  • Damn you cranky kong! Stop disliking all these 3D games! Face it, your're old.

  • I look forward to going through this part of the game in my Let's Play because of the music and because it's my favorite level in the game :D

  • 3:12

    Was that Grunty I hear?

  • @Toadboy10 it WAS Grunty!

  • Even to this day, if anyone came to me asking for good music to set the mood on Halloween, I would have to recommend DK64's Creepy Castle themes.

  • Oh for me 5:53 is the scariest!!!

  • You know what I find kinda strange? I don't remember even going into the Crypt as a kid and I NEVER heard that music, yet I still got Sniper shot and Funky was found in there O.o

Haunter Ballroom Brouhaha = love. I've always adored how twisted and demented the music sounded with those demonic laughs in the back ground :D

  • 5:23

the organ backdrop reminds me of mad monster mansion

  • I fucking love rare's creepy titles.... just saying. I could listen to this stuff all day... that's actually kinda what I'm doin right now.. :/ it's been like 2 hours now of listening to rares music for video games on youtube xD

  • Ah . . . nostalgia. I was terrified to go to the ballroom and the crypt (?) when I was little. After my first time there I didn't enter it for many years . . .

Rare sure knew how to scare kids and make great games, if this isn't scary, nothing is. Especially when it's dark outside. I had nightmares in days after this world . . . Ah, such memories :)

  • 5:50 reminds me it was rainy in Australia with grass.

  • 3:10 geez this music sounds demonic!

  • *SNIFF* I miss these type of games!!!!!!!!!! Rareware was SO the best! WAY better than Microsoft! I want Rare back!

  • Holy ****! I almost died of cardiac arrest at 3:08 :O This song is so scary!

  • 9:16 of donkey kong 64 music?!!??!?! hell yes.

  • My first N64 game...oh how I miss these days of when evil tomatoes and creepy castles scared me out of my wits...as a matter of fact...they still might >.>....<.<....O.O

  • @EddardStark102 Oh god those tomatoes D:

  • @MandLhatemileycyrus Aye! They'd chase you around with those demented grins on their faces!...And of course....there was the iconic "GET OUT!" from a few levels....wow I miss these days...

  • 3:08 - Scary laughs

    3:10 - Dewgong?

    3:12 - Gruntilda??

  • According to the Donkey Kong Wiki, a Donkey Kong 64 DS will (supposedly) be released for DS and 3DS on May 19, 2011 in Europe.

In America, it's supposedly going to be released on June 4, 2011.

In Japan, it's supposedly going to be released on June 22, 2011.

Mega emphasis on all the "supposedly."

  • @Valo778 Too bad pal.....Let's keep waiting :(

  • I hate Microsoft!!! Rare really should be independent again, making awsome games just as they did years ago.

  • instead of freaking me out it actually intrigued me (:

  • Creepy Castle was classic scary horror in a cheesy way, but they pulled it off, and it was actually creepy... that takes talent. Stereotypes can be either awful or powerful. I think the music is what made this level work.

  • I wish 5:54-7:12 would never end.

I wish that games were still an art form and not lazy shoot-em down community brawls.

I wish that I could someday make music or games as well as Rare.

I WISH RARE'S MAGIC WERE STILL AROUND TO GRANT(kirkhope) THESE WISHES!!

    DK64 FTW.

  • @123sporefan about the second wish, I realize that Nintendo still makes amazing games, and many companies are creating games that aren't shooters, so to specify: "I wish games that follow the art form still dominated the gaming media instead of lazy shoot-em down community brawls."

  • I think the moaning in the dungeon is the scariest. It makes you think something's just dying to jump out at you. I never went down there. :{

  • There are a lot of variations missing here; there are at least 13 variations (not including Boss and Main song) more than half of the songs are missing. //Present: 0:00-1:33 Cave, 1:33-3:04 Dungeon, 3:04-4:06 Ballroom, 4:06-5:50 Museum, 5:50-7:12 Crypt Cave, 7:12-9:16 Crypt //Missing: Inside The Tree, Tower, Library (Sounds similar to dungeon except for one part), Barrel Blast, Shed, Garbage Can, Hedge Maze *Favourite Variation*.

  • @TheJeepRider That Crypt Cave sounds so scary! Do you DK64-players know what is there?

  • I love what Grant Kirkhope did during his time at Rare. I'm planning on going into composition, and hope to someday be blessed by making it into either the film or video game industry. Growing up I always thought composing for Rare would be the coolest job, but now... they just don't make games like they use too. It still would be cool, don't get me wrong, but I wish they made more imaginative games like they use to. Either way I greatly look up to Kirkhope and what he has done.

  • The bit at 5:54 always creeps me out incredibly with that horrifying moaning. The evil laughs outside and the insane cackles in the ballroom sound more funny than creepy, but that moaning sends shivers down my spine.

And I really love the insanity of the 3:12 bit. Not just the music in the Ballroom is insane either: they're on a 7x9 tiles chessboard, and the chandelier swings along with the music.

  • This level scared me so badly! Whats with Rare adding stuff like that in there games???

  • You forgot the music that plays in the trash can when you fight the flies!

  • Man, the music in this game was so scary. lol

  • This level defined itself. Except for the boss, that is. Other than that, I get the chills whenever I enter this level.

  • 3:20, in my opinion, is the creepiest part.

Imagine being in a circus and that's all you hear. And performing evil scary tricks are clowns with dark clothes and that Joker-type make up.

  • @Valo778 That'd be totally epic! =D I'd go there! ^_^

  • I remember right when I got this game christmas in 1999, I immediately disliked being in the water.. well atleast then, when I approached King K. Rools ship when it turned dark and it started to rain...

you can guess how I hated it, when I was in the tree in that level....

The level does its name credit, one of the most creepy levels I ever played.. this game is one of the best ever, I wonder why Nintendo degraded DK to a bongo playing, lazy ape and stopped with adventure games...

  • 5:50-7:16 is my favorite part. Sounds very movie like.

  • This legendary, they should put this music into a horror film

  • happy halloween ppl am gonna put them songs for trick or treating

the creepy part starts at 5:54

  • 5:54-7:12

    Zombies?

That theme is creepy, scary, cool and epic. That's the best song i this game.

  • creepy castle used to scare the shit outta me when i was little

  • laughts at 3:20

that is the most scary thing

    ghosts?

  • laughts at 3:20 that is the most scary

    ghosts?

  • The sound of the shackles perfected the atmosphere :3 I love Grant Kirkhope >u<

  • I always thought how scary it would be if you ran into the moaning guy @ really inconvenient times and he ended up chasing you through the crypts...

    DK64 and Rare FTW XDD

  • The music for this game was a MASTERPIECE

  • The screaming people just freaks me out...partly because I hear Gruntilda more than once :O oh and the little girl isn't helping. AT ALL. :O

  • 0:00 - 0:19 ....so pretty :')

  • rare music scared the crap out of me when i was 6

  • @nboy121 me too

  • what is it about the waltz at 3:07 that makes it so scary?

  • @pikminlover72 I say it's the laughter.

  • The rattling of the chains is gonna be haunting my dreams tonight. No 3D movie can make it seem like you're actually in the story more than Rare's music did. Rare's incredible music really pulled you into those environments, and just made the experience all the more magical.

  • @Geno4ssb500 Amen.

  • @Geno4ssb500 Grant Kirkhope's truly amazing :)

  • I never realised how creepy and scary these themes really where

  • God, did they scare me out of my mind in this game ;P Especially in the Creepy Castle dungeons (I outright refused to go there), but also in the Fungi Forest at night.

This game was truly great ;P Too bad I never beat it...

  • i fucking hated the castle boss, I could never beat him

  • I never noticed how creepy these songs were untill now... whats with the chains... I hear it again! ...ah! I don't like the chains... oh crap no... not the laughing!! this would be a pretty catchy song without the annoying creepy laughs... thats better, much more calm. ..... oh shi... AAAH! THE MOANING. NOOOOO.....Ok, the maonings over. *whew!*

  • Perfect Dark at 6:52 - 7:12 hehe

    Thumbs up for Grant Kirkhope!

  • 4:08 sounds sad

5:53 i find that track more scarier/disturbing than giygas from earthbound and i always had nightmares when i was beating kremlings in the catacombs lol

  • @kimflodin the moaning is creepy

  • We can hear chains.. that mean that the moan is torture/Starve

  • @linkrock123

taht is seriously fuck up man

  • @r1verqueen

    It is

  • @linkrock123 probably both

  • I still would rather play Resident Evil before I go to bed, than play this

  • Creepiest game ever!!!

  • 3:05, its just getting good!

  • in your opinion, which music do you guys think is better..

Banjo Tooie 64 or DonkeyKong 64 or Tchaikovsky

  • @TheDylanJoyce

    wtf is tchaikovsky?

    and i think...

donkey kong wins by a hair

  • @TheDylanJoyce

Comparing apples and oranges are we?

As for me I love all three of them. Tchaikovski is a legend at classical music just as Grant Kirkhope is at video game music.

  • Not gonna lie, when I first walked into the crypts with the music at 5:53, and again with the catacombs theme at 7:14, I froze in fear. It's amazing what awesome video game music can do.

  • i tried the creepy castle music then my sister cried for no reason... hahahahahaha

  • 3:06 - 4:07

is the scariest for me, mostly because I had a night mare about that place when I was 5.

  • 5:53-7:13 is the scariest version.

  • wow, this music has a aweful resemblance to mad monster mansion

oh yeah, i can hear BK and it makes me feel happy, its missing the laughter of the ghost behind. LOL

  • We'll this is the same team that made Banjo kazooie

  • Yaaaaay waltz!

  • Who was caught by surprise with the laugh?

    LET'S DANCE UNTIL YOU DIE~!

  • 5:54-7:12

The music in "The Crypt" is nightmare fuel. The moaning doesn't help either. He sounds like he's being tortured really slow.

  • Hey, you forgot the one where you go inside the tree outside the castle (DK shoots the high-up targets to change the water level?) Thats a great variation!!

  • Lol I found out what a ghost was after i beat this level

  • oh god! I remember everything right now:D Like de ja vu,,,i remember where to go and how the leves look like and alllllll!!!

  • 3:05 - 4:05 the creepiest minute ever! First time i heard it I thought my game was messed up...

  • Actually me too, just the maniacal voices laughing & screaming, that part would just creep the living-daylights out of me, in fact I would rather play Resident Evil or F.E.A.R. before I go to bed than this level

  • good songs for halloween the ones that creep me out is the last two songs

    at 5:52

  • This sort of makes me think of a creepy old Frankenstein style German or Dracula-style romanian castle

  • When I reached these dungeons, I thought, am i playing the right game? lol but it was fun!

  • rare also knew how to make fitting themes

  • rare sure knew how to scare little kids...

  • @brickblockbro123 Unintentionaly that is

  • obviosly who ever rated this game didnt get to this level before rating it E it would be somthing like 7+ if they did

  • Plus I'm pretty sure they didn't have the things like 7+ when this game first came it out. It was just E, T, and M. (Though I think there was also AO but that's a whole other story)XD

  • There was a K-A

  • Donkey Kong 64, such a classic N64 game, I remember when I was little I thought this game was awesome I always thought some parts of the creepy castle were a lot like the depictions of the frankenstein lab

  • Do ya have the museum? It is a different part os it not?

  • honestly i think banjo was darker cause for one your always in a scary place. If you quit the game your sister gets turned into a monster and there were scarier bad guys in the haunted mansion in BK than creepy castle in DK64. the music for DK64 is scarier though

  • these are the sounds that scared the living shit out of me when i was little ~_~

  • after hearing this music, its safe for me to say that donkey kong 64 is more darker than banjo kazooie series

  • I don't think either one was really dark, just expressive, in that they depicted the environments very well. Because, on the other side, you have bright and cheery Fungi Forest and Jungle Japes from DK64 and jolly Mumbo's Mountain and heartwarming Freezeazy Peak along with cheery Click Clock Wood from BK. The "dark" levels actually reminded me a lot of Scooby Doo.

  • Night Fungi forest falled under dark too

    Not so much

  • I think the music from creepy castle was a re edited version of the mad monster mansion songs, since banjo kazooie was pressed for time, some things were left out or not finished (stop n swop, a couple levels, maybe some music) so maybe rare just took what was left of bk and put it on dk, since in a lot of ways the games are VERY similar.

  • Im not entirely sure but I think DK64 came out first

  • No, Banjo Kazooie came out a year before DK 64!!

  • @mikenike90 bk came first

  • Both made by rare simple as that. but its pissing me of how every one wont shut up about BK

  • Yeah I'm getting pretty tired of all the "Dis sounds liak sum musik frum banjo kazoie" comments myself.

  • favorite theme is the basement theme ( 5:54)

  • Often the Catcombs is mentioned for its cool eerieness, but what often people forget is how weirdly cool the music in the basement of Creepy Castle, outside of the Catacombs is. I think those two, and the ballroom song, are among the best tunes from DK64.

  • Is this an actual-part of the game or is it a fan-made remix? Just Curious!!!

  • It's a medley of the other versions of the Creepy Castle theme. As you ought to know, in their N64 platformers Rare almost always had a main theme for a level, that would change depending on the specifics of whatever sub-area you were in.

  • This is the real thing! I effin love this game but SOOOOO much collecting! I get bored after about an hour of playing.

  • the beggining is a less scary remix of the dungeon

  • the part from 6:00 is most scaring isn't it....

  • This. Is. Awesome. 8D

  • music at 6:02 is definately the wierdest

  • @5:53

This music scares me. That moaning is just disturbing.

  • 0:16 theres a sword noise

  • chain

  • wow... donkey kong has sure scary music... i remember i once went in the ballroom and i heard the gosts and zombies ( this was when i was like 5) and i was so scared i ran out of the room and i had nighmeares for like 5 days lol and at 3:08 ... this IS rated e right? man rare probly scares like 78 peaple a day lol.

  • I've played DKC1-3 completely, and I once rented this game too... BUT... Never got that far. And now hearing the music at age 19, I REALLY want to go back and play this in depth. I love Banjo-Kazooie, and I love RARE. I wish games were still like these!

  • Is it just me or is there an annoying buzz in the background starting around 4:10? I've tried my headphones and speakers so I'm wondering.

  • I hear it, too. Maybe the quality wasn't so good right then? XD

  • In my opinion, Donkey Kong 64 had to be the scariest game with the scariest music. From 3:08 - 4:05... that was some creepy shit, hearing all them monsters.

  • Scariest game? May I recommend Silent Hill 2 or 3? Or any of the Fatal Frame? Doom 3? FEAR? Or do you just mean scariest Nintendo 64, E-rated game?

  • No, Shadowtails, Nintendo 64, E-rated game

  • No, this game was far more terrifying.

  • i still have nigthmares u.u

  • Do you think it's as scary as those games, just curious!!!

  • I think this game was far creepier than any of the M-rated games mentioned above!!!

  • The Crypt has the scariest music, and it gets worse when you get deeper into it.

  • 6:04 scary

  • Nice music! Great for Halloween parties. Oooooooh! >:D

  • Wow, I never thought of using it like that lol!

  • there u go! Play this at ur next haunted house!

  • First few notes are also in Mad Monster Mansion.

  • ironically Rare made DK 64 and Banjo-Kazooie

  • starting at 3:08 it just 2 scared me alot

and besides it reminds me of mad monster mansion

if i walk in a haunted house hearing the laughs i wouldve got so frightened

  • Everyone's having fun at 3:08!

  • thats the theme for the ballroom

  • thanks for uploading man. I've been looking for version at the beginning. such a blessing and i still can play this now after 10 years this game has been released.

  • what is that song called by the way at 5:54

  • Its in the area where the giant skull head is that DK, Lanky and Diddy go into i think

  • the song at 5:54 is so tight when i first entered that room when i was eight i almost turned the game off. It was dark at the time and i was by myself. lol

  • Niiice... These themes were always bone-chilling, but fun to listen to. I love the occasional drop of water in a song, don't you?

  • Thank you for putting this up! You do not know how impossible it is to find the ballroom song.

  • This song sounds scary
