Hey all of you Brooklyn cats... check this out. Me and my DJing partner spun records at dance clubs in the 1980s in Madison, WI. This EP was our ace in the hole. We'd hold it out until we had the house in a frenzy and this one would take it over the top, EVERY TIME. We were the only ones who owned this. I bought it in at Downtown Records on 7th Avenue in the summer of 1984. We were no KISS FM djs, but this gave us some cred. BTW, there is a new remix on myspace.
Tuff beats...Imperial... Unfortunately Alisha's vocals sound a bit too much like Bonny Tyler... Better when the production speeds them up, like UK Rave circa 91.
My Favorite, love the dub version too! I saw a copy of "Star gazing" today, should go back and get. I'm from the San Francisco and this was hard to find. The first time i went to NYC in 1987, I walked 12 blocks to get to Vinyl Mania to get this in the rain. I was shocked that they had a stack of them and all these other rare records at $3.99. I miss those days I would climb Mount Everest to get my records!
o man this song brings back sooo many memories. i remember when i first heard this song i thought that it was madonna because alicia's sound on this song so closely resembled madonna's back then. great song, great memories; i wish i could go back to that place in time, life was a lot simpler then.
Another one in my collection, after more than 26 years. Bought it at J&R Music World 6/1/84, on a run from my HS across the BK Bridge and back. When I got back, I heard from one of my track teammates that Alisha was only FIFTEEN when she recorded this! My jaw dropped.
@CookyMonzta omg....dude i remember going to j&r music world too!!!!!! here in chicago j&r, rose records, peaches records and see hear records were THE places to go to get your vinyl fix!!! and you're right, alicia WAS only fifteen when she recorded this song. i was just days away from graduating from high school when this song came out and it's been one of my favourites for over 25 years.
I was just transfered to I.S.74 on Bryant Avenue near Hunts Point in The Bronx when this joint aired on the original WKTU(92.3 FM),WRKS(98.7 Kiss FM),and WBLS(107.5 FM) while I was in the middle of the 7th grade with 69ers with fat laces on my feet. Now those were the days unlike now in this so-called day and age.
Listening to this song makes me want to grab a can of spray paint, tie a colorful bandanna around my huge head and bust out corny 80's breakdance movie moves in my office.
yeah i used to snort lines of pineapple cocaine inmy studio apt in oakland before i got on the train to the clubs in SF in my early 20s w/ freestyle classics like this and anything from safire on my ipod, now i just pound red bulls and study at the library til midnite trying to get that Phd degree- but i never 4get how amped i get off of this cut, haha
@oldschoolbx1970 werrd music now sucks the singers now have no creativity to their lyrics they just write any crap and make a million dollar record wtf lol thats why my ipod has 95% stuff from the 80's and 5% stuff from the 2000's
HOLY CRAP!!! A huge classic and one of my all-time favorites!!!! I haven't heard this since I was 9!!! This song received heavy airplay here in Chicago and I'm still lovin it!!! You just don't know how much you've made my day by uploading this classic song!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for this, and thank you so much for bringing me back to Dance Classics Lane!!! (okay, I'll shut up now lol). 60 stars and added to my playlist :-)
THIS SONG BRINGS BACK THE BEST TIMES I'VE EVER HAD , DISCO BUNNIES , TRUCK CLUBS, LIKE THE DREAM TOYZ ( STRAWBERRY) , SAN GABRIEL HIGH, MI CASITA, HOUSE PARTYS ,CRUISING......
Alisha is one of the best singers of the 80's and 90's. She never got the recognition she deserved. Madonna ruined her career on purpose. Alisha is still around performing and on Myspace and Facebook.
And TV, OMG: MTV- Actually played MUSIC VIDEOS 24/7 and we did'nt even know what 'Reality Show's', because most networks played ENTERTAINING SHOWS Instead. Remember TGIF and Saturday nite special? Golden Girls, Amen, 227, Nurses, Night Court, etc.? Those were the days.
a nyc club classic,at the legendary Funhouse, people would line up for hours for a chance to dance with queers, trans, and any one who loves great music mixed to sublime perfection by NYC best mixmaster dj,Yellybean Benitez!!
@gmccall22 It's debatable that Madonna sounds like Alisha. A quick check on wikipedia shows that All Night Passion was released on EP in 1984 when Madonna was in an NYC studio recording Lucky Star and Into the Groove. Madonna has long taken dance music sounds mainstream. You had to know where to find Alisha's EP. But the albumn Like a Virgin was widely available.
It wasn't just on the west coast :-). In Miami, Z Cavariccis were EVERYWHERE. I thought they looked so bad!! But I bought them anyways just to fit in, LOL. They made you look like you had monster quads.
Ha Ha, If you mention Coupe DeVilles (with boomin systems) & Hair spray in the 80's, let's not forget about EO/NWK!! I was young but I do remember....
man do i miss those days. the girls wer HOT always wearing matching earings and high pumps with there teased up hear and stiff stuff hair spray. they were bad!! please god bring those days back.

Classic 80s electro tune. Reminds me going to underground dances downtown in Fresno circa 83/84/85.
