i remember the very first time i listened to devin townsend and syl... i was 5... and i loved them. hell, i still do. i go to every concert i can. i hung out with rvp and devin a few times. they're amazing and really nice and cool. can't wait to see them again.
is ocean machine a group of it´s own playing on the devin townsend-record biomech? i dont get it. in the video it says "ocean machine feat devin townsend". is this not a devin-record all over? that´s what i always thought anyhow..
@VargAgraVMaugrim Ocean Machine, like Strapping Young Lad, was a Devin Townsend project. "Biomech" was initially issued as an Ocean Machine release. Townsend's name was included in the title later on.
@TH3PIONEER im happy to be a fan of syl since the very beginning, it is incredible that Devin still makes music that is amazing, deconstruction and ghost surpassed my expectations once again! this dude is just a great composer and musician!
My life is all that I've known And it's all that keeps me here My time is all that I own So I won't let it slip away... How long can this life go on Who we are what we are... I'll see you on the other side Wouldn't you rather live it on your own Even when it bends you over So when it comes time to go home You don't let them fade away... How long can this all go on? How long till it's over? And how long till it all comes down? ...And how bad do we need a new reminder?
Yes, but initially his first album was by a band called "ocean machine" and the album name was "biomech". This was later changed to Devin Townsend being the name of the band/project/artist and Ocean Machine: Biomech being the album title.
Hi! Spamming here to inform DT fans that we have an album coming soon, hope you don't mind, and i hope you check it out, you might just like it! Search for "Koi debut album trailer" Cheers! /Koi
this song has giving so much to me! it´ s really simple lyric, but you get it, and it has that oceanic lovely feel like the rest of the album has, it´ s my personal classic! You can´ t find music similar to that!
This song is one of my favorite ever. It makes me feel happy, it makes me want to live my life at my best, to not waste time, to not care about what is going to happen or when I'm going to die. I love Devin Townsend's naive attitude in this video, it makes you realize that you are nothing when compared to the power of life. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but this is what I see in this song. Biomech is the album of my life. Devin is not only a genius, but also an "explorer of human feelings"!
@ducadimantova91 Well said I totally agree, seeing Dev play this life back on the 4th March was amazing, its such a positive sounding song and makes me buzz. I have so much man love for this dude. :D
He never shaved it. He started losing it when he was 19. He just decided to keep it long on the sides. Because it kicks so much ass it's unbelieveable
indeed devin townsend once did have good hair. He was very cool looking back then, though he was losing his hair rapidly during the mid-late 90's. Its a shame but hey, it doesnt stunt his power&talent! he doesnt go by the name of samson fortunately! lol ocean machine and infinity alongside terria i think are amongst his best albums.
It's so sad that Devin got fucked over on this video. You can see the whole "green background" and "Devin superimposed over the water" stuff that initally was gonna be something much more effective but just didn't get finished and how sad that truly is:(
I love Strapping and his solo stuff but I'll never get sick of the time Dev made an album with an actual rhythm section, and dang, what a rhythm section!
thats exactly what I thought! It bugs me everytime I listen to this song (which is very, very, very, very often - Devin is my god). Although I'm beginning to think it may have been before a South Park episode (watched on the internet).
You know thinking about it, I may have heard this to like several movies. Either way this song is always awesome. I usually dont listen to such mellow music but anything Devin Townsend makes is awesome.
even if he does look like a total tool in this video :D
tbh, I'm kindof glad that SYL have come to an end (for the moment) as they've been kinda treading water since City (their other albums are fantastic BUT it just doesn't seem like Dev's heart is in SYL as much as his solo stuff). Hopefully he'll get really pissed off again and then SYL will be re-birthed. He's still a genius, regardless.
i don't think that devin would ever let that happen - SYL was a reaction to how he saw the music business (whilst working with Steve Vai) and it's always been heavy! Plus, he's well established as a solo artist, so he's always got that as a creative outlet for his less-than-death-metal-crazyness. Devin could never 'sell-out' as such - he's too widespread an artist to ever be held in by any genre-boundaries
Yeah your right. I hope whatever Dev does next is awesome. I dont care if its SYL or his own solo stuff I want to hear some more stuff. I hope he gets off that break soon
He has a personality that let's him promote things and draws other people in to listen without degrading himself in any serious sense. With that in mind, I don't see why his music would take any turn in that direction, so dontchya worry.
It depends on what do you mean when you say "without heart" Devins SYL albums are the best anti society/human/existence/whatever albums ive ever heared, your heart has to be flled with hate to write such stuff. But I agree his solo stuff is beyound everything even syl I must say , but you cant swallow all the time so he kicks our asses with SYL ! \m/
This is a truly brilliant song from a truly brilliant album. It's amazing to see the lead singer of Strapping Young Lad, a brutal dark metal band, singing with a completely different soul, emotion and atmosphere.
with its unparalleled power and soul wrenching emotion, Biomech is the greatest album ever made. Devin captures the very essence of generational transition, the pain and sorrow that comes with the awareness that wondrous, carefree youth is at an end and the terrifying loneliness and empty drudgery of adulthood has begun.
