  • Why can't I like this more than once?

  • This is one of the best songs I have EVER heard. Illinoise is one of the most interesting records of the decade. However. This version is VERY disapointing

  • His album, "Come On Feel the Illinoise" is very polished, professional and densely-layered. So it would be too much for his live performances to match up.

That being said, I have watched several videos of Sufjan Steven's live performances and have come to the conclusion he is a very poor performer. And he has surrounded himself with some very amateurish backup musicians.

Come on, you have to admit this is a dreadful performance. It sounds like a hastily rehearsed high school talent show.

  • the trumpet has obviously been drinking, because he's fucking up even the simplest lines.

I think Sufjan is a fine performer. You have to remember you're judging this based on a cam taken from the crowd.

Check out his performance on austin city limits, it's pretty good IMO.

  • In an interview Sufjan said that he "likes to think of his performances as sounding like a grade six band." His courage to not have "polished" performances highlights something very unique about him. Don't watch the video, just listen to it. His voice is still very amazing.

  • @DFDalton1962 my highschool band was the winner of many awards, so I'd say thats a good thing to sound like.

  • bien décevante je trouve cette version live..

la chanson perd tout son coté posée tranquille..

  • EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "of having been at last forgoooooot"

omg sufjan if u are out there, i'm yours!!!

  • You have to get past me, first!!!

  • *small towns*

  • wooooooo go sufjan i live in j-town thats Joliet illinois for you non-illini folk. and yes modell naming alot of small times like that means he did do his homework very impressive

  • Having lived in Illinois all my life, I'm quite impressed on how a non-native like Stevens seems to know a lot more about the state than I do...he's certainly done his homework!

    And go Illini!! :)

  • LUCKY.

    you live in illinois.

  • this song is strange, i live in kankaee >_<

    not really a ghost town...

    lol

but its cool none the less, the song has a haunting melody too it. :D

  • Good song, but I don't think they mixed it very well...

  • this is really good video. love the song.

  • who is the girl? any relative to sufjan?

  • Katrina Kerns. She used to be a ford model, might still be. I think she has an album out too. Gorgeous creature.

  • I love the song, but I don't think the instruments mingle well in this live version. The acoustics are really bad at this venue, or it's just the camera

  • Illini shirts!!

  • He sounded way better in Stockholm this wednesday. Unfortunately he never sung this song.

  • That trumpet player is terrible.

  • don't ever bash craig, he's better than your mother

  • Not at trumpet.

  • this craig fellow is really botching(sp) most of his parts, the trombone player wasn't much better.

  • Funky as all fuck. I was hoping for the three-part-harmony action at the end, but I guess that's kind of hard to replicate live.

    chs

  • i love this song!

  • Great video!
