Can't believe how many of those games I was at! The volley against Ipswich, the drag-back and shot home to Watford and the fantastic winner in the 3-2 at Wigan stand out! Deano - Alex legend!
i can't help but still watch this at least once a month and still be amazed at just how skilled and gifted he was!! and it pains me to see the dire state of the England squad and to think about just how much better we wud av been with him in it.Rooney doesn't have jack shit on Deano and never will!
ashton is without a doubt the greatest footballer to come out of coca cola league into premiership, as soon as we lost him in 2005 we lost virtually every game that season
I've always had a liking for Crewe and i still believe that the partnership ASHTON-HULSE was the best Crewe ever had. Two wonderful strikers and Deano will be sadly missed.
legend i was at so many of these games, that sunderland away game was immense, fink that was day we stayed up :D......and look at the attendances we got then, onli get bout 3000 now :( but ur a legend deano, and gutted bout ur retirement, come bk 2 us, wud make our team on crutches lmao ur legend !!!
it upsets me of what could have been for the poor lad for west ham england he would be a good partnership for rooney in the WC and for the developing Cole at w.h
Really sad news. A great player who could have become one of the best English strikers of his generation.
Not only a clinical finisher, he also had fantastic technique, touch and ability to bring others into the game as well as having a great physical presence.
The finest product of Crewe Alexandra's academy.

Such a shame. He would have surely partnered Rooney in the World cup this year without that disgraceful injury of 4 years ago.

...A super guy, fantastic player who DID become one of the best, not could of, as I keep hearing.
Fulfilled all of the promise he showed as a 16 year old, only that now his career was cut short, the talent remains.
Truly fantastic player, who will be missed. Best of luck to you Dean.
