@EMPIRE01233 Not by the Mandate bill of 1922 (the league of nations) and subsequent decisions leading to the establishment of Israel by the United Nations in 1948. Israel was defined as a "National Home for the Jewish ppl" beginning from the Balfour declaration of 1917. This is the legal basis for my country.

Of course that in 1948 the decision also called for an Arab state along side Israel, but the Arabs rejected that decision and attacked.

The Jewish population of Israel is roughly divided in half to Sephardi and Eastern Jews from Arab nations of the ME and Jews from all others parts of the world, many of whom are Ashkenazim. There are also many Jews who never left Israel and stayed even under the Romans (E.G the Pekiin community). There was a continuous Jewish settlement.

@klscott5 Easy to answer: The ten tribes were driven away by the Assyrians in the 8th century BCE. From then up to the birth of christ and beyond, Israel was settled with the tribes of Judea and Levi alone. In Roman times, prior to the Bar Kokhba revolt, Judea was already a synonym with Israel for more then 600 years, since the return from the Babylonian exile. Judaism is a misleading term, as this was the religion of all of Israel, not only of the tribes of Judah and Levy.
