Restore your windows files using scannow

You sir are a blessing. Thank you. When I did the scannow in command prompt, it shows there are corrupt files. I also ran the CCleaner and it does great things. How do you reinstall drivers for a V.M. Broadband2go modem?? I have to find the place to download the drivers. I am presently on a wifi connection in a hotel until I find a new place to live in the next month or so. GOD BLESS YOU!!

Hi. I ran the RUN ...sfc /purgecache and then sfc /scannow. The little black box comes up for a second and then disappears. Why? What happened? I also ran the scan in Command Prompt as Administrator. Waiting for results now. Any suggestions? If it comes up that there are corrupt files, CBS.log or something like that, what should I do? Waiting to speak to Microsoft, but they have been unable to fix stuff. No offense to them, but I have more faith in you and your knowledge. Thanks.

@Americanjazzlady Once the purgecache is ran it will run in a blink of an eye next time because it is clean, the same with scannow, if there are no broken files it will run very fast, it only gives a report on errors.

what if you don't have the windows cd? how do restore the files then?

You can borrow a cd from a friend, it is legal to do that. I would put up a download for the files but it is like 580mb of data.

movie maker is trying to tell you that it can not read the file you are importing, you are most likely missing a codec for it

It could, if a system file needed for wmm is causing your crash, the event viewer video will tell you why wmm is faulting.

that will take you to some links where you can download the SP3 and burn it to a disk.

Usually it will tell you that message when another application has finished installing but may require that you restart your computer for it to take affect, until it does that you can not run another install program.

So Try restarting your pc.

This is designed and created for XP, you might have to do some searching on google for a Vista fix.

I have not done this yet but if it asks for a CD, I don't think I have one. My PC is only a year old but I am certain I never seen a cd

for it. I don't think the new PC's come with one. Would I be doing the same thing if I go to system tools and select disk cleanup? I have IE 7.

As far as the purge cache part it will basically do the same thing for you but the scannow utility will ask you for a cd.

Some of the new pc's do come with a utility that will allow you to create a restore cd which would work for you but I have not used that feature yet, as soon as I do I will be making a video for it.

Thats your command prompt window, It opens when you use the purge cache command, When it is done purging then it closes, But it tells you about that in the video.

it should still work with the home cd, I'm not sure if it works for the home edition. Stupid windows...

Try it now, and see if any files have been changed. Run it once in awhile if you notice your pc slowing down or doing weird stuff.

There is a way to make a restore cd using your computer but I'm not sure how that is done, You could try visiting the manufactures website, they might be able to tell you how. Or try pointing the search to a I386 folder on your drive.

It should still work with the cd you have.

There should be a feature that came presinstalled on your system that allows you to create a restore cd, I'm not exactly sure how but I know it's avaialbe.

Try pointing it to:

C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386

Or do a search for the I386 folder on your drive or if it is a dell or something of that nature you should have restore files on the spare partition (Usually D:\)

Keep searching till it finds what it wants.
