Every car will be reliable as long as you take care of it properly... but in terms of not taking care of them and still working - old BMWs are proof that this company knows how to build a car. Still running with minimum issues - 1991 BMW 5 series - 340.000km. They rule. Period.
As for reliability, my BMW has been bullet proof so far in 18 months and 34000km. I guess CR gets its info from the big picture, but it's never matched my anecdotal life!
The whole reliability thing is not consistent. The only thing that's true is that German car's replacement parts are more expensive, but just because it's more expensive doesn't mean that its unreliable. Most German cars have the same reliability as Japanese, it's just that more people complain about a German car than Japanese one.
When they were talking about how much the smallest sound the car makes matters... I couldn't agree more! My 1994 BMW beeps when there's something wrong.. and I fix it IMMEDIATELY, because I hate that sound! It also beeps intermittently when I'm in reverse so I adjust my driving and parking style so I don't have to reverse :D
Acura, Lexus, Infiniti have better reliability?? Consumer Reports is a JOKE, Those 3 are useless appliances, and Infinitis are just plain garbage. BMW is 10 times the car any of those could ever dream of being, CR is a bunch of clowns with an Asian agenda and completely skewed and inaccurate data.
You are correct. Without BMW and Mercedes, Lexus wouldn't know what to copy, I mean build. What a joke. As soon as women and metro men began picking our cars like they do toasters, it started commoditizing cars and driving out all the individuality. Where is the pride in craftsmanship gone??? Who gets enthused over these suppository looking vehicles?? Look at a 57 Chevy or 67 Corvette, etc. It's alive and well - at BMW. GM could start over at 1955 and sell more cars!
@jaketredy Hey retard, just had one in the shop today. BMW 325i with 221,000 miles. You need to stop using the internet, you're just too damn stupid.
I am a big fan of German cars. I have owned a BMW and now own a MB. They are engineered to drive and crash on the Autobahn. Love saying that! I was in a chauffeured driven Audi A8 W12 the other day. Now that's a bingo!!!!
