver failure, each of which may cause death.
Not all Ebola victims die in a puddle of blood, with reddish black slime oozing out of their mouths. The degree of hemorrhage, if any, varies from patient to patient.
@redeyedol Interesting but unfortunately the boys in Hollywood like the extreme nature of this disease and not its real variants. Exaggerate the bleeding victims too everyone infected with Ebola virus, you get more who will want to see the film and thus there make more money at the box office.

it was based off of the Ebola virus which can come back at anytime! It is considered the most deadly virus on Earth! Doctors say the=at if it turned into a pandemic, then the human race could virtually be wiped out! Thats scary. This is a nasty virus that has a 5% survival rate.
