  • this song (among many country classics) brings back wonderful memories of family road trips...my sister and I sang along to every song my momma played despite the fact that we tried to make her believe we couldn't stand country music (after growing up in the city) but my mom is the reason country music is embeded into my roots...it's funny how we come to appreciate the little things as adults that we didn't really pay any mind to as children.

  • I'm 16 and I love every one of Johnny's songs.

  • I listened 2 Johnny Cash since I was a young boy. Even though I'm 16, I still listen.

  • Im only 13 and i love Johnny Cash ! R.I.P :(

  • everyone who says bad things about Jhonny Cash, just cant appreciate beutiful things

  • my dad would sing this song at the most inappropriate, awkward, and just plain ridiculous times, like weddings and funerals. i never knew why but i miss it.

  • this is always a classic in my eyes =). best song by cash himself

  • played this at my Dad's funeral, could not listen to it for years after but now I listen to it and remember my Dad with a smile.

  • @abbyissexyasfuck and with a hardon.

  • This is great...If ya like Johnny Cash Check out Banjostu11 a band called FOLKGRASS from England they do some great Cash songs with a banjo twist, sounds good.

  • He is right though, Singing does help a troubled soul. <3

  • Thats not bass. Here is a Swedish singer from the 70's . Now thats what I call BASS voice! He sings about a little hobby locomotive engine.

Pierre Isacsson - Då går jag ner i min källare

  • @tobias964 do you know the definition of bass genius? take your commi shit and leave

  • kanye twitty hahah love it!!! conway

  • Johnny was a genius. Love all of his songs ♥

  • Has anyone noticed that Kanye Twitty is a lame mix of Johnny Cash and Elvis?

  • @potsocket it conway twitty, not kanye

  • Back then when I was young, you knowed how to sing and not just beat on the drums. Love this song.

  • June Carter was sure pretty..she looked alot like my mother..

  • ok, i'm 14 and i remember listening to this song on saterday nights, riding in the car with my mom when i was like 5. It brings back such wonderful memories of a hppier, simpler time. I love this song!

  • Dam Johnny's voice can go deeep as hell

  • @bigmathafaka It sure could! Saw him live in 1982, his voice was even more dark and awesome on stage!

  • I love this song!

  • song of the day...

  • no the circle wont be broken

  • I love this song a ton me and my parents are not close and I don't know if they believe anymore but I do and I have the family I never got to meet and a friend who died young but we were really close waiting for me so hearing this song makes this whole messed up world worth living through because God loves me through my flaws

  • they do the chorus of this on a scene from the show "six feet under" it's real good.

  • This song really speaks to me. Makes me think about my family.

  • I lost my dad a week ago; dad and I are JC fans, and this was one of his favorite songs (and mine). I appreciate the sublime truth of the lyrics now more than ever.

  • Love the song & Rebel oin black.

    RIP Johnny & June.

  • I'm 16 n Elvis is my hero n i love Johnny Cash aswell. Without them most of the music today wouldn't exist

  • awesome song!!!

  • Does anyone know what that last clip was from? Some kind of home movie or something (interview?)

    Thanks!

  • @AwesomeMullet69

it's from JOHNNY CASH:THE MAN, HIS WORLD, HIS MUSIC.

  • R I P SIR JOHNNY CASH !!

  • im 15 and i love this song. idc if its an oldie i love it.

  • You will see the longer you live the oldies are allways the best. You should get one of his box sets. Johnny Cash is one of the greats. You will love lots of his songs.

  • im 15 too man if they dont like johnny cash they can shut the hell up who cares how old it is this was when country was good man keep johnny cash alive!!!

  • Im 14, and id care how old it is either, i still think johnny cash is the best and we need to keep his music alive.

  • @colts12241 same!!!

  • Couldn't agree more with you.

  • @colts12241 same. music doesnt degrade with age. great music is great music

  • @colts12241 Hey, I'm not even thirteen, and ALL I like are oldies... Am I weird? :P

  • @Falcon4761 No, I was the same. Oldies are great because it's about the music...I was the same way because my Dad raised me on the great stuff. I can't settle for today's music after all the great stuff I was able to love. Your not weird! You just know what music is supposed to sound like!

  • @colts12241 More power to you! Never be put off by something just because it's old.

  • Good ole song. Love it.

  • love the video. nice work. ya i have to agree to who ever said that they don't know why they didn't show some of this type in the movie.

  • He is the Man in Black, but he also walked in the light, as evidenced by this song. To bad that Walk the Line movie hardly showed any of this.

  • Hear me out. I am a great fan of Cash, but how do you describe his voice. He's not a classically trained singer but he can carry a melody. Yet sometimes he sounds like he's talking but talking IN TUNE. Once again, Cash has a great voice, but how can one describe it?

  • "Once again, Cash has a great voice, but how can one describe it?"

    How's this for a start:

It's the pure, natural, and unfiltered song of the heart and soul of a sincere man, acknowledging he was inspired by, and with talent given by the grace of, the Almighty.

  • this video was a A+ for me. it was made very well.

  • You must lose Satan before you can find GOD. JESUS is waiting to show you the way.

  • I remember hanging out with Johnny backstage, good times. RIP.

  • soo lucky

  • The Carter family AND the Statler Brothers are on this record. I saw the show in person in New Orleans years ago. What a troupe!!!

  • Thank you for this man!

  • This is seriously how I picture heaven! Johnny Cash singing the truth!!! What a wonderful talent!

  • i listen to johnny cash and i can see the silver lining behind the clouds

  • Priceless Footage.

  • Johnny Cash!!!! My favorite artist, with only one flaw. His songs are too short :( I wish every song was 10 times as long

  • is it june carter? after daddy sang bass

  • That is June and I believe the guys are the Gatlin Brothers. You want to learn more about J.C. Check out johnnycash.c0m.

  • thank you!!! Ilove johnny and June they are the best!! ;)

  • bubohs1 has it right, it is June .... the lyrics are "mama sang tenor" hence, the woman, and "me & litle brother" are the Gatlin boys. This is one of my favorite songs!

  • I actually think that "mama sang tenor" was Jan Howard. I know live that it was June but I think the recorded version was Jan.

  • It wasn't the Gatlin Brothers, it was the Statler Brothers.

  • I'd say so, too. It was John, the original Tennessee Three (Luther Perkins, Marshall Grant, W.S. Holland), Carl Perkins on additional guitar and the Statlers as the little brothers. Not sure about "mama" though, I don't think it's June Carter, though. If there is any possibility for it being Jan Howard, I'd bet it's her.

  • I agree with Johi

  • Thanks ;-)

  • me and little brother would join right in there#

second voice of the choir sounds best in this version

  • I think he had second bass voice when he was yonger because he was hittin' a BASS C

  • pretty neat to see johnnys parents

  • best version of this on youtube... thanks!
