Who is this, seriously, though? Is it one of those Maynard Ferguson coked out disco trips? Sounds good, frankly. Obviously not for use in the movie, but it still sounds good on it's own!
@Tigerblade2002 I have no idea who is singing...that one got by me...I'm getting close to coughing up dust, but I've heard a lot of redeaux on material...during the disco era, nothing was sacred or safe...
This song surely fits the time period when TOS was taking place. But there is noway you could use this for a movie. This is TV music. Funny though. hah
Wow. I just re-experienced the thrill of being 16 years old again and seeing this for the first time. (Thrills are fewer and further between at 47.) I remember I saw the movie 9 times in its first run.
@rdbittle Yes, I agree. The ONLY song that Meco did, that I really enjoyed and still listen to occasionally is the one for the original Star Wars themes (the one that's about 16 minutes long). That one never gets old, even though it's "disco"... :)
@Duppydog yes which caused mr. Courage to leave Star Trek because Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics over his music and took half of the music Royalties on the theme
This would make for a nice prank to pull on unsuspecting torrent grabbers. Make an AVI of ST:TMP that is normal up until this point, and replace the end credit music with this. Surprise!

I'll admit I never saw this film. Every Star Trek film I've seen has been from "Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn". But I can honestly say that just from watching this clip... It is the first time I can truely say that a squeal or squeal's has been better then the first relaese. Gene Roddenbery must be turning over in his photon torpedo over this.
If your referring to the quality of the film, ala speed and pacing, ST I was actually the only ST film that Gene was actively involved with. After the film tanked, he was kicked upstaris with a "ceremonial" title of Executive Consultant, and the ST series was handed over to Harve Bennent, who along with Nick Myer, resurrected the series. (I am a big fan of Myer, sorry!)
If you mean the music, lol, it is interestesting. Remember, Gene did write lyrics to the original ST TV show theme as well!!
I knew that Shaun Cassidy had recorded a lyrical version of Star Beyond Time but I had never heard it before until now. Not too bad. Could you post just that here on Youtube sometime? That would be cool.
Technically even the theme for The Original Series actually had lyrics writtten for it (Gene Roddenberry wrote them) even though they were never sang. Gene Roddenberry did this so he would get money every time it was played (in addition to the composer) -- Roddenberry was a crooked individual who sought to make money in any way he could think of...
Oh well, we can forgive him, at least more good people were involved and the franchise is in good hands. Beside everyone's doing it (unfortunately). Lucas does that with all the "digitally remastered" etc etc
Wow. I had no idea that anyone had ever written lyrics for that theme, let alone recorded them... that's crazy. The disco version of the main titles is terrifyingly campy and wildly inappropriate to the tone of the film... much more in line with Buck Rogers-type schlock.
The disco version sounds so Meco! That would've locked the movie to 1979. I'm sure Goldsmith just made that for fun, but it's horrible.
sebulia1 2 months ago
@sebulia1 The disco version was performed by Bob James. As far as I can tell, Jerry Goldsmith was not involved with it.
