I am training to include this technique in my form training as it is a high level skill. This technique has been used by some pretty high level practitioners in pushhand presentations. If ones root is strong and silk-reeling is well cultivated this is the ultimate technique against an opponent that has had trouble with the first four gates of grappling defense and wishes to push, pluck or grasp to uproot. Wu Mengxia talks about this in his annotations on the 13 Character Dilligence Song.
My meditation is really leading me to great teaching methods and information. I am at a point in my study of internal boxing wherin this method of ultra-clinching silk-reeling is very awesome. This knowlede is indespensible for my evolution of the of my form and functonal t'ui shou application. I have just begun too integrate tiger and mantis movements to my Forms and Equipment training. This is substantial and insubstantial movement cultivated to extreme effectiveness. I will integrate it.
I'm sure that this style could have a lot of powerfull and smart applications for modern street fighting, but training it like a geriatric centre will not allow this (I'm not referring to this teacher but I can notice a similarity with "oldie" class mates of Tai chi).

@acquafredda75 perhaps you have different goals in your training.
