  • The disco version sounds so Meco! That would've locked the movie to 1979. I'm sure Goldsmith just made that for fun, but it's horrible.

  • @sebulia1 The disco version was performed by Bob James. As far as I can tell, Jerry Goldsmith was not involved with it.

  • The best jump to warp!!

  • Who is this, seriously, though? Is it one of those Maynard Ferguson coked out disco trips? Sounds good, frankly. Obviously not for use in the movie, but it still sounds good on it's own!

  • @burr1aj It's Bob James...seriously.

  • @Tigerblade2002 I have no idea who is singing...that one got by me...I'm getting close to coughing up dust, but I've heard a lot of redeaux on material...during the disco era, nothing was sacred or safe...

  • Who did the singing? Sounds alot like Spandau Ballet.

  • @sewdavicious Shaun Cassidy, actually.

  • I never knew there was a disco version

  • @Teletran35 There are several disco versions of this theme

  • This movie can't get better music! The music in it is awesomemly sensational!

  • This is so wrong.

  • The human adventure is just beginning! That's so true! :D

  • Funky pop startrek theme of the 70, 80's...

  • This song surely fits the time period when TOS was taking place. But there is noway you could use this for a movie. This is TV music. Funny though. hah

  • whats the name of the song at the end ?

  • um, I think the Russian's gotta hold of this one

  • NOOOOOOOO!!!! hahahaha This made my night!

  • I feel the same about disco as I do about herpes.

  • @spectre0075 That makes two of us...

    Disco Trek!

    X'D

  • OMG! I couldn't stop laughing! Where did you get this disco version? X'D

  • WHAT? THE ? F*** ???? My god I hope this is a joke, worst disco track ever raping one of the best movie themes

  • It must be disco night at "Spock Casa". (See the G4 "Star Trek 2.0" commercials here on You Tube if you don't get the reference.)

  • Not bad-definitely sounds 70-ish but I'm glad they used the original but a nice tune to rock your head too. Sounds like Neil Norman or meco.

  • In parts it sounds like Price is Right Music...U won a new Buick!!!!

  • this also reminds me of the Funky Chimes Funding credits from Sesame Street

  • uh, was I just trek rolled?

  • Star Trek: The Price is Right.

  • @spectre0075 You just made my day. :)

  • I am so glad this didn't make the final cut! We don't need any more reminders that this movie was made in the late '70s!

  • The Human Adventure is Just Beginning.......TO GET DOWN!!!!!!!

  • Sounds like the theme to a funky 70's Star Trek TV Show! Nice!

  • What more could disco sacrifice for it's own means?

  • Wow -- never heard the Shaun Cassidy song before. I always thought it was a vocal to the main theme, not Ilia's theme. Wild!

  • This sounds like what "Star Trek: Dallas" would sound like.

  • @CorporalChris WAY TOO FUNNY!!!

  • Wow. I just re-experienced the thrill of being 16 years old again and seeing this for the first time. (Thrills are fewer and further between at 47.) I remember I saw the movie 9 times in its first run.

    Thanks!

  • 0:05 - Captain Kirk was such a flake in this movie.

  • These are the adventures of the Starship Enterprise to go beyond disco feeling no man has experienced so far...

  • Is that the whole track from the Shaun Cassidy promo or is it edited short for this?

  • 1 of the best scenes ever to end a movie

  • The Human Adventure is just beginning.....

  • Epic!

  • where can i get an actually track of the Shaun Cassidy song??

  • Now that was not what I expected.

  • yeah Baby!

  • I lol'd.

  • Disco Star Trek is OK, but disco Star Wars ("Meco") is better. :)

  • @ken1w - Yeah, but Meco didn't do as well with his Star Trek disco, don't you think?

  • @rdbittle Yes, I agree. The ONLY song that Meco did, that I really enjoyed and still listen to occasionally is the one for the original Star Wars themes (the one that's about 16 minutes long). That one never gets old, even though it's "disco"... :)

  • Wow ... "A Star Beyond Time" is truly, truly, memorably awful :-) Can't imagine why it wasn't a smash hit!

  • Sounds like the Price is Right theme.

  • AWESOME!! Just like the music from "A 5th of Beethoven"!!!

  • wow that was a shock Ive never heard this before! Sounds so retro love it haha Agreeing with the Buck Rogers comments lol

  • Sorry, but this reminds me of Buck Rogers from 70's. Thank God good orchestations replaced disco in movies.

  • This is horrible - Disco. Did you not like the original Jerry Goldsmith music?

  • Wow, i never would have believed that this theme had lyrics.

  • @Duppydog yes which caused mr. Courage to leave Star Trek because Gene Roddenberry wrote lyrics over his music and took half of the music Royalties on the theme

  • Wow, this is pretty good, I actually could see them using this in the real movie. It was the 70's after all. :P

  • fun fact:

Star trek the motion picture was the first movie to feature the credits at the end of the film instead of the beginning

  • I thought it was Star Wars. But, if you say so, I believe you.

  • this was before Star Wars I believe. only a couple of years

  • scratch that. Star Wars was 1977 and Star Trek was 1979, so you're right. My bad.

  • Star Wars was... not Star Trek. Think about it, Star Wars came in 1977, this came in 1979. You are most illogical sir.

  • yeah but the original series before the first trek movie came in 1963 to 1966 so trek was first

  • First MOVIE with end credits. No one is talking about TV shows. 0_o

  • The original Star Trek series first aired beginning in 1966 and ended in 1969.

  • They should have used this!

  • i could see this being used in Robot Chicken somewhere.

  • Thats a typical 1970s theme like the jazzy funny Star Wars theme that was cloned form the original score.

    lol

  • Disco Trek? Haha

  • I was thinking the same thing lol

  • This would make for a nice prank to pull on unsuspecting torrent grabbers. Make an AVI of ST:TMP that is normal up until this point, and replace the end credit music with this. Surprise!

  • lol

  • or have it normal at the beginning and it get sillier and sillier

  • haha, nice remix :D

  • wow...a little 70's twist there at the beginning of the song.

    Me likey :)

  • There should be a law prohibiting anyone besides Goldsmith himself from arranging this theme.

  • You knreally know the first song during the credits kills the mood from the end of the movie.

  • All that means is there should have been a movie whose mood fit that song. :D

  • Star Trek Night Fever!

  • I'd boogie to this!

  • That is Shaun Cassidy's version of A Star Beyond Time. I have the record. And "I Think I Love You" was recorded by his brother DAVID.

  • This is great. I'd love to see this music meshed up with the TNG opening.

  • If your referring to the quality of the film, ala speed and pacing, ST I was actually the only ST film that Gene was actively involved with. After the film tanked, he was kicked upstaris with a "ceremonial" title of Executive Consultant, and the ST series was handed over to Harve Bennent, who along with Nick Myer, resurrected the series. (I am a big fan of Myer, sorry!)

If you mean the music, lol, it is interestesting. Remember, Gene did write lyrics to the original ST TV show theme as well!!

  • I thought it was awesome.

  • Oddly, this fits with the ridiculous uniforms that they had in The Motion Picture...

  • Please post the Shaun Cassidy version. I'm dying to hear it. :(

  • I'm pretty sure that this is Shaun Cassidy.

  • I thought it was longer. Was that the whole song?

  • Good question. I couldn't say. But as I try to channel "I Think I Love You," it definitely sounds like him.

  • it's only 2.30 mins or something so it's short, but I think it's an edit over the credits. I just bought the japanese 7"

  • Thanks for the info :)

  • Although everything leading up to the credits is just fantastic....Jerry Goldsmith is a legend.

  • WOW, this is pure crap. IS this real. I hope Jerry DIDNT write this shit. BAD as BAD DISCO!!!!

  • no he didn't, never fear. it's just a joke.

  • @UFOSPACE1999 only a total klingon would say that i hope u get berid up to yr neck in sand and get nibbled to death by tribbles lol

  • I knew that Shaun Cassidy had recorded a lyrical version of Star Beyond Time but I had never heard it before until now. Not too bad. Could you post just that here on Youtube sometime? That would be cool.

  • This is better than the disco Star Wars theme.

  • lol, soooooo cheesy.

  • This is complete win. Feels like the end credits to a late 60's/early 70's daytime TV show. Awesome.

  • I laughed so hard! The switch of the music when the end titles appear is just great!

  • Technically even the theme for The Original Series actually had lyrics writtten for it (Gene Roddenberry wrote them) even though they were never sang. Gene Roddenberry did this so he would get money every time it was played (in addition to the composer) -- Roddenberry was a crooked individual who sought to make money in any way he could think of...

  • Oh well, we can forgive him, at least more good people were involved and the franchise is in good hands. Beside everyone's doing it (unfortunately). Lucas does that with all the "digitally remastered" etc etc

  • It would of been hilarious if this was actually used when the movie was released! :) Its totally throwing the tone of the movie away

  • Wow. I had no idea that anyone had ever written lyrics for that theme, let alone recorded them... that's crazy. The disco version of the main titles is terrifyingly campy and wildly inappropriate to the tone of the film... much more in line with Buck Rogers-type schlock.

  • Well...the music does sound 1970's. but it sounds more like Buck Rogers than Star Trek.

  • Also sounds like "CHiPs" later seasons theme.

  • I have been waiting years to hear this version of Star Beyond Time.

  • Me, too. To nsbwastaken: can you upload the entire "Star Beyond Time" to your YouTube, so I can download it via WM Recorder? Thanks.

  • I second that motion. Pleasepleaseplease?

  • That's interesting how they gave the second theme lyrics.

  • Oh, my! Disco fever in the 23rd century!

  • The 70s are coming back every century

  • What record was this disco rendition from?

  • Bob James did the recording of the theme.

Shaun Cassidy is singing "A Star Beyond Time".

  • @nsbwastaken -- Odd, it doesn't sound like Casidy.

  • nice

  • lol good video love it

  • ...the lights come up in the theater and a disco ball drops down...
